  This is the essential question that we should all reflect on--deeply and seriously--all our lives. Not just about religion. Another way of asking the question is "what do you accept as authority?" Every time I get upset about someone who is obviously being bone-headed I try to remind myself that I need to reflect on why I accept some other authority than the person I disagree with and unless I can defend my authority with something better than "my gut" I probably ought to sit down and shut up.

  Kidnapped Austrian girl's first interview

  natascha kampusch, who was held in what she described as a hen battery for 8 years, has given her first interview to ausrtrian tv.

  it's quite a story.

  this was on yahoo news.kidnapped girl only thought of escapewednesday september 6, 05:38 pm .

  I heard an interview with her father last night on the BBC--apparently neither her mother nor her father are being allowed to spend any time with her. Her father said this was the decision of the psychiatrists. He, of course, was heartbroken.

  Guess who's coming over Monday night!!

  elders stopped by yesterday they want to come over monday and talk to me.

  i have been df'ed about a year now, they said my dad was wondering why no one was stoppping by to see me.

  it was really hard cause i grew up with these guys and i know they are good guys.

  bill clinton interview on cnn about global poverty issues.

  i love some of the programs he talked about and showed during the interview - and i like the way he recognizes and puts some value on helping people up - i especially liked the program for the rural farmer where he gets 5 cows to start his farm up and after a specific amount of time, he in turn gives 5 of his now growing herd, on to the next guy to start his farm.

  giving people a hand is not giving them a hand out.

  try not to throw up or pee your pants laughing at some of the advice!.

  The real impact of "apostate" sites

  in a recent discussion with a couple of district overseers and other heavies , the topic of the internet and apostate sites came up.

  i asked what impact these were making , numerically , among jws.

  the prevailing view was that , numerically , there was negligible impact.

  I checked the catalog in my local library for COC--said there was a copy, but when I clicked for more information something entirely unrelated appeared. Huh. So then I tried Franz, Raymond and got nothing. I tried Apocolypse Delayed; nothing. BUT, several "works" by JR Rutherford! Those must have been donated, don't you think? I may try donating what I've got.

  KH Builds are a statistical sham!

  well my mother-in-law is spending the night and blabbing about their kh build.

  since i'm drinking whiskey (canadian if you must know), i feel like going on a rant.

  i'm sick of kh builds.

  It sounds to me as if KH builds are the only "bonding" experience now allowable to the average JW.If I were a JW, I'd probably be signing up for all the quick builds but be strangely unavailable for most everything else!

  September KM - 70 alterations in Revelation Climax Book

  i can't find a thread on this subject yet - if there is one , please delete this one.. the september kingdom ministry has a 4 page insert detailing the 70 alterations in the revelation climax book which is due to be studied at the book study shortly.

  i'll provide scans if anyone is interested.. i will leave it up to more experienced analysts to examine the reasons for specific changes , but just a few brief observations for now:.

  p32 box - "they were completely exonerated" changed to "charges against them were dropped" - interesting change of terminology for the 1918 watchtower eight.

  I think you can find dictionary definitions for exonerate that Watchtower apologists could point to defend its use in that context. But I think when most people use/hear the word they think "to prove not guilty." So the original was misleading, the revision is correct. I think the point made above that this kind of thing will be used as an example of how the Watchtower is "leveling" with the congregations is exactly right. Also disheartening.
  
  I don't have anything like the experience most of you do with JWs, but I'm thinking for some people who will not live no matter what, following the structured life of a JW that provides the meaning. They can fit everything else around that structure and feel confident that God approves of how they live. I think many of them have long since given up on many of the teachings although they gladly accept the prejudices that don't much affect them (long hair/beards/boisterous music--let alone biggies like gayness and abortion).

  Dallas Apostafest 2006 Photos Update

  i thought this would be easier.

  the other thread got bogged down by the images, so i have removed the photos.

  this tends to change the clarity a bit, but it is a lot easier to access and the speed is an nice.
