I didn't know you were on this site, Vicki! Just wanted to say that I think you are incredibly brave for what you're doing, and I truly admire you.
Just wondering... do you have a legal action fund, or any arrangement for accepting donations?
last week my lawyer appealed the judges decision , based on the fact that we are not sure what will happen with costs.
now that we have appealed, the watchtower also cross appealed with 10 pages of why the "judge erred".
looks like this has openned a whole can of worms.

i remember flicking through my ex girlfriends copy of the "proclaimers" book back last year, and there was a page with the pictures of the gb at the time (roundabout 1992 with henschel, jaracz et al).
apart from noticing that the gb was totally comprised of males (well, with the wt's almost neanderthalitic view of women, you wouldnt expect a female contingent within the gb would you?
), i noticed that they all seemed to be white, and, judging by some of the names, probably american.
Undercover... good point about segregated congregations. Just wanted to point out one thing, hwever. You wrote:
Today, congregations are completely integrated but they were no quicker than the rest of the United States in doing so.
Actually, churches are the most unintegrated institutions in the US. While few--if any--churches practice explicit segregation, in practice blacks and whites almost always attend different churches.

Hey, welcome to the board, AnnOMaly!
tomorrow, august 12
does that make me 30?
a little birthday story....
Happy Birthday, Rosemarie! You are one of the sweetest people I've met. And I'm glad that you weren't named after a storm.
my wife and i were discussing the date of 1975 earlier this week and she basically was of the opinion that the individuals who thought the end was coming in that year came up with the date based on their incorrect assesment of published information.
i replied that would it make sense for thousands of people across the continent to sell their homes and all of their valued possesions if they really had the slightest doubt that armageddon was not coming in 1975. she did'nt have an answer for that retort but still she insisted that somehow these people must have made a mistake in their judgement.
so for those of you who may have lived through the 1975 fiasco and those who have in-depth knowledge about the events that took place in that year maybe you can answer a few questions for me.. how widespread was the belief that 1975 was the year of armageddon?
Jehovah's Witlessness have been right so often in the past
Sorry, that one just made me laugh!

Good stuff, Lisa!
I went to a Good Charlotte concert recently, and was amazed to see preteen kids there. I didn't dare go to a rock concert until I was eighteen years old, and then it was a band that had been around for over twenty years.
Glad you're not raising your girl that way!
admin: hi syn!

i got this e-mail from via my personal ad on jwmatch.com.
if i had known these types of things were the goings on of my brethren to the south, perhaps i would not have been so hasty to depart............ "dear sister, i totally dig your profile.
i felt like i was watching a favorite movie as i was reading on.
LOL Well you sure as hell know how to get attention!
I've had friends that have attended JW singles events. They were completely chaste events, believe me. But if anything untoward occurs at this party, please be sure to inform your local Judicial Committee...
you want fluff, i deliver...... this was in today's newspaper...... the writer is ann landers daughter.
she has her own column called dear prudence.
dear pru,.
Uhm, actually, according to JW standards, maybe he would be cheating on his wife if he was masturbating?
Depends.
Officially, the reason that masturbation is wrong is because it involves sexual fantasizing, which is a violation of Mt 5:28. But if a married person masturbates, and thinks only about their mate, then there is technically nothing wrong with it, by published dubbie standards.
If they fantasize about someone other than their mate, OTOH, then they are committing adultery in their heart.
years ago, if a child did something wrong, he had a good spanking or some kind of harsh physical discipline.
even at the kingdom halls, they still teach this way of discipline.
i found this article on how to discipline your child correctly.
Got them when I was very young. Not many, 'cause I was good kid, but they were my parents' main form of discipline, and so I was constantly under the threat of a spanking if I did anything wrong. My parents didn't believe in counting to three. If I did something wrong, I got spanked. I think that the fear was much worse than the actual spankings, however.
I did get spanked for not sitting still at the meetings (when I was only eighteen months old, I should add). My mom tells a story about when I was two years old. (This is her account of it. I don't remember anything from before I was 4.) Apparently I was throwing food around at the table, so my mom took me into another room and gave me a spanking. (I dunno how many spanks, but definitely more than one.) Then she asked me if I was going to apologize. I said no, and she spanked me again, and said she was going to keep spanking me until I apologized. I eventually gave in, of course.
What's sick is that she tells that story with pride. She also claims that when she brought me back to the table, I was smiling. Stockholm syndrome maybe? That's the only explanation I can think of.
My brother and I were both well-behaved little dubbie boys, and my parents would get complimented on our behavior all the time. And of course, I always had to listen to them explain that the reason we were such good boys was because we had gotten spanked when we were babies and toddlers.
