Hubby went out in service today.
by KariOtt ini can't believe hubby and sis in law actually went out in service today.
when he left this morrning i reminded him to inform those who didn't slam their doors on them that if they join your cult that this will be the last christmas, holiday and birthday they will be allowed to celebrate.
i thought it very inapproiate going out today to knock on doors trying to get converts..

I always like to listen to the accounts report they read at the assemblies to make it sound like they desperately need donations. As they read the figures I could see we had more than enough funds to cover costs. Then they read off how they sent donations to the Worldwid Work and to this and to that, so now we are back in a deficit. and brothers! Don't miss this opportunity to give to Jehovah!
Hey! How about you have assembly costs covered before sending off your donations to the society!

How Being a Witness made you Lose out on Higher Education and Careers
by flipper inhi, folks.
been thinking of this, because of having been raised in the witnesses.
i reflect back on opportunities i would have encountered and seized, had it not been for being controlled by the witness organization being told higher education was not needed.

I got excellent grades all through school without even trying. I also am an excellent athlete, I often outperformed the "elite" athletes in my school during physical education class and all the coaches tried to recruit me. Of course this was forbidden. and I didn't apply myself to my classes because....what was the point? Just graduate early and pioneer! Well that backfired when as soon as I graduated (early) I moved out of my parents house, got involved in heavy drug use and ended up in prison for 4 years. What a protection the organization was for me! I could have went to any college of my choosing and had all that terrible association!

by abiather inthis is the first message from the co:.

one of them is: the attitude that i am always right and others always wrong.

Worst Ever Field Service Experiences
by dozy ingenerally i found most people were pretty apathetic and often surprisingly tolerant , but we've all had some bad ones.
looking back , here were my worst couple of experiences - there probably were others but i've probably long forgotten them or blanked them off.. i was a kid of maybe 13 & it was bitterly cold & pouring with rain.
i was working alone in a middle class street near my school where i knew a lot of my school teachers lived & was scared stiff at every door half the time pretending to press bells , doing the fake knock etc.

My friend and I schemed every Saturday to go out in service together when we were teenagers. We usually did except when the one a$$hole elder conducted. He always split us up. We would write down the address of every abandoned house we came across, and those were our return visits. So after door to door work, one of us would give whoever was driving the address of one of our "return visits", where we would go to the back door and sit on their porch until it was time to go back to the hall. Actually that's a good experience.....sorry

My Story Part One....My mother's wild hair.
by Giordano inmy mother had a wild hair one day and decided to study with the jw's.
so after being a catholic for my first 12 years we were now apostates............ though neither she nor i realized it at the time.. i think what appealed to my mother was that the two sisters she studied with were very 'refined' they were also nicely dressed and very 'clean'.
i had no idea what the hell she was talking about.

Interesting story. Though I thought it was gonna be different. I know of a "sister" who was recently DF'd because the CO told her that her hairstyle was too "worldly" and she needed to change it. She refused. Bye bye.

After thinking about this all evening and this morning. I've come to the conclusion I think I want to go along with her idea. Which would be to just write our DA letters and be done with it. And deal with the aftermath. I'm tired of playing the charade and want to put it behind me. Of course I'll look into legal advice to be prepared for what comes from the job situation. But even if worst comes to worst, we will deal with it and begin the process of putting this cult behind us. I texted my wife to call me on her lunch break so we can discuss it. I'll keep you all posted. thanks for the great advice everyone.
btw...also wanted to mention we're letting our children get involved in school activities that are strongly frowned upon in the hall. My son is in wrestling and football. My daughter is in band. I know how much it hurt me to never be allowed to do the things I loved in school and could not put my children through the same misery I went through.

and the plot thickens.......my boss (the elder) just contacted me to have our family do a service meeting part about youths and school. I told me wife about it and she told me this is why we need to write letters of dissasociation. I'm scared because of how it's going to affect us financially. If it wasn't for that I would have no problem with that. Wow....if someone would have told me this morning that before the day was over my wife would be pressuring me to turn in our DA letters I would have laughed in their face.

adamah.....you're right. Unfortunately there are some circumstances that prevent a clean break. Mainly....I work for an elder and it won't be pretty. In a few years I'll be part owner....if I make it that long and he won't be able to screw me over. but now with what happened today it's got me thinking I need to make a move.
