That CO is an insensitive jerk! Most of the ones I met over the years were, too! The only unforgivable sin is claiming to speak for God and putting yourself ahead of Jesus as God's mediator....Which the WatchTower's own Governing Body has done. Maverick

Introduction
by Hope_ful ini have been "lurking" (my apologies to anyone who is irritated or offended by that) for some time now.
i was raised as a jw - i had the dubious honor of being a presiding overseer's daughter.
my little bro and i were perfect little dubs (or is it "duds" ?!

Do elders feel trapped once appointed?
by JH inwhen you become an elder, it's for life.
that's scary, because who wants all that responsibility?.
do you think that brothers with lots of responsibilities envy those that don't have any?.

I saw a lot of good men get burned out slaving for the J-dud Masters. I too, had a lot of work to do. They give the more able bodied Brothers the harder, more demanding jobs. The rule being, if you want something done, give it to a busy person. Many meetings I double-dipped. And I was the back-up book study conductor, watchtower reader, and had a public talk outline in my bag if need be. When my wife ran amuck, I asked to step down, they told me not to. I turned in a letter of resignation, they would not sent it off. I had to screw some worldly lady and tell them to get them to let me go. I didn't think of just walking away. Too brain dead still. And, after that, I could go to the meetings and not get harrassed into doing things because I was on reproof. It was blissful. For a while. I started to reflect on all the BS they are spewing, and slowly woke up! What a mess! Maverick

Breaking Up is Hard to Do...
by joe_from_kokomo inmy wife and i just left the wts after some 6 years of involvement (5 1/2 as baptized jws).
it has been a painful experience, i must tell you, but also one that has been filled with great joy and relief, too.
the agony and the ecstasy, you could say.

Watchtower = Pharisees
by drwtsn32 inthe wts always talks about how wrong it was for the pharisees to make an endless number of rules.
but the wts is guilty of the same thing.
you can't have a beard... you can't watch rated r movies... you must report your field service activity... you cannot go to costume parties... you can have some blood fractions but not whole blood... you can't read any stuff that is against our opinion... yadda yadda yadda.. my mom (an active jw) argues that theses are not rules but only guidelines.

Err... What happened here? This thread started out fine with a legitimate question and quickly digressed. The behavior of the Elders and their Masters is very much like that of the Pharisees. If you have read Crisis of Conscience you will see how much the Governing Body relies on past written material from their publications. The Bible may be their original source, but it gets farther and farther pushed into the background. They build on the precedents set out in the WatchTower and go from there. Maverick

"...maybe I shouldn't have left"
by GirlOnFence inafter leaving the org... and confronting problems (in the real world), did you ever feel like... maybe this is a sign i shouldn't have left?.
i felt like this a couple weeks ago after finding out the guy i lost my virginity to (an other ex-dub), had a girlfriend the whole time we were together.
the thought of the org.

Remember that early on in your indoctrination with the Duds they implant an exit phobia that tells you that if you ever leave all manner of bad things will happen to you, it is Gods punishment and in the end God will kill you! They install this carefully and this bulls--t will reek havco with your getting out. Do some exit counselling as was suggested. Maverick

Is It Still A Man's World?
by Guest 77 inwhat, no anointed sisters on the gb?.
ok, i just used that question to get the ladies responses.. this week's news coverage had to do with a annika sorensen, a professional female golfer competing in a men's golf tournament.
according to the no spin zone o'reilly show, the majority of the people gave a thumbs down for a woman to compete in a man's tournament.
