i believe they are "cultlike" but i don't think they are a "cult"........and you?
After 15 Years Out, I still didn't belive the JW Organization was a cult. Until I was ready to read about what constitutes a religion as a cult, was I able to accept the truth......The WTBS Really IS a Cult!!
For those who still doubt, I challenge you to read books about what qualifies a religion as a Cult....It will be an "eye-opener"

generally, i never get depressed and am fairly resilient when having to cope with change.
all my life, i suddenly stopped everything last december.
Please be aware when making new friends that you may find yourself thinking like a JW at times. Try to stay upbeat and positive. You don't want to run people away by being judgemental and critical of everything.
I agree with others who suggested to get out and find friends. The first step is always the most difficult. Check your local paper for groups of people who meet to discuss similar interests. Perhaps you and your wife can take dance classes together.
As a footnote: I didn't realize there were so many of us in the 50 age group. I'll be there in July.

this happened this last weekend at the circuit assembly my (jw) wife attended.
She obviously fell in front of the wrong people; I hate to think they're all insensitive.
Perhaps it will make her think about how wonderfully loving the brothers and sisters are.
I hope granny is ok.
has anyone heard of the jw take on the passion of the christ movie?.
just curious if they are negative on it.

Most JWs wouldn't be caught dead in a movie theatre showing that movie. First of all, they don't like the cross because they've been taught that Christ died on a stake. Some Witnesses even believe you'll get demon possessed if you have a cross in your home. They're so hung up on the Cross Issue, they completely miss the point.
I know of a JW who is totally disgusted with her disfellowshipped daughter for seeing the film. She told her daughter that the Jesus in the movie isn't the Jesus acknowledged by Jehovah's Witnesses.

besides the visceral satisfaction of sticking it the man that abused me for so many years - would it help to write a letter of disassociation and send copies to the elders, the society, and maybe a lawyer?.
my reasoning is that as a disfellowshipped person, i am regarded as a sinner - someone who was led astray by weakness and sin.

since leaving the jdubs, i find i enjoy lighting up a pipe in the evening, or sometimes the occasional cigar.
tried cigarettes but i don't care for them much, myself.
Cigarettes are a horrible habit that makes you old before your time. More difficult to give up than drugs.

ok...my sis is a few years younger than me...she was a loyal jw and even took to counseling me for things like watching movies.
then, she began to snap.
after her child was born, she saw that her husband was really, really abusive (he stopped being physical a long time ago, but he wasn't any nicer...he even forbade her from seeing our worldly mom.

Most of us believed you were only disfellowshipped for serious wrongdoing; Was I shocked when I learned why most people were disfellowshipped. Many of these "So-Called" Apostates are very caring, loving and Sensitive people. They snap when they can't take the abuse any longer...They question the motives and/or teaching of the WTBS. In order for them not to get the other robots thinking, they kick them out and shun them.
Let you sister know we really care about her. She is very precious.
