  I can't believe I'm saying this...

  i hope that saddam uses his hidden wmd's.

  i hope even more that they're used ineffectively and no one gets hurt, contaminated, or killed.

  but i try and imagine this guy facing the loss of it all, his own country and life included, why wouldn't he make the biggest mess he can before departure?

  Supposedly they launched Al Samoud missles. If they still have Scuds, still, or even Al Husseins, they havn't used them. The Al Samoud is illlegal because the diameter of the solid rocket core was beyond their restrictions, giving it greater range. The Iraqis admitted having them, and were in the process of destroying them when the war started.

  Of course the fact that it took 12 years for them to get around is pretty much proof positive Iraq evaded arm's regulations untill the very end. I wanted to make sure that arms inspector's had their chance to work. Howeever if the UN will not honor it's own commitments, because of cheese eating surrender monkeys like the French, it is going to be useless as a means of war arbitration.

  Elders' kids - special treatment?

  it seems to be the opinion of some on this board that elders' kids received special treatment, weren't punished for their wrongdoings, etc.. as the daughter of the po in our small congregation, let me tell you that it was much harder for me than for the kids of those who weren't elders.

  our family was expected to be the "model family for displaly purposes" and we were held up to very high standards so that we didn't "stumble" anyone.

  at times i wished my dad wasn't an elder so that i could have a bit more freedom.

  I was an elder's kid and I knew many. We were the sneakiest people on the planet. It was strange because while there was a degree of special treatment, there was always this feeling that whatever you did would affect your parents. I remember the first GF I had was not a JW and when I was caught (I got much better at the double life thing after that) I had to break up with her. I remember being suicidal after this. My dad, of course, offered me this comfort. "Do you REALIZE they could have removed me from being an elder over this?" I know a lot of elder's sons and daughters have similar experiences. But the special treatment was there, as well.

  For one thing, when the hotel lists came out, at least at our hall, the brother with the list quietly gave it out to the elder famiies first each year. That way we had first shot at the best hotels ahead of time. We usually had our hotel arranged before going to the Thursday meeting and chuckled to ourselves when watching everyone else fly out of the hall trying to avoid being stuck in some no-tell-motel. Another thing was being able to bug your dad about getting the talks you wanted on TMS, or trying to get a better assignment as assisstant. One elder I know always used his two sons to do the prayers. It was like clockwork. Well we were all guilty, really. The congregations are certainly corrupt little villiages.

  Get-together on Saturday night and study the Watchtower!

  do you remember those?

  did anyone actually enjoy doing that?

  some friends would say "hey, we're having a get together" and i would say sure we'll be there, then they'd say "oh, be sure and bring your watchtower!

  A bunch of us would do that. We'd knock off the WT regurgitation study and then watch some movie we'd rented. It was funner then staying at home, anyway.

  i know many of you support it and many others recoil at the thought of this war.

  I would handle Iraq the same way we handle Iran. The Iran NonProliferation act works fairly well for our interests. If I saw actual proof that Iraq is threatening the USA I would present it to congress in an open session. And then I would kick Iraq's ass. But if it wasn't I would probably more concerned about engaging N Korea in a dialogue and making sure I still had a few MX missles ready to turn Pyongyang into pavement.

  Then I would get many many fine looking female interns to work for me. They would take care of my every whim in order to assure my well being. In fact I would collect them from all over the world in order to help my knowledge of cultures. I would free all non violent drug offenders in federal prison and order a CIA hit on Carrot Top. I would tax churches.

  If you really think about it, it seems bizarre that someone would take the time to notice when people post and compare that to most likely meeting times in various time zones. It borders on the obsessive.

  Obesience vs. Worship

  i've been doing some research using the "kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures" - you remember that one with the purple cover?

  it has the greek language on one side and the nwt on the other.. i'm trying to find all of the scriptures where worship or obesience was used.

  of course, i have noticed a very obvious pattern - although the same greek root word is used in all instances - if it applies to jesus it is translated obesience, but anywhere else it is translated worship.. now i've been told all my life that jesus did not allow people to worship him - hence, he couldn't possibly be god.

  Accepted Gig. Sometimes text is an inadequate method of communicating one's thoughts and feelings.

  For the record I wasn't for this war. I marched for peace and signed a petition. So I am sort of a half-assed peace supporter. But now that war is here, I want it won.

  The truth hopefully will come out after all is over, about the Iraqi WMD program. Weather it does or not I don't know, but I hope Iraq can go back to being the sort of progressive place it was before Saddam took over. Pray to god but keep your powder dry.

  Our Friends - Now and Forever!

  as many of you know, i'm a huge fan of thomas jefferson.

  i'm currently reading a book called "the portable jefferson.

  " it has only the briefest of jefferson's biography (a mere 41 pages), with the bulk of its nearly 600 pages devoted to copies of jefferson's speeches, and letters.

  Thomas "If you love somebody, buy them at an auction" Jefferson was a brilliant fellow. Not on par with Alexander Hamilton, maybe, but still part of the culmination of the age of reason. Every time I have to go downstairs to get the laundery, I wish I had one of those dumbwaiter things he invented, in my home. Montecello is still technologically years ahead of my townhouse.

  Our relationship with the Britts has paid off in coin never imagined. Where would be we without MGB's, Benny Hill reruns, Sid Lives t-shirts and the what's left of the English language? If they hadn't burned down the Presidental Mansion, who is to say why might not be referring to it as the "Slighly Brown House"?

  We didn't really help our fish and chip eating brethren much in the Falklands, Aden, or the Suez, but WW1 and WW2 was money, blood, and time well spent. Now at a moments notice we can have Labour party leaders forsake plank and public opinion to follow us in blind devotion on our neofascist crusade to cocacolonize the universe.

  i saw a fight break out on the platform between an elder and a unbelieving husband who accused the elder of f---ing his wife.

  he then threw the lectern on the floor and pushed the elder.

  it was cool.......

  The odd fist fight at the back of the parking lot..

  That happened to me and my brother in law once over some now almost forgotten incident. My then-wife drove in between us finally and I had an elder come to talk to me about love, a little later. Oh fond memories! It was like the Wild West.
