99.9% of earth's population will be wiped off the planet.

humm...(rubs chin with fingers) last time i checked, having over six billion men, women and children destroyed isn't so good.

This is funny - I was just discussing this last night with my children (14 and 11) who have been raised in "mainstream" religion. They asked a couple of questions about how their ex-stepdad's beliefs compared to ours and I started with the Armageddon theory (everyone but JW's destroyed, birds eat the dead, JW's cast lots for our homes, cars, etc.) I made it as humorous as possible. Here are their responses:

11 year old boy: "That's the dumbest thing I ever heard."

14 year old girl: "Whatever. I'm glad he's gone."

Just a little piece of useless trivia --- in North Carolina where I live, there is actually a law on the books (antiquated) that states if a man and woman go to a hotel, misrepresent themselves and register as husband and wife, then technically they are married and must file for a divorce if they no longer want to be married (which requires a one-year waiting period in this state as well as equitable distribution of assets!!) However, common-law marriage is NOT recognized in the state. So, I guess it depends on where you "do it."

" but in the next paragraph it says that just as the tithing arrangement was not optional for the israelites, meeting attendance is also not optional for christians.

I think this is the most cultish teaching of them all. What would stop the GB from changing the "provision" for five weekly meetings to six or seven.... or 24-hours a day? The same reasoning would apply (especially considering the 5 meeting practice is completely arbitrary and not mentioned at all in the Bible.) What if Jehovah "provided" through the GB, of course, for members to sell their belongings and move to a commune for perpetual worship??????

cosmetic surgery!!!

all these shows lately on telly - like nip/tuck etc.

highlighting cosmetic surgery got me to thinking of about 20 odd years ago as a dub..how prevalent cs was.

i knew two young women (aged about 17 / 18) who had breast reduction operations in the same cong, of course it was very `hush, hush` at the time but considering it was a small country cong - that seems like a rather high ratio of non-necessary surgery to me........any other experiences of this?

I have breast implants and I think my surgeon did a great job! Sub-muscular implants look much more natural than those placed above the muscle (but the pain is terrible for a few days!!!)

I was 15, way too young. I cringe now to think that I could have gotten pregnant and how that would have messed up my life.

My daughter is 14 now and she came home the other day and told me she had a new boyfriend... a Senior in high school! I said, "no you don't." Seriously, I don't mean to stereotype teenaged guys, but when an Senior guy shows interest in my pretty little Freshman daughter, I have to think of the old "he's after one thing" adage. (Geez, I've always been pretty liberal and now I'm thinking like June Cleaver!) It's so hard when you have a child and you try to keep them from making the same mistakes you made. I'm just like a lot of others here on this board - - we KNOW what a big mistake it can be and how much it changes your life.

Now to add a little bit of humor to this serious thread... This is a negative consequence that many teenaged girls don't think about... Once you start "doing it" you can expect a lot less romance from your boyfriend. If your guy has his choice, those evenings you used to spend at the movies or skating or hanging out with friends will now be spent in the cramped back seat of a car.
