anyone else remember those talks about being materialistic?
i can remember when the brother would go on about owning the latest gadgets, new cars, boats and bigger houses.
it seems they always precluded their remarks with, "these things aren't wrong in themselves...." and then would go on to make a big deal about how unspiritual it would be to own these things.
I think the whole materialism line is joke. The GB want you to spend time on their interests not your own. As for God, I have a little saying about this topic. " Our God is materially rich beyond measure. If He willed, every human who had ever lived could be given a different galaxy!

my mother sent me a letter the other day asking me to go to the assembly with them next weekend.
everytime they talk to me now the conversation always seems to be the same.

There is no easy way around this problem. This is a lose/ lose situation. The ground rules have been laid out by some very evil, heartless, wicked men who could care less how what they do hurts you or your family. it is a continuous circle of meetings, field service, assemblies, studying and no real enjoyment of life.
the teenagers don't want to be at the boring meetings and assemblies and preaching in the hot sun.
the brothers are tired of saying the same thing on the platform and sisters are burned out trying to work, take care of home and kids and spiritual matters and being a perfect stepfordwife.
After being out for the last five months I could never see myself putting up with any of that crap ever again! And I can't believe I let myself be pushed around by those androgynous, whimpy, limp dicks called Elders! They can kiss my Dopah! (Polish) Maverick

Dear african: This topic brings to the surface a lot of pain for most of us. The elders are the 'front men' in the J-dud organization. Coming in and going out, you have to get pass them. They guard the doors. And a good number of them are jerks. Seems the Society attracts two kinds of people who wish to be Elders, conscientious, caring men and small, petty, ego-starved men. The caring ones get worked until they, burn out or back off because of the ulgier side of the J-dud world. Or they get 'hardened'. The other type flourish. Their system of indoctrination weeds out the first group by changing them or rendering them powerless. And to get out of the J-dud world the second group will try to hurt you because you take away their power and position. Maverick
many years ago people seemed more polite to woman, by tipping their hats or holding a door open to let them in.
even in busses, men gave their places if a woman was standing.
does a person look stupid if he is too polite today compared to years ago?.
Holding the door, or opening the car door is how I see myself. Letting people ahead in line or the " please, thank you, yes sir or may I" is how I was raised. I have no control over how others react to my courteous acts toward them. But "to thine own self be true". When we let others change our core behavior we become unhappy with ourselves and this may lead to mild depression. I believe this is why so many are unhappy at the Hall, they don't like themselves.
Being courteous does not mean being a doormat or a whimp. Even with the Duds, I am nice to them, (except the dirtbag PO) and when they act out back, then I stand up to them. Maverick
i have always loved perfumes and oils and i have quite a collection that i use as the mood strikes...but i am getting low on many of them and it is time to think about making that birthday gift list sooooooo... what do you wear and what do you like and why?.
my all-time innocent favorite is muguet des bois(lily of the valley)--reminds me of my youth and a cousin who gave it to me as a gift who is passed now.... but i also love the scent of lilac, usually in an oil.. my favorite perfumes are: obsession, rare rubies(avon), coty wild musk, revlon's fire and ice, white shoulders, sand and sable, ck's truth, (and also mesmerize, odyssey, foxfire, jasmine, raining violets, honeysuckle, lemon velvet, hawaiian white ginger--all old classic avon you can only find at flea markets or once a year in the book.).
but i need something new....i like the oriental/spicy blends, but not for all the time.

Interesting stuff folks! I did some work for the PO in my Hall. Big, tall, goofy guy my ex called Elmer Fudd behind his back. My baby girl was friends with his grand-daughter. This young lady told my little girl that the PO was not too impressed with my work and thought I was over rated. He trash talked me to his whole family. I did a nice job for this guy and gave him a big discount and he asked for free extras. He really pushed his being the PO. I did all the work he asked and made sure he and his wife were happy before I finished. So I was shocked to hear he didn't think I did a good job for him. I work for Baseball players and WCW wrestlers and NFL players and performers. I could not imagine what he didn't like. So I pulled him aside after the next meeting and asked him if he was happy with my work. He said yes, very happy. I asked if he was sure because I hear he did not like what I did for him. He started to squirm, ring his hands and sweat. He assured me he was very happy and had said nothing bad about anything I did. I knew he was liying. I ignored his reply and stated that if he was unhappy with anything he should be a stand up guy and just come to me and tell me. He said he would, but that there was no problem. I walked away and never listened to another word this worm ever said. I have been causing this guy trouble ever since. And I am not done yet. Maverick

Great post RF. When I read this I could not help but wonder, why didn't they consider that the whole year for a day premise might be wrong? They used a unit of measure to establish an event, question the event but never the unit they measured it against. They took in into the paranormal where no human could verify its legitimacy. And today the WatchTower does that as a matter of policy. Even incorporating JW Conventions as proof of fulfulled Bible prophesy. Maverick

Thanks, I doubt the Governing Body feels the same way about us now. I had an Elder, who knew the members at Bethel, tell me they are great guys and would give their lives for us. I told him I wish they would. He did not find that funny. I wonder why? Maverick
