School and quitting

what would you say to a teen who hates school and wants to quit?

please be serious and i would like caring replys please.thanks!

When I was a 16 year old I wanted to quit school my mother let me stay home from school. The requirement to stay home was to look for a job. After 2 weeks I went back to school. I still hated it but having to look for work made me realize that school was important. Perhaps night school would be a better option if day school isn't working out.

Getting a good paying job without some sort of education is not fun, or easy.Even most of the trades require a minimum of a high school diploma.

My advice, stay in school, tough it out, it is worth it in the end.

Banjo

i know some of you, especially those of you who were born before the 1970s, will remember the movie deliverance.. this is not about that, but in i have to say, for some reason, i have always been intrigued if not almost in-love with the instrument: the banjo.. one of the worlds most renowned banjo players was originally from northeastern new brunswick, canada: mr. maurice bolyer, from the le republic de madawaska (across the river from aroostook county, maine, usa).. that man, when i heard some of his recordings, i swear he could pop the cap off of a beer bottle, or any bottle for that matter.. i have considered learning how to play the banjo.. i know it has roots in western africa, which to me, makes it all that much more worthwhile to give'r a go.. dunno, but you have to marvel at the intense pickin' that goes on when you hear the banjo.

in the north american picture, the banjo really carried on well into the fabric of 'roots' music here (canada/usa).

Hey Ray, my grandad played both the banjo and the banjo mandolin, it was so great! He played MANY instruments, accordian, guitar, chanter, piano, all self taught, he couldn't read music!

If you wanna play it, go for it, I think it is great!

America: North America - The Difference: BRITS READ UP!

welcome to the continent of north america.. within this continent, which includes also the carribbean islands, and central america, it's not one (1) country, but a collection of different countries.. i have noticed, quite a bit actually, with our friends from across the pond (atlantic ocean), especially those that reside in great britain/united kingdom, yes even the republic of ireland, of their generalities with regards to the term: america.. heaven forbid, i would guess if you lumped all brits in with europe/europeans.

wrong.. my experience has been that, most brits consider anything over this way.....the other side of the atlantic as: america.

thus to other nationalities within north america: that means: the u.s.a.. to a north american: when you say "america" it means: the united states of america.

LittleToe, I totally get that about the Scottish thing, you see I am a Scottish Canadian. When people ask if I come from the UK I remind them that I am Scottish, not English (no dis meant to those English here) but there IS a difference in the two!

As for being CANADIAN, I feel I must add, for those who don't know

1. We don't live in igloos year round, they melt during our very short summer! (At this point we sew our touques together for tents!)

2. While in our summer months we drink beer, lots of beer, gallons and gallons of the finest canadian beer. In the winter it is beersicles, they are almost as good and don't go flat when we put them down for a few minutes

3. And most of all we have to say eh! It is a requirement to live here, if you don't say it enough our Prime Minister throws us out of the country!

Are you a blood donor?

so many of us on this forum have criticised the watchtower society for their obscene blood transfusion/fractions policies.

quite right too.. it begs the question though; what are you doing about blood now that you have a more tolerant and informed perspective?

I would love to donate blood, being type O neg is quite desirable for donations, but alas, I test positive for TB so I cannot give blood at all, though my hubby does.
