I read somewhere that Rutherford started the "don't marry, don't have children" pressure because neither his wife nor his son was interested in his cult and it embarrassed him. I have no idea where I read that. I do believe it was Ray Franz who suggested that the ban against marriage was lifted when Knorr wanted to marry.

Are There Things You Didn't Understand About JW's Until AFTER Baptism?
by minimus inone of the things the society prides itself over is that jw's are not only preachers but also teachers.
jw's are told that they have the "best education in the world".
jw's are taught for a number of months before they are allowed to get baptized.

For various reasons, I do not think medical treatment should be forced on people. I know the issue is very difficult when the patient is a child. But part of me feels this is all part of the process of natural selection. And I really do not think medical treatment should be forced on people. And it has nothing to do with the Bible!

Rule by committee
by Euphemism inproplog recently started a thread about the scriptural basis for having a committee lead a congregation, rather than one man.
putting that question aside for a moment, however, i just wanted to talk about the practical realities of organization.. for many, the change from congregation servants to the elder arrangement was welcome.
it avoided the situation of local 'petty dictators' having absolute control over a congregation.. on the other hand, it also had its downsides.

Well, as we have been brutally reminded recently, the corporate system of checks and balances is more easily corruptible than we would like to think! But, I would agree that the lack of accountability for the consequences of their decisions/actions that makes the Watchtower and JWs increasingly dysfunctional.

I WANT REVENGE!!!!!
by worldlygirl inwell, it has finally happened.
my jw husband came home last week and told me he is moving out.
it seems he has been talking to the elders, and they feel his spirituality is being threatened (even though i have not insisted he stop going to meetings, i won't allow any jw material in my home because of my children from a previous marriage - i don't want them exposed to it.

Idiosyncrasies Of Jehovah's Witnesses
by minimus injw's are a peculiar bunch.
certain things are characteristic of the witnesses.
jw's are known for some weird, unconventional things.

Thanks. I guess I can see not wanting "live free or die." I am a bit bemused, however, how having "The Constitution State" on his license plate violated his principles. But, whatever.

Would you call police on the JW's , if door to door was banned ???
by run dont walk incourt: jehovah's witnesses can knock on doors .
canadian press .
montreal the quebec court of appeal upheld a lower-court decision wednesday, striking down a municipal bylaw restricting when jehovah's witnesses can go door-to-door to promote their religion.

After reading all your experiences I would not only not call the police, I will never be rude again to a JW at my door. If I ever see another JW at my door again, that is.

Oh, wait, what's this: They sued the state of Vermont (or was it New Hamphire) over the slogan on their license plate "Live Free or Die." That sounds like a marvelous story--where can I find it?
