So they will be under the control of the WTBS. If they don't follow orders after they're baptized, they can be disfellowshipped. (Cut off from friends and family)

I'm thinking of going back
by Smoky inover the weekend my cousin came to visit from mi, and her husband (elder) started to do his shepperding thing with me (have not attended meetings for over 1 year), and made a compeling argument about how the holy spirit is given by god only if you attend meeting and go to field service...etc, etc.
and the whole "faith and works" issue.
it was a different angle that i have never heard before, about me being a "instrument or tool" of god...blah, blah, blah... anyhow, it got me thinking about going back...especially when things are not going to well for me right now... (he said its because i left jehovah).. how can i convince myself that this is not true?

Perhaps you do need to go back. Sometimes, going back will reinforce why you left in the first place. Then you can come out with more confidence.
I can tell you for a certaintly, being a JW will not protect you from unhappiness. I know quite a few unhappy JWs and I worry about their emotional well being.

I think it's like those who hate Howard Stern but can't resist listening to him.

Anyone like me where you still believe in MOST of their doctrines?
by inquirer inlike i don't like that un involvment, record keeping.
i don't know what to think about the paedophile stuff, because you could accuse the catholic church of that too.
but apart from those things i still believe that god's name is jehovah, his son is jesus, no trinity, and he died on a torture stake... i love reading the new world translation, i believe it's the best one, but i love reading other translations too!

I would recommend you read the Gospels, with an emphasis on the book of John. While you're reading, ask youself if Jehovah's Witnesses are in line with Jesus example.
It can take persons many years of reading and research to undo what the WTBS has drilled into their minds over and over. I still believed the New World Translation was a good Bible up until I was out of the Organization for 14 years. No Longer. I still believed they weren't a Cult, No Longer. I still believed they were Christians. No Longer.

What upset you about your past in the org?
by Nicolas inpersonnally, what upset me the most is all the wasted time.
i'm now 21 years old, you'll say that i'm still young but i know someone you were at the same elementary school than me and she's now in university.

I don't have any major regrets. But then, I never allowed them to fully control my life. It eventually got me disfellowshipped when they tried to play "Hard Ball" with me, trying to force me to conform.
Our family never really fit into the cliques. (Which was really a very good thing) My children grew up happy and healthy. They knew their rebellious mom defend them against the Organization and against their JW Father. (and I did many times)

JW young people...on the move...to where?
by Gill inmy experience as a jw teenager was total repression and control from my parents and i know that the majority of my friends at that age in the congregations suffered the same.. now...what's happening?!.
i come home and find a regular full time pioneer smooching with my non jw son on the sofa.. i"m reliably told that jw youngsters are in the local pub after each meeting and have to be thrown out at chuck out time.. they seem to behave in a far worse way that some non bible believing youngsters that i know.. are they finally feeling their feet and the wtbts due a huge exodus in the next few years?.
i'm slightly embarrassed at the behaviour of some of these youngsters when i'm told what they've been seen getting up to.. or am i just getting old?

I decided to have some fun at their expense and told them I was studying and that they had really "stumbled" me
Now don't you think it's a tad unfair to use WTBS Control tactics on these young people?

The 'Thinking'
by GetBusyLiving inbefore i had disassociated myself i went through a period of missing meetings (go figure) and i was lurking around sites like this for quite a while, reading ex-witness books, and doing a lot of reseach into the bible itself.
i got an email from my best friend that was in my hall who was wondering what was up and if i was 'discouraged'.
i told him that i had been reading up on the wtbts and that i had been feeling like shit because i wasn't sure what i was doing with my life, still hanging onto some dream my parents had that was demonstrably messed up.

Chauvanism or Chivalry?
by stillajwexelder inover the years i have become less of male chauvanist pig and much more chivalrous - my wife says she as a woman likes men to be men and hold doors open for her and stand up on an airport shuttle bus etc .
if there are no seats left.
to me the wtbts is very chauvanistic and not very chivalrous.
