The experience with Jehovah's Witnesses does make some people who are naturally introverts into extroverts... This is not natural for most people. Also, you don't make "instant friends" in the real world... it takes a lot of time for people to buid up sufficient trust, but once that is there, trust me, it will grow and these friends will love you for who you are, not for how many hours you preached or how many books you placed, etc...

Are foreign-language groups at a disadvantage when learning TTATT?
by ILoveTTATT inthe watchtower library cd in spanish only goes back to watchtowers of 1970. this means that, for example, www.ajwrb.org 's info regarding blood can only be confirmed in articles from then onward.
english-speaking jw's can access information on watchtowers going back to 1950. this means that the "worship jesus" article (1954) is not available, the "we officially ban organ transplants" (1967) is not available, etc.. congregations in the u.s. and canada have had witnesses since... well... the beginning.
most kh libraries have very old books; it is relatively easy to find books going back to the very first watchtower!!

I speak Spanish at a "native level". I already volunteered to jwfacts.com... I guess I will start there. I used the word anti-JW because I dislike the word apostate. It just carries such a negative connotation for me. I guess that we are apostates in the "dictionary sense" of the word, but I feel like I am insulting people when I use the word apostate. I don't like thinking of myself like that. Guess I have to work on the vestigial mind control.
Thanks

Here's an example:

English-speaking JW's can access information on Watchtowers going back to 1950. If I am not mistaken, the Kingdom Interlinear is only in English (I have never seen one in Spanish).
Also, for example, the CodexSinaiticus.org website (which would prove to people the fact that YHWH does not appear in the NT), most Wikipedia articles that are important to TTATT, and other resources are not found in Spanish.
So, many things in TTATT are in English and English ONLY!
I think that presentation, accuracy, and verifiability (not allowing for denial) are KEY INGREDIENTS in an anti-JW website! I dabbled for many years in reading these websites, only to exit very quickly when I noticed even the slightest aparent inaccuracy. The JW mind (or at least, my JW mindset) is designed to shut down as soon as they see an inaccuracy, because it confirms in their mind what the WT says about "half-truths" said in anti-JW websites.
Many of the Spanish anti-JW websites are of very poor quality. I have yet to find an equivalent to jwfacts.com or ajwrb.org in Spanish.
Of course, there are some really bad anti-JW websites in English, ones that go a little too overzealous and do not use facts.
Anyone else have an insight on this for other languages?

Why are the moms so attached to religion?
by ILoveTTATT inplease don't take this the wrong way, i would love it for women to comment on this thread because i just can't understand something!!.
here's the pattern i see:.
mostly guys in here.. if the guys are married, their wives usually stay a jw, or it takes 3 times as much time to convince a woman to leave than a man.. if the guys have a jw father, the father is open-minded and can be more easily persuaded to leave.

IQ and Theism
by DJS inrob waugh yahoo!
news .religious people are less intelligent than non-believers, according to a new review of 63 scientific studies stretching back over decades.. .
a team led by miron zuckerman of the university of rochester found a reliable negative relation between intelligence and religiosity in 53 out of 63 studies.

I see the pattern. I think that there is an inverse relationship between IQ and Theism. Higher IQ = less theism. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but I think it is a fair statement for "normal" religions. For cults, it doesn't matter how high your IQ is, once they get you, it's hard to get out!

JGNAT:
Don't shoot the messenger. Saying that women around the world, in general, have less formal education, less job oportunities, and lesser pay than men is just stating a fact. No more of a fact than stating that 1 billion+ people in the world live on less than a dollar a day. Men and women.
I am glad that you are a strong woman who thinks for herself, and I sincerely do appreciate your comments, just like everyone's comments. I just ask you to not hinder the conversation by constantly repeating to everyone that you are the exception to the rule, or that we (men) are over-generalizing. I really need everyone to comment on their thoughts, even though some thoughts and viewpoints may be offensive to others.
Think about the world that JW women, IN GENERAL (¬¬) are in:
1. Men lead the religion
2. Women do the vast majority of the preaching work.
3. Women and men are taught mysogynistic attitudes that come from the Bible. Almost every character in the Bible, with the exception of Jesus perhaps, treats women very poorly. I think one of the worst examples is Judah. Woman is a prostitute? Bring her out for burning. Man pays for prostitute? Gets away with it and becomes one of the ancestors of Jesus!
4. Men are taught to lead the household, that they have the last say in a decision. Women who do not agree with their husbands, or worse, with the elders, are seen as rebellious and a problem. The first-world country and the third-world country JW women are incredibly different in this aspect. In the first-world countries they have a lot more freedom. In most men-dominated third-world countries, JW doctrine gives many a "hall pass" to treat women very poorly.
And this is for women in general, around the world, JW or not: They are more emotional. Not that they are ONLY emotional, but that they are MOSTLY emotional.
Combine an emotional person with little education, and put her in a male-dominated, you-must-be-submissive environment where if she gets out of it loses family and all the "social network" she has had, then you have a perfect mix of situations that make it extremely hard to get a woman out of JW's using strictly doctrinal matters.
THAT BEING SAID,
I have noted that women have to see the dark side of JW's to make it easy to go out. Instead of pointing out doctrinal mistakes, point out injustices (have to be local and easily verifiable), hard-to-follow doctrines that are heartbreaking decisions, such as shunning and the blood issue. Make yourself the best husband/son you can be, constantly remind them of your love.
If there is a disfellowshiped person that is close to the mom/wife/other, and you both know that person, it would be a good idea to calmly ask, "Hey, do you think so-and-so will ever come back?" and then, if a conversation starts, "I don't think he is an evil person... deep down inside... what do you think?"
Just my humble opinions.
Thanks

God has always used one channel, one group of people, to communicate his messages to.
by poopieskoopie inok, since time indefinite jehovah has always used only one channel (his people) to reveal himself and future events to.. are we to totally disregard the dreams given to nebuchenezzer, then king of the world, in the book of daniel???
yes, dreams directly from god himself to a pagan deviate with a weird name.
why were they not given to daniel???

@jgnat, saphy, mahtaw:
I owe you an apology. Like I said at the beginning, "please don't get me wrong"... guess you did...
There's a reason why stereotypes are formed... it's because whatever the stereotype is, there have been many people that have done exactly the same thing as the stereotype. I am not saying that ALL women act the way I am saying, I am just saying that there are sufficient women who have acted in the same way to form a pattern. I am just noticing the pattern, not making a blanket statement.
In my mom's case, in FrazzledUBM's case, sir82, BU2B, and many other's case, what I am saying does make sense.
That being said:
@jgnat: your tips are actually pretty good!
For everyone:
Any ideas as to how to help women, specifically, to come out of JW's? Do Hassan's suggestions work equally well for men and women? Any women here who have successfully convinced other women to come out of JW's? That would be an interesting viewpoint. Perhaps men are doing something wrong, since from what I have read in this board and from personal experience, it is much harder to get a woman to come out of JW's than it is for men.
I wonder if I can get Barbara Anderson to comment on this. I would love her take on this. Was it ever a doctrinal issue? Would you have gone out if you hadn't seen firsthand the situation that led to more and more child abuses?
Thanks to all, and sorry if I offend some. I am honestly just trying to gain understanding on things.
