Very interesting read. I relate so much!
I think I may have been there at that Norco assembly and got baptized the same day as you.
I know it was in 1990 but I'm not sure if it was Jan or Feb of 90'. I was 13 going on 14 and I remember there being no more than ten "baptismal candidates".
Did you know the Alonzo family? Manual Alonzo is the one who dunked me that day.
I made that same trip as you, walking down the isles to check out the pool. LOL That is too funny.

My Story - Part 2
by Jeremy C inlike many jw children, i was deeply influenced and motivated by watchtower society artwork depicting the new system of things.
i was profoundly influenced by artwork (particularly in the book: you can live forever in paradise on earth) that portrayed children petting tigers, playing with lion cubs, running through grassy fields with kites, and enjoying care-free lives.
what i now realized about myself is that for a jw to desire such things; and to go through the motions - performing organizationally-programmed activity in order to receive this reward; does not necessarily require a love for god or christ that is any deeper than other religionists.

by John Doe ini've been accused of being such.

Embarassed at school for being a Witness - Did this happen to you?
by Witness 007 inwhen they played the national anthem everyone stood up...except afew of us witness kids who stood out like a saw thumb....a brother two rows ahead of me had a teacher physically drag him to his feet as he struggled to explain himself...i would sweat like a pig as others pointed and laught and told me off...from then on i would hide in the toilet till i heard the anthem finish then come out.. then theirs birthday holidays, sex education, religious studies which i wanted to do since i would be a star but i was banned by my family.. do you have an embarassing hide like a rat in the toilet moment..

I never wanted to stand out so I always participated in everything. I stood for the pledge of allegiance and recited it too. LOL
In elementary school I made all the holiday arts and crafts. If the holiday gifts were not too pagan looking I'd take them home and give them to my mom. All the other arts n crafts I throw in the garbage can on the way home from school. I love my brother, he never once told on me. He is a loyal brother to this day!
I didn't have any witness kids around till High School. There was one girl in JR High who was a witness. I didn't know until the eighth grade she was a witness. We never had classes together and she went to a KH out of my area.
One day I saw a WT and Awake in her folder and I thought oh Crap! I'm going to be busted now. LOL I wasn't really friends with her and barely said a few words to her in JR High. But I was kind of stressed about going to High School.
I was worried, how was I going to explain celebrating holidays one minute and being banned from it over night. LOL And an even scarier thought . . .
What if I am called out? I knew I'd be going to HS the next year with witness kids from my local KH.
Thankfully I was a wallflower and nobody ever found out. LOL I was pretty invisible it seems. -

An Interesting YouTube debate I had with a JW
by B_Deserter inso most of you have probably seen my youtube video what you should know about jehovah's witnesses, which can be found here.
naturally, this draws quite a negative response from the jw community, but this particular person decided to send me a personal message.. you wanna talk smack about witnesses or anyone in general you better have your facts straight.
everything you said is taken almost enitrly out of context to our true practices.

My brother-in-law was deleted as ministerial servant b/c he didn't meet national average for field service hours.
What a total lie that dubs do not have to report field service hours in order to hold privileges. -

"Even if it isn't true" - how many of you heard this one recently?
by hamsterbait ini remember first hearing it after the generation change of 95.. a sister answered up at the wt and said "even if armageddon isn't coming, its still the best way to live.".
i have heard others say: "even if it isn't true, it's still the best way of life.".
my mother said it a few weeks ago!

It is hard to believe that I actually said that before and probably more than once.
I've certainly come a long way over the past five years. -

Be honest. Would having more money make you happier?
by nicolaou init's not that simple of course but i would certainly appreciate the freedom and time that cash in the bank would give me.
.
how about you?.

They say "money doesn't buy happiness" but I'd sure like to give it a try.
