  We gave them our letters of DA

  well, i guess it will be official very soon, the announcement will be read and we will be "lost" into satan's world... my husband gave our letters to the elder who came to visit us with his wife the other day.

  this is the 3rd time they came by in the last month, even after he told them he would call them if we wanted to "talk".

  they saw the christmas tree shining through the door, brightly lit, so there could be no question that we had already taken some steps away.......but he still stayed for an hour trying to convince my husband that it was the "truth".. later that day my parents came over (i wasn't here) and he said my mom just looked at our christmas decorations with jealousy in her eyes.

  How old is your son? You may need to limit his association with grandparents to times only when you will be supervising.

  You'd be amazed at what JWs will do to children behind your back. I don't mean that to be harsh, only realistic. I

  I was shocked to hear of the emotional abuse my children's father inflicted on our kids while they were growing up. The sad thing is, I didn't learn about these abuses until the children were grown. My oldest is 29 years old and still struggling to get his fathers approval....he's still with the Borg.

  The other three have very little to do with their father...very sad. (Their decision)

  I went to see my mom after 4 years, now I am sadder

  last evening i recieved an e-mail from my aunt who is not a jw, and she told me that my mom was taken to the hospital with a serious bowel obstruction.

  my aunt knowing our family sitution felt it would be a good time to see what your mom would do.

  so i called my sister who lives not to far from me.

  Try to keep in mind...."Just because a Person Doesn't Love You The Way You Wish, Doesn't Mean That Person Doesn't Love You"

  You were very brave to visit your mother. You're actions prompted her to take a very difficult step in telling you she loves you. There is hope yet. Don't give up! Please also remember you have a family out here. We love you very much!

  well, my dad did his "elder" duty and called the elders in whose territory we now live.

  two of them came by to see us this past saturday morning.

  It really doesn't matter what you said in your letter. If you disagree about anything, you can be disfellowshipped for apostasy. The final blow for me was when I disagreed with an elder over the Sisters being permitted to wear leg-warmers in the field service!

  Really sorry about your parents though. Hope you don't lose total contact with them; each day is precious.

  The Un-Christmas Gift

  i just received my annual un-christmas gift from my mom.

  it contained 2 dishtowels, an awake!, a watchtower, 2004 daily text, the book "worship the only true god", and a letter.

  the letter was the kicker, in it she directed me to an article she "really appreciated" in the awake!

  I believe this is your mother's awkward way of letting you know she loves you.

  She's afraid to communicate unless there are publications & witnessing involved. The towels are simply a token of your mother's true feelings.

  Perhaps you should lovingly tuck the towels away until the day she can freely love you as her child. I sincerely believe she has you tucked inside of her heart. You have to be a mother to understand.

  You might want to send her a note, thanking her for the gift and most of all, let her know you still love her "no matter what"

  I never actually told an elder off because I had the submission thing deeply rooted. I did however make my opinions known through my husband (now-ex) He was pretty good at letting relaying the messages and through other witness "friends".

  The statement that got me disfellowshipped was my opionion of a particular elder. I told a friend "I won't bow down and worship any man". I imagine that was a blow to his ego.

  Did anything a householder said ever make an impression on you?

  coming at this as a householder rather than an ex-jw, i'd love to hear from any of you about comments from householders that made an impression on you, back when you were active in the door-to-door work.

  since the jw's first knocked at my door 13 years ago, i've done my best to give them something to think about every time they knock at my door.

  i always introduce myself by name and try to get their names.

  The experience that floored me was when a householded screamed "I want nothing to do with Jehovah's Witnesses, my daughter was a JW and she committed suicide." I wondered "Why?" and began to think more critically of my religion.

  I need a good beating for what I did this morning

  this morning i let my emotions run away with me and challenged my 20-year-old son into defending his loyalty to the watchtower shunning doctrine.

  it was not good, im in no way proud of myself.

  im sure he and my dub wife will likely mischaracterize it as an attack on god; anything said against the tower is always an attack on god.

  Let your son know you're worried about him and will always love him no matter what he decides to do.

  You should most certainly visit those boys in the hospital. It will set an example for your son. It will also fill a void for you.

  For anyone professing to be Christian, it is crucial to ask the question "What Would Jesus Do?"

  You are correct, the story of Christ is written in the scriptures. Perhaps you should read them again because I don't see anything about Christ turning his back on someone hurting like Josh.

  I generally only make one comment to any post but felt it necessary to say one more thing.

  Northern Girl, You seem to feel you are righteous in preaching to everyone here on the board. I realize it's very difficult breaking the Old JW Mindset and hope you will listen with an open mind.

  It might be helpful if you read about the life of Jesus Christ. That's what really counts. Show us where Jesus would have rejected someone like Josh who came to him begging for understanding.

  Jesus ended the Mosaic law. He didn't set up another set of rules and regulations for us.

  The only requirement was that we are to love our God with our whole soul and our whole heart and we love our neighbor as ourselves. How difficult can that be to understand?

  His followers did the best they could after his death. The Scriptures were written by these imperfect followers. The Scriptures are a guide; NOT A RULE BOOK.

  Yes, the Bible is beneficial for teaching, reproving, etc BUT we must ALWAYS ask ourselves "What Would Jesus Do?"

  Hello Josh,

  It took a great deal of courage for you to share your story with us.

  I was disfellowshipped about 17 years ago for disagreeing with the elders.

  I recall an elder making a horrible statement during one of our book studies. We were discussing plagues and he said gay people were disgusting and diserved to get Aids. His opinion made me absolutely sick to my stomach. Actually his comment for the very first step to me leaving the Organiztion; it showed so clearly the absolute lack of love this religion had

  Fortunately, I had learned about Jesus Christ as a young child. Jesus wouldn't have said something like that.

  I believe our Father loves you so much! You can't begin to comprehend this love because you've seen so little of it in the religion you were raised with.

  Please don't give up on God. He is about PEOPLE, not Religion. I don't even know you and I feel so much love for you. God's love is so much greater. I hope you won't stop praying. He does answer our prayers but we have learn to listen.
