Notice all the "interested ones" flocking to the table? That's how it is at my school, too. No one ever approaches the table. And they're not allowed to come out from behind that table to accost people!

We survived hurricane Rita; Is everyone else okay? Bryan?
by Frannie Banannie inwe gave up on our internet connection yesterday evening, because we had so many power fluctuations that we were rebooting the router every minute or so.
we've heard an occasional explosion from transformers locally going out, but so far, we've still got power.
we're fine, no real loss of power more than a few minutes, though we're still getting gusts and scattered rain.

I'd heard something about people coming back according to where they lived--here it is:
Texas emergency management officials set the following plan Saturday for the return home of those who evacuated from the Houston, Beaumont and Port Arthur areas:
SUNDAY
Residents west of Interstate 45 and north of Interstate 10, including Tomball, The Woodlands, Waller, Hockley, Katy and Brookshire and surrounding areas.
MONDAY
Residents west of I-45 and south of I-10, including Richmond, Stafford, Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Pearland and surrounding communities. All Houston residents inside Loop 610.
TUESDAY
Residents may return to all remaining areas east of I-45 and north of I-10 up to the Liberty and Chambers county lines. State and local officials are continuing to work on return plans for residents of other areas east of Houston that sustained damage.
I hope you can get your stuff safely settled and yourself back to Houston soon! -

Bryan! I need to go run errands, but I decided to check one more time to see if you'd been able to post. Whew! Are you still in New Orleans? Can you get out?

JV, it is very unlikely that your college doesn't provide it! Start with health services. It probably is covered in your tuition, so you have no excuse! Hie thee to the nurse's office.

WTS Emergency Meeting
by doinmypart inthe disaster relief committee at patterson organized 3 meetings this past memorial day, monday september 5, 2005. the meetings were held in lake charles, louisiana; bossier city, louisiana; and ball, louisiana.
over 1,200 elders were in attendance from louisiana, missouri, arkansas, and texas.
i took horrible notes, but want to share a few things.. the elder opening the meeting emphasized the importance of confidentiality.

I'm sorry, but I know that lots of organizations--some very informal--have arrived at red cross shelters and offered to take evacuees off their hands. The red cross personnel have been delighted. People in these shelters really have nothing to do and the rc has all it can do to keep them clean and fed.
I wonder if they (rc workers) just recognized the elders as JWs and figured the evacuees did not need to be proselytized to on top of everything else.
Assuming of course, that that elder wasn't making it up. -

Report of "Brothers and Sisters" affected by Katrina
by Grace inwe have have all been so affected by the news from the southern us, and even up here in the middle of the canadian prairie i wish i could open my home to so many who need a home right now; however, all i can do (and it's better than nothing) is to whip out my credit card and make a donation to the red cross.. i picked up my jw husband from the kh today (i am disassociated), and he said, "... they had a report that most of the brothers and sisters in new orleans happened to be at an assembly in houston when the tragedy struck ~ so, not to worry, because not too many were affected.
" of course, it didn't cross his mind to help non-jw folks, and, quite obviously, the elders from the platform would never suggest this because it has been made clear how the rank and file should view charity and humanitarian efforts.. didn't jesus say something about love being the distinguishable mark of a christian?
uhmmmm.... and they're shunning us [those who don't agree with them]?.

I've been watching the WWL webfeed and just say a restaging of a family who had evacuated NO but left their mama behind because she didn't want to leave seeing her on tv. This involved (the restaging) a praising of Jehovah. No other thing was said that pointed to the family being JWs, but it seems a good assumption.
(Mama, by the way, was fit to be tied--wanted out of New Orleans and didn't ever want to come back!)
