All depression sufferers (past/present) please read

i went to my dr. today because my blood pressure was really high.

156/106 and my meds weren't helping to lower it.

can you get over depression without meds?

I have bipolar as well and am on a couple medications to help manage it. I take Wellbutrin and Depakote(mood stabilizer).

These do help- but certainly are not an instant fix or cure-all. I've visited with my doctor recently and was telling him that

while I've felt worse, I've also felt better. He promptly responded by writing me a prescription for Klonopin AND Xanax!!!

The last thing I need is more drugs...... I held onto the scripts but am going to hold off on filling them for now.

The previous suggestions about taking care of yourself(everything encompassing that) are good ones.

I would only resort to medication if you cannot improve despite your best efforts to the contrary. If you feel suicidal-don't wait.

SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!!! All it takes is one strong suicidal impulse at the right(wrong?) moment and......... I know from experience on that one as well.......

the older i get the more i believe that being single is the way to go.there are so many advantages.just to name a few;.

you can finish that college degree, go to the neighborhood bar anytime, do charity work, join a night class, stay out all night, flirt with anybody you please.

i've shared a bit about my experiences but i don't think i ever gone into much detail.

i'm setting this down as an example of what growing up a witness can be like for any lurkers who have doubts or questions.

i was born into a family of witnesses.

My step-mother was similary abusive. My father did nothing to stop it and occasionally took his turn at beating me up.

Both were also verbally, mentally, and emotionally abusive.

This continued until I got big enough to fight back. You have fought back by getting away from the people who were hurting you and trying to get on with your life. Give yourself a big pat on the back for that.

Do You Struggle With Depression???

i know more persons that are depressed than i know that are not.

whether a person was a witness or not, so many are affected with depression.

i've read here that many jw's were on either regular medication or silently accepted their depression with much prayer and tears.

Clinical depression and the various types of bipolar depression are very treatable medical illnesses, it is a matter of taking medication and getting the proper counseling

Yes- but neither is a cure-all. Bi-polar in particular can be hell for the victim and their friends/family. Medication(for me)helps, but I still have to fight hard to keep it together. Every day, all day. There are definitely days when I really understand why my mother commited suicide after 33 + years of suffering from this condition. It ruins people lives.
