I'm not sure what you're asking. That some people think they are invulnerable?

Reading the Awake is EQUAL TO A 4 YR COLLEGE DEGREE--
by JT inbelow is the basic view of jw towards education and in 30yrs theirs views really have not changed much- a tweak here and a tweak there, but after all is said and done you can still get a 4 yr degree from reading the awake smile
1969 "in view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous .. many young brothers and sisters were offered scholarship or employment that promised fine pay.
however, they turned them down and put spiritual interests first.

I can certainly see why WTS would be very concerned about a college education--especially a liberal arts education. A lot of that education has to do with developing and understanding broader perspectives and thinking critically. I suspect the first sociology course would prove devastating to the wavering JW. Worse than reading the Bible on your own!

Governing Body / who gets in, need answers to be sure ??????
by run dont walk inokay, i want all the help i can get on this one, so fire away with your answers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anything that i say that is wrong, please point it out to me.. the governing body started roughly in 1971, with seven members, and then over the years increased it to 11 members,.
so how many people have served on the governing body from the beginning to now ????

As I understand it, Ray Franz was Fred Franz's nephew, not son. Also, new Governing Board members are selected by the existing Governing Board.

Evil slaving at District Conventions.
by avishai inanyone plan on clowning these fools at their conventions?
i don't necessarily mean shouting, holding placards, etc.
but i do mean putting evidence of their covering up child molesting around.

What helped you see "the truth" wasn't true? Is there anything you could have seen or heard at the convention that would have raised doubts that you would have followed up on?

Structure of the Society
by kgfreeperson incan anyone direct me to a source for understanding how the organization is structured?
how is the president selected, the governing board?
what is the relationship of the congregations to brooklyn.

It took me a while, but I certainly see why WTBTS would have no interest in informing the rank and file, so it probably would take something to spark an interest. Do you think if you had known how the organization worked you would have left earlier or do you think that knowledge would have had no effect on you?

OK. Checked that out. I'm hankering for an organizational chart that lays out the WTBTS hierarchy. I'm also interested in how people get selected for various posts. I am getting the impression that the rank and file have little knowledge or interest in the society except as a sort of amorphous "they." Is this true?

Mankind's Search For God
by rocketman inmany of you no doubt remember when the society released the book mankind's search for god.
i had always figured that, since there were questions printed at the bottom of each page, the book would be studied at the congregation book study.
till this day, it has not been studied, and in fact, besides a couple of placement campaigns, not much was ever really done with that book.

Oh, this is very interesting to me. I was given a copy of Man's Search for God because "I have a lot of other books like that and I might be interested in this" (The books I have? Elaine Pagels, Karen Armstrong, various other sociology of religion books. The book-giver refused my offer to lend him any one of my books!) It explains a lot that he probably never read it.

My daughter wants to convert
by Yerusalyim inmy 13 year old little princess wants to convert..........................to judaism.. .
she asked me today on the way home from her therapist if she had to take the confirmation class next year in the catholic church.
i told her that she didn't have to take it until she was ready to, that it was wholly her decision.

I think it is great you can talk and you aren't reactive. It has to be helpful to her to have your help thinking through what she might want to do without worrying about whether or not she's going to actually do it.
