My Bethel experience
by new boy inbecause of the length of this, it will be done in two parts.
part 1. i when to bethel march 21,1970. at the time you had to be a pioneer for two years to apply, by the time i left in 1974 they were calling people in who had never pioneered..........average stay was 5 months ( they had signed up for 4 years)..........the reason they left was......well, it was hell.. one of the reasons was, knorr hated bethelites, but he loved the gilead students and why?
because when they screwed up they were thousands of miles away!........just before i got there, they had kicked out over 60!

Do you Give to Charities or Donate Time?
by OUTLAW ini never knew of any jehovah`s witness to give anything to the community..ever!
!..they don`t mind taking, but they don`t give back.except in the way of manditory tax`s.....i sometimes drop a dollar or two into a donation can.i take clothes, kitchen items, electrical appliances, food or anything else i`m not using and give it to "charity"..i never let anything usefull go to waste.someone in need, gets it!.....not everyone is in a position to do this and thats ok.....for those who are in a position to help those in need:..do you give to charities or donate time?...outlaw

i never donated anything to anyone as a jw. but just this past year i have begun to tithe. not to a church but to various charities...a local food bank...americares....salvation army....the fallen heroes fund...some other local causes, sometimes to local people who have suffered losses or tragedies.

"My Christian Quest", by Ron Frye -----I just finished reading. GOOD!!!
by garybuss ini just finished reading "my christian quest, from jehovah's witness to son of god", by ron frye.
this is easily one of the best new books i've read in a while.

Anybody a member of AAA? Would you recommend it?
by AlmostAtheist ini'm thinking about joining the aaa auto club.
my car is getting along in years and isn't going to get replaced any time soon.
i'm imagining that my stranded-on-the-side-of-the-road moment is imminent.

coincidentally, the first year we had AAA my husband and i both had trouble with our vehicles. i think we had to be towed probably 4-5 times within first few months. so that was great. lately i have been buying discount movie tix through them, saving $2-3 per ticket. being movie fans, our membership fee pays for itself over and over within the year. in the office i go to, depending on time of day and week, service is usually very quick (avoid saturday a.m.) and there is no limit to maps, tourbooks, etc. i keep maps of all adjacent states (and some cities) in each vehicle and in the house. good service, good value.

How Often Do You Come To JWD During A Day, Week or Month??? Hours or Mins?
by minimus ini used to be here a real lot.
now i make about 15 posts , if that,.
per day and read a few other threads that interest me.

in the beginning i was here every waking minute. i think most of my posts were in the first 6 mos. jwd served its purpose for me. there was catharthis...sort of like the psychotherapy i went through some years back. then i realized i had to do things like work...support myself...pay attention to hubby...see family and friends....have a life. so now i come here when i have some time...mostly late at night before bed. instead of compulsively feeling like i have to read EVERYthing like i once did, i am now more selective and only open threads which sound like they have personal interest to me.

sherri, on the view, was a jw
by orbison11 inwatching the view right now.. sherri, a funny woman, who will probably rreplace star in the show, .
well they were talking about pat robertsons prediction, and sherri said she is leary, as she use to belong to a religion, where they went door to door and handed out pamphletss, and said the end was coming in 1995.
(although i think she meant 1975).

rosie was injudicious to begin the whole thing, no matter how right she might have been. donald trump is angry and obviously out to destroy her totally in retaliation. he is just showing his true colors and how ruthless he is.

What MAKES people become JWs----more then anything else?
by new boy inits easy.......................its jws having sex with other jws..................its not people coming in from the field service!
(most people are way to smart for that).
how many people here................ come to this "faith" from the "door to door" work?.

born in. what i can't figure out is why my father became one. i considered him to be a brilliant man. (my mother was converted by my father, so even though she is very smart, the answer to her conversion lies there.) but when i look back at his life i know his early years must have been very difficult...born into a family that was poor, father never held a job....moved from place to place bc they couldn't pay rent.... lived through the depression.... he must have felt no control over his life. the more i think about religion, and the need to "know the truth" and the need "to be right" about things, the more i think it is an effort to gain control over your own personal reality. just a guess.
