ok....we all had them...perhaps we were one of them....stereotypical witnesses.
there were many stereotypes that proved to be in congregation after congregation.
what stereotypical witnesses do you remember.
Brother(s) Trekocratic...
These guys are usually pretty nerdy. The slacks don't quite fit right, the pant legs are too high revealing...yep, white socks.
They are witnesses, but in reality they are Star Trek/Star Wars fanatics. That is their true religion..
They speak in hushed tones about the latest Trek/Wars movies coming out..careful not to "reccomend" them officially because after all, they may be pg-13.
They snuck out late at night to see the R rated Matrix.
The Star Trek technical manual is carefully hidden in their bookbags to kill time during those long return visits...
They secretly believe that the new system will contain Ewoks.

well guys, i've been part of this discussion group for about two weeks and i must say it's been really fun!
i always look forward to reading everyone's thoughts on so many different topics.. i grew up in the troof, so needless to say it was a major part of my life.
my whole childhood was engulfed in meetings, field service, book study, bible study, watchtower study.
I always wanted to be in a "Biblical times" drama. Mostly so I could have a Sword and a Beard. The twin forbidden fruits...
Huxley
made ya look!!!
seriously tho....i came across this little nugget and wanted to get some views.
so i swiped bridget's thread title.
"Yes, I'll have the #3 combo....extra catsup, and uh....hold the hippie lettuce."

any book that you like.. i am particularly interested in reading some good non-fiction.. crisis of conscience tops my recommendations, i think it is one of the best books i've ever read.
but you don't have to recommend apostate books.. currently i am enjoying dale carnegie's how to win friends and influence people.
i am enjoying it and trying to take the advice to heart - namely, don't be so negative!.
"Up In The Old Hotel" - Joseph Mitchell
"Moon Palace" - Paul Auster
"Our band could be your life" (scenes from the American Indie Underground 1981-1991) - Azerrad
Fun

I heard it from an unreliable source (my imagination) that rather than books, they are going to release some collectable dolls.
Paul and Barnabus... pull the string on their back and watch them bicker!
also being released, the "Lot and his daughters" action figure playset.

one thing that is commonly brought up is how the society has made so many mistakes and uttered so many false prophecies.
i just wonder what would happen if the watchtower ever came out and asked forgiveness for their sins and asked to start a clean slate.
(you know, like the pope did a couple of years ago).
To all congregations:
Sorry for screwing up your lives. You are all free to go.
Warm Christian greetings

i have been "lurking" (my apologies to anyone who is irritated or offended by that) for some time now.
i was raised as a jw - i had the dubious honor of being a presiding overseer's daughter.
my little bro and i were perfect little dubs (or is it "duds" ?!
WELCOME!
Nice to hear your story. This board is a really nice place to be.
I lurked for a few weeks as well, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that not everyone who has a beef with the witnesses is a bitter, hate-filled monster. (As a lot of us were raised to believe!)
This board has such a diverse group of people with a multitude of different ideas, attitudes, and opinions.
I think you will really enjoy being here.
