I've been reading Maximus's topics, and it is just so frustrating--things that seemed like they would come to something just suddenly stop. So what is your opinion about why the difference between the child abuse reporting policy in GB is so different from that of the US actually hasn't been a "smoking gun?"

Had a good scriptural laugh
by seattleniceguy inwe all need a little help sometimes when it comes to getting by, and i've opened up my house a few times to people in need of a place to stay, for periods ranging from a day or two to a couple weeks.
last year, i put up one such individual, named vincent.
vincent showed up at the kh one evening in march, looking a little rough, cleary not a witness, but able to quote the new world translation with an incredible accuracy.

I find it ominous that knowledge of the Bible continues to be an important criterion for evaluating a presidential candidate.

Franz and Penton
by dothemath in.
would some of you still be in the organization if these two individual's reforms had been adopted?.
ironically..........i think the society is gradually moving in the direction of some of their ideas......... 0ne example..........i recall a tv interview in which james penton (whom i met when he was still a witness) made the argument that blood transfusions should be allowed in an emergency ........and used the example of david and his men eating the "show bread" while on the run from saul........normally totally off-limits but okay in this case.. this thinking was of course condemned by the society........but i wouldn't be surprised if that idea resurfaces some day because of all the back-tracking on this stand, as well as many blood components now being allowed.

What would distinguish Witnesses from any other fundamentalist sect if they adopted the reforms suggested by Franz & Penton?

Every once in a while I try to get a sense of what it would be like to suddenly be invisible to everyone I know let alone everybody I care about. I can't even imagine it. Might as well pack up and move to another country. The courage it must take to do this! Just wanted to let you know how much I admire all of you who take this step.

My, my. This is fascinating. What does it take to get df'd for apostasy or smoking? It almost seems hard to get df'd for adultery! (Perhaps I should change that to difficult?)

MEETING ATTENDANCE SOARS and HALLS ARE FILLED TO CAPACITY! 2004 YB.
by Blueblades in.
2004 yb.page 23.. during the 2003 service year,2,340 kingdom halls were completed around the world.this represents an average of 195 halls per month,or just over 6 per day!since november 1999 when the construction program in lands with limited resources began,7,730 kingdom halls have been built.in many areas, once a hall is finished, meeting attendance soars and halls are soon filled to capacity.. my comment:this is nothing new.from the time of the dedication till the newness wears off this is usually the trend.halls filled to capacity does not indicate new converts.proof of this is when the memorial season comes around the halls usually are filled and then the very next meeting they are not filled to capacity.so,for one night meeting attendance soars then declines just as swiftly the next.. i am told that my hall which usually had a least 100 in attendance now has about 35 on school nights and 60 on sunday.what about your hall does it soar and is it filled to capacity?.

by gumby inah........christianity at it's best!.
http://www.witnessinc.com.. if you go to this site above......you will see this is a site maintained by former jw duane magnani.. on his page of what the "true gospel" is.......and what a"true christian" is.......he plainly states that if you do not believe jesus is god himself.........you have nothing.
he even proves all his points by cherry picking known modern scholars who will back him up!

The part I have never been able to make any sense of is the central "he died for our sins" part. What???
However, when I think about it in terms of "this is the kind of universe we live in and we just have to accept it," then I can begin to understand people's adherance to doctrine. But then I can't understand the proselityzing. Well, I guess I can. You don't want to feel that you might have it wrong and be making all these sacrifices for nothing, so you want to bring others to acceptance of the truth, no matter how awful it is.
If I were a religious person, I think I would do best with the multi-god religions. Or at least any religion that didn't expect me to swallow that God is both all-loving and vengeful and petty as hell.
Be that as it may, Merry Christmas!
(I'm typing on someone else's computer--it is so nice to be able to format!)

Well, I think a lot of people find holidays stressful for lots of reasons. But it is great fun to be able to vicariously participate in your joy as you get into the spirit of the holidays and thoroughly enjoy yourselves! May you all have the Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest of New Year's!
