It has nothing to do with giving up free will. It is along the lines of "thegentlemen"'s comment.
In my teens I prayed so hard for a JW boyfriend. With competition of 3 - 1 guy in our congeration I was the last in line. (I know a childish prayer.) I didn't think i could live without finding a potential husband. The answer was "No"; whether my subconscience decision or from God.
I can pray all day for a 69' Mustange convertable - which i want so BAD!!! - unless I do as the gentleman said - i will never own one again.
I have prayed for over 11 months for God to help me not give up on my 14 year old son (drugs, OD, rehab etc....) I don't know if it was me screaming for help, crying for help, telling God to screw himself, begging God to take my life to give my son back his or if it was just me letting out my emotions at the time they were taking over. But something worked.
Do i believe I had no free will in the challege of my son? Absolutely not!
I could have given up when 99% of EVERYONE I talked to said to send him to the detention center, send him away to one of those hospitals, send him..... send him.... send him.....
Do I believe in prayer? Yes. It is to a Supreme One? I have no answer.
Maybe he was smart enough to give us enough free will to verbalize our thoughts to someone that doesn't voice their opinion verbally. Maybe he was smart enough to make us think about what we need/want without another imperfect voice saying "what they would do if it was them". Just maybe he was smart enough to give us our OWN free will of our mind.

Yet another simimilar story.
by enlightened ini was told about this site from family members that have all survived/overcome being jw's.
i must admit it is wonderful and so disturbing at the same time, to read all of these stories.
it's amazing what a religion/cult can do to you, first by embracing you then completely consuming you.

These past few weeks, upon stumbling (a JW word) onto this site, I have felt like this huge weight is chipping more and more off my shoulders. If it were not for finding this site I would still still feel like I was alone.
Being alone in the sense of no one to share these feelings with. No one that really understands what JW's do to you, take from you and convince you that without them that you will never be worthy without them.
I love my husband dearly, but he had absolutely no idea how to handle me when I would get into a "JW mood". Now all i have to do is listen and sometimes comment to you guys.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Simon & Ang. -

Since I faded and didn't disassociate myself due to my family it is something to think about. I live pretty far away from them now and have been out over 20 years, so I guess I am not as concerned with it as some may be. But, it could happen. It is pathetic that JW's are so desperate to DF people that they would do this.
They should be spending their time taking care of "their sheep". Even back then the older brothers and sisters were ignored. Once their "usefullness" was used up they were basically put to pasture and overlooked. I remember an older gentleman (like in another post i read) was a grandfather to all of us kids. After he passed away his wife had a really hard time dealing with his death. I would visit her, but basically no one else even gave her the time of day. The had to go in service or study or.... This sister died a lonely woman. I felt so sorry for her. So if any active JW's are ready this - Why Don't You Take Care Of Your Own? Why do you HURT so many that still believe in you?
Anyway - back to the thread. Thank you for all of your responses. I was just a little confused about lurking. I hope God keeps all of you "safe" from any more harm that this "religion" has already caused us.

Married With Children Joke
by Undecided ini was watching married with children for a few minutes before going bowling this morning and it was halloween and they were checking the houses in the neighborhood.
she said this house doesn't believe in trick or treating so we will keep going back and ringing his door bell.
the son said why, she said,"because he is a jehovah's witness and i want him to know how it feels.".
