well, my dad did his "elder" duty and called the elders in whose territory we now live.
two of them came by to see us this past saturday morning.

this is my very first time celebrating christmas, and i am enjoying the season just as much as my children.
what i see is the joy of giving.
i know there are over-crowded malls, harried parents, worried people with not enough money for what they want, or no money at all.

This is my first "baby steps" Xmas. We are still fading so no lights, tree, etc. But...we are doing stockings and gifts for the kids. Was talking to the neighbor about it and she said, "It is like you have been living on a different planet all your life!!!". That really describes how I feel. I am totally "holiday challenged" and dumbing my way through this. Wish I could have a full blown Xmas like I would love to have...maybe next yr. I will be thinking of you and all the others on the board during the holidays. Helps knowing some are in the same boat we are. Happy Holidays!!!
this double life is slowly eating away at me.
i'm planning to fade away and need all the ideas i can get.. it needs to be a fade because my parents, who i care deeply about are heavily into it and my poor hubby is wanting to obtain more privileges in the cong.
me, on the other hand, can't stand going to so many meetings and service and giving parts, etc.. very much appreciate your ideas and support.

I feel for you! I wonder if your hubby is feeling pressure from other dubs when he goes alone. The questioning looks, prying questions, ...etc. I am fading too. My spouse is on the same page as me sort of...he still goes occasionally every couple of months. I can't stomach going. Each time he is literally hijacked by elders asking where we have been. The pressure is tremendous. Fading isn't that easy...especially if you or your family used to be "high profile". Just wondering if maybe his reaction is due to pressure on him??? Still, you have a right to do what is right for you. Noone, not even a spouse, has the right to control what another human being feels and believes. Sorry you are in such a tough spot, Doubtful!

At that point I got a grin on my face from ear to ear without even thinking about it. It all became so clear. I have been so busy since my fade I haven't really thought much about missing it or my feelings. No more rushing to get there to conduct to avoid some other blow hard from doing it for 45 minites to an hour. No more being mad about the car group that you were put in and then feeling bad for feeling mad. Not to mention feeling guilty about not being prepared. No more screaming kids in the back seat that are just plain pissed because they are being meant to do something that is so unholy and unatural that even they can see it so they scream and lurch in protest like they are trying to fight off a demon invading their body. Who the hell came up with this in the first place?

It's so simple
as you associate with jehovah's organization, you will find the atmosphere very different from that of temples and churches.
there is no soliciting of money, no backbiting or quarreling, and no discrimination because of family background or financial standing.
the most outstanding quality among jehovah's witnesses is love.
Since my fade, I have not experienced the vicious backbiting and quarreling that was an everyday fact of life in "the truth". My yrs. as a pioneer were full of constantly listening to nitpicking and gossip. Used to wonder if it was me? Never had that problem at school or work, though. I chalked it up to imperfect human nature for years but got tired of the verbal abuse and seeing the verbal abuse of others. Sheesh...I am SO glad to be away from that!!!!!!!!!

mulan called me yesterday afternoon to tell me her dad had suffered a stroke.
i did talk to my dad last night and he seemed to think that grandpa was going to be ok. i had a birthday party with nine little girls all afternoon and was completely out of touch as a result.. i think she could use a hug, don't you?.

for a while now, when someone asks me why jw's don't celebrate birthdays, i tell them the unadulterated truth.
i say that in the bible, 2 pagans celebrated their birthdays and 2 people got killed, and that's why we don't celebrate birthdays.then if someone asks about why we can celebrate anniverseries, i tell them that nobody got killed for celebrating one, so it's up to our conscience.
if someone asks if we take blood transfusions, i say no, but, we will take (and i name the different components) other portions of the blood.
"Fading" is soon to become an art. How much do you want a bet it's not long before the "farm boys' catch on and start 'pursuing' people who start to fade. Especially those of us with a long 'regal' history. Asking the all reavealing question, "Do you beleive the GB is the faithful........... etc etc."
My 'life partner' has said she is going to just say, 'we have become weak and are doing all we can'. I find it hilarious.

Hi...this is my first time posting...Been lurking and working up my courage to post... Had a Crisis of Conscience this last year and still trying to sort things out. Still have many family members in so it makes things difficult. Trying to do the slow fade so red flags aren't raised. Have you ever seen the "Seinfeld" where Elaine is on a subway that breaks down??? In the dark, she is silently screaming, "Hellllllpppp!!! Somebody Help Me!!!! Get me out of here!!!". That is how I feel at the few meetings I do go to. Anyways...enough about me. Family members give me the mags still and I ran across this little tidbit in the Awake. Holidays are just one of my issues...
