The book Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy released in 1999 was, I believe, the last official word on the status of the King of the North
And what was their pearl of wisdom? "We are wise not to speculate!"
when i left the jw's in 95', talk of the king of the north and peace & security was still big close to the end items.
haven't seen them mentioned much since i've been coming here.
what's the latest from the wts on these 2 subjects?.

just setting the record straight.
there is another thread that notes a claim on wiki that said that ray has died.. he had a stroke yesterday, and is in the hospital.
he is still alive.
My thoughts and prayers are with Ray and Cynthia.
Ray is a legend and his work will go on.
I read both of his books and my eyes were opened.

was there alot of bro's with brown noses??
?.
Oh yes!
Brown nosing indeed. The PO would wear a new suit and pretend to take an interest in the younger dubs.
My house bound grandmother would get a "shepherding visit"
It makes me sick just thinking about it.
were you a fish out of water?.
were you popular in your congregation?.
were you a "marked" person?.
I was treated like I was invisible
this has happened to me on more than one occasion.
a jw suddenly notices you at the hall and asks to work with you.
this continues for a while and then you are dropped.
OnTheWayOut,
Thanks for sharing that experience - wow, that's a lot of time they counted. I've even heard dubs discuss strategies to maximize their hours - proof that saving lives is not the motivating factor for why they preach.

That's shocking and so typical of the JW mindset of "I have to get my time in".

one day, when I was a very weak JW, I went out to do the preaching work with an elder little bit older than me and he was talking to the other guy in the car group, he asked the other guy if he would like to go to the ball game with him, but I was not invited.
I can totally relate to that. In my case, they acted like I was invisible. It was embarassing to hear about their social life and not be able to join in. This was one of the factors that eventually led me out the truth.
It's like, we're good enough to work with but not good enough for anything else.
my parents are in their 80's.. they have been jw's since the late 1950's.. they both have serious misgivings about the way the organisation is going & they feel lost.. however it has been a damned hard struggle over all those years being jw's & raising a family in the 'truth' & they do not feel they can turn their back on it.. what can i say to help them?
.

I know where you're coming from. My grandmother is in her 80s - the "truth" is all she's got and I'm not going to burst her bubble even though she can see that all is not well in the organization.
When you're almost at the end of your life, the last thing you need is a loss of faith and hope, no matter how corrupt the religion is.
Better to leave things as they are unless they are really searching for answers.

This has happened to me on more than one occasion. A JW suddenly notices you at the hall and asks to work with you. This continues for a while and then you are dropped. Reason? They just wanted to get their time in.
I once auxiliary pioneered for a month and took two weeks off work. A brother in my hall who was about my age suddenly took an interest in me and became my pioneer buddy - he would pick me up and drop me off. We'd spend about 2-3 hours out in service. We'd also visit the elderly, housebound sisters and drop the meeting tapes off on the way - easy time.
What really bothered me is that he would talk among his friends out in service about various social gatherings, with me standing there feeling like a lemon, and not once was I ever invited. When I stopped pioneering, he never asked to work with me again.
I've also seen pioneers use Bible studies to get their time in. They would take a study to Bethel and on the way ask him or her questions about the truth to keep their time going.
my whole freaking family is still in.
i am 5th generation and i use to have tons and tons of "friends" that are still in.
when i was little my dad was co substitute for years so we got to travel alot and meet even more jws.
CyberJesus,
Man, I know where you're coming from - been there and am still there - I can't get away from it. I have family who are in who don't know I'm inactive. And I'm constantly reminded of it day and night in an undertone.
Like you, I never fit in the hall and didn't feel like I could mix with "worldlings" - so I was isolated, lonely and depressed - I still am to some degree. This board gives me comfort and the hope that one day I can heal.
Good luck to you
