i am looking for some songs that are in ref to celebrating leaving, seeing the light, realizing what you were told wasnt right, being happy w your life, etc etc.

all those emotions about being controlled and repressed, being told what you can feel or think or how to live, blindly following the "brotherhood ".

Demons

this isn't a joke and i don't post here often but i had a conversation with my grandma i found comical and thought i'd share.

my uncle lives far away and my grandma wants to go visit him but says she is afraid of the demons in his rental home.

she is afraid a demon might follow her home.

I remember when I was active how I believed all these demon stories. One lady in our hall said she kept waking up to shadows on her wall resembling someone holding a butcher knife and said it was demons. I've got friends and family that have their own personal demon stories. Looking back on it, all the people I've known to have these kinds of stories weren't in a good frame of mind at the time. I think demons are no more than mental illness for which a person hasn't been properly diagnosed. I'm glad I no longer believe in such stories.

Haha. Good read. This reminds me of me when I gave talks. I was a major procrastinator, so I had to make up almost all of my talks. I'd usually find one article that loosely fit my talk (if it wasn't already provided), take a few quotes, and make up the rest with something that sounded good. And the brothers and sisters loved it. I felt bad at first because I knew I wasn't giving Jehovah my best, but then rationalized, "Well, everyone loves it and says they were upbuilt, so it must be okay." Sometimes I'd feel a hint of guilt knowing I didn't have any scriptural basis for what I said, but I made sure it always sounded like something a JW would say. That right there should have woke me up sooner than I did. The only talks I actually prepared for were my public talks on Sundays. I was already nervous enough going out of town to see people I didn't know. I was sure as hell going to know what I was going to say.

Where are the Young Elders?

i was appointed as an elder when i turned 30, 25 years ago.

which was the norm back then.. now, i very rarely here of a young man becoming an elder.

in our town we have 2 english congregations.

As I started my doubting, there was an elder in my hall, early 30s, that got appointed. But I've been told numerous times by various elders that there is a strong need for younger brothers to step up because elder bodies are getting older and not able to do as much as they once were, in the congregation and at the regional levels. They need brothers to step up and help take care of these responsibilities.

So, for me, it was never "What can we do to help?" It was always "What can we do to help you help us?" I've only had one elder make a true attempt to help, but he was one of the rare and the few. I think of him as one of the good elders, who really thinks he's on the right track and is trying to make a positive impact on others. But when you only have one of those types mixed in with eight others who don't care (or only give a token effort), his efforts can't go far.

Or go to the loo with your electronic device and do what you want. I've always found it humorous sitting there listening to the sounds coming out of these people. As long as you're not next to someone with explosive diarrhea, you'll be okay. I've even gotten in quite a few naps in there. Just make sure you go right after the cleaning department goes through.

this is such a shame.

i've always thought about things like this happening because of how crazy some people are, especially in regards to religion.

This is such a shame. I've always thought about things like this happening because of how crazy some people are, especially in regards to religion. I could easily see how this could happen in a JW Hall with the mental anguish and turmoil from shunning and strained family relations, especially when the person already has a mental illness.

I realize that this is most likely a racially motivated hate crime, so it's a little different than the above scenario. Anyways, my heart goes out to the families that have lost. They went to church to find peace and security in their God, but he did not protect them. Sadly, the families will be turning to God for comfort thinking this must have been part of God's will to get a few more angels.

I stopped giving talks when I started feeling like a hypocrite. Funny thing is, after missing a number of my talks and 6 months of regular meetings, they still haven't gotten the clue and removed me from the TMS. I still get picture texts of my talk slips to my cellphone, including one just last week.

I had breakfast with 50+ JWs on Sunday

we pulled into a hotel parking lot saturday around 6pm on the return leg of a wonderful family vacation to new england - an then fate stepped in---a man in a suit got out of a car with the rest of a picture perfect family.

i immediately noticed all the name tags--- and my blood pressure spiked 50pts- damn!!

i was booked in a 4 story hotel full of jws-- the only time they took off the name tags was in the swimming pool- they were so proud of themselves.. at 6:30 am the hot water went cold in the wife's shower- what do you expect on the 4th floor when a herd of jws is trying to get ready at the same time?

Kudos. A mighty fine witness you gave there, especially with you being able to keep your cool. Now they're going to be wondering how a mentally diseased apostate can make so much sense. How much else has the Watchtower been wrong about?

Resurrection - cell phone edition

i have an oldish phone - a samsung galaxy s3.

i don't feel the need for anything faster or better because i don't use it a ton.

i hardly ever call anyone or have anyone call me and it's mostly used for emergency remote access to the forum, to play the odd game and to text the kids to let them know i'm picking them up or they want to be picked up from somewhere (maybe i should sign up as an uber driver?

I've had a good experience with Cyanogenmod too. I used it to turn an old smartphone into a fancy mp3 player, basically my own android iPod touch. Things do run so much better when you have the power to declutter all the crap and install just what you need. The guys at XDA do an awesome job documenting what you need to do for your specific phone.
