Most Irritating Thing About The Jw's
by integ infor me it is the smugness.
it's their inability and refusal to admit they are wrong....ever...even in the face of irrefutable evidence.
isn't pride a sin?

Talks @ the Ministry School

it has been so long since i was at a kingdom ministry school meeting, that i don't remember.
some one i. know is about to give the #3 talk.

The only reason you would have a #3 talk this week is if you have the CO visit this week. They postpone the Oral Review until next week and do next weeks talks this week if you have the CO visit.

WATCHTOWER HOAXES on the spectrum of mendacity
by Terry inthe word hoax is thought to be derived from the magician's utterance of silly "hocus-pocus" so-called magic incantation.. this is jibberish, of course--a fake latin-sounding phrase mimmicking the priest's words in catholic mass changing wine into the "actual" blood of christ.. yeah.. only a conscious attempt to deceive separates a hoax from an otherwise mistake or urban myth.. according to folklorist jan brunvand, a 'hoax tends to indicate "relatively complex and large-scale fabrications" and includes deceptions that go beyond the merely playful and "cause material loss or harm to the victim".brunvand, jan h. (1998).

In their defense, it is still debated today whether or not aluminum causes cancer. Women are encouraged not to use aluminum cookware when breast feeding. I think the WTS accidentally had some truth to some of their aluminum claims even though they were somewhat out there. All the other quotes, though, show how messed up their minds really were.
"Germs don't cause disease, vibrations do!" lol That's some crazy vibrations.

the irony of letter read at meeting this week and CO visit
by nowwhat? inthe number 3 talk was about organized religion and the householder was lamenting how her church is always asking for money.
then lo and behold we get a letter read from the branch about more donations!!
then the visiting co give his his talk on how we should be encouraging our bible studies to share the truth with others.

This sounds exactly like my meeting last night with our CO. Talk about deja' vu. This is my first CO visit since learning TTATT. I have never been so bored in my life. I used to sit on the edge of my seat dissecting his teaching style, lines of reasoning, etc to see how I could imitate him and become a better teacher and speaker. This time, I sat in the back of my seat with a blank stare on my face thinking "This guy is full of it." (That's being polite.)

The new bible did NOT remove the previously [bracked inserted words], it only removed the brackets, so it's even more deceptive..
by EndofMysteries inmany said how they removed the bracketed words, etc.
here is an example, an older bible in exodus 18:16 would say this....."i must make known the decisions of the [true] god and his laws.".
the word "true" is not in the original manuscripts, it's inserted, hence the [ ].

As explained at the AGM, it's supposed to be an idea translation because word for word would be too confusing.
For example, if we tell someone from a different region we are shooting the breeze, they may think we are taking a gun and shooting at thin air when in reality we are just having a relaxed conversation with friends. All languages have their idioms and phrases that say one thing but mean another, or mean something totally different in another part of the world.
So the Society is trying to translate the thoughts and not the words. Unfortunately, this gives them even more room to make changes because everybody and their momma can argue what was meant by certain words 2,000 years ago and no one can prove anything since the original writers are no longer here.MrMustard's explanation is more scriptural, though.

For those who are still IN and attending meetings, do you still study the WT & other books?
by ohnightdivine infor those of you who are still attending meetings due to various reasons, how do you prepare yourself for each program?.
do you still read and study the wt?.
do you still read and study the okm, jeremiah, etc?.
-

I never started studying. I only did it when my parents would force me to. When I got married, my wife and I never studied together. She'd do her lesson by herself. On the rare occasion we would study, I wouldn't underline. An elder invited us over to their house to study a Wt one time. We went and participated, but I didn't underline anything.
Now I just take my tablet and Bible to all the meetings and sometimes highlight the answers during the lesson. That makes the meetings seem to go a lot faster.

Did having kids make your decision to leave easier or harder?
by Comatose ini was thinking about a few things confusedandalone said the other day.
i mirrored his thinking identically.
for me it was having kids that made my decision to leave an easier one.. if i had no children, i might still be in and just going through the motions.

This is the exact reason that I haven't had kids. The reason I give to JWs why I don't want kids is that I don't want them growing up in this system of things. The real reason I haven't had kids is I don't want them growing up the JW org. If I had kids, that might make it easier to leave. They might inspire some courage into me.
But for now, I'm a push-over and a coward that finds solace with nightly meditation, study, and alcohol. (The alcohol isn't nightly, but it does make me feel better. I'm won't let myself develop a dependency, but I will not deprive myself either). I feel that my cowardice was instilled in me by growing up as a JW. I'm slowly working up the courage and have already expressed some of my concerns with my wife, although I haven't told her everything yet. As I continue to work up the courage and pending the outcome of my "coming out" of the JW religion, I may decide to have kids. I'm 28 now, and hope to complete my transformation before my 30th birthday. I plan to attend the Christmas party at work this year.
