Eh, that made me laugh. Maybe I have a warped sense of humor though. I would love that to happen to me, just for the story alone. Though I would decline going to meetings "Sorry I just moved and am trying to still set stuff up here" then I would just never go. Excuses are great like that.

Unsuccessful fade aided by Gestapo?
by Fatfreek inmy nephew by previous marriage told me an interesting experience this past weekend.
while he had never been baptized, his sister had been years ago but was trying to fade.
she moved from iowa to kansas but she made the mistake of giving her street address to her mother, still a jw.

Try these lyrics on for size....
"My Own Prison"A court is in session, a verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penance
My skin begins to burn
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I hear a thunder in the distance
See a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally
Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
[Guitar break]
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) We're all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
Should've been dead on a Sunday morning
banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no timeI'm looking for lyrics for Henry Rollins "Fall Guy" but I can't seem to find them anywhere, but check that song out too. That's what I've been feeling like lately.

What is your rating?
by billyboy inas a bit of a newbie , i'm interested as to the overall viewpoint of site users and spectrum of views.. using a crude gauge , where 1 = completely convinced "stepford"jw ("jhs organisation is wonderful etc") and 10 is a completely rabid "tear down the tower" apostate/ex-witness pathalogically hating the whole jw structure , where do you fit in?
(apolgies to both groups - no offense intended).. i'm about 2.5 - somewhat disillusioned , keen for reforms in certain areas but broadly accepts the teachings and loves the lifestyle.
would never leave.

Answer from the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses"
by Lilycurly insome of you might remember my situation....i have daed myself a while ago, and my father is the only jw in the family.
since i am very close to him and the family, he has read everything related to shunning, he even asked elders and even them are not sure.
so he wrote a big long letter to bethel to have an answer.

Lilly, your father could associate with you and not tell anybody. It's not at all uncommon for JW's to visit churches for weddings and what not, the only counsel they receive is to not tell anybody. (Yes, I'm serious. The elders will tell you to go, just keep it quiet.)
That's probably the best bet, I remember that for the most part anything in a grey area you could do just don't tell anyone. I was told to just go to any concert I wanted just make sure not to make it known that I was that way I couldn't be counselled on it, basically they knew it would stir up a can of worms otherwise. From what I remember Witnesses could talk to their disfellowshipped and disassociated family members they just couldn't talk about JW stuff.

Double life, anyone??
by dinah inhow many of you lead double lives while growing up (especially those who grew up jw)?
in the last few days, it seems that bothers me about my adolescence.
i had to be one person for my mother, while still trying to be myself.

Not so much the sex and drugs deal but I guess the Rock N Roll part applies. Double life, I swore and still swear enough to make sailors blush (literally last week); I was the king of lying back in the day. Seriously, I could have another witness in my class and still no one but them would know I was a witness and the witness kid would have no idea they didn't know. I also had an unbelieving father who was very opposed, so I used to lead the "I hate the witnesses and don't do anything they tell me" deal with him and the "I love the witnesses and will do anything they tell me" deal with my mom. It wasn't as much of an act for my Dad as it was for my mom.
I think if you're any bit social towards people you'll have to lead a double life. If you're more of an introvert and can spend time alone alot, you may not have lead a double life.

High Morals, Low Morals, No Morals?
by AlmostAtheist ina comment by funkyderek really hit my like a lightning bolt.
on the whole, these feel like high morals to me.
no morals?.

That is a rather great point. I think as a JW (especially toward the end) I had horrible morals. I mean I didn't care if someone was gay, a smoker, an atheist, I would talk to them and treat them descently. I didn't judge people just by what they were, but who they were.
My morals now, I'm pretty highly moral I would say I'm married and haven't cheated on my wife or anywhere close to it. I do believe it's best to wait to have sex till you have some sort of feelings for the person. I just can't imagine having sex just for the sake of having sex, but I don't look down at people if they choose to do that. I mean that's my personal choice, why put that on someone else you know.
I'll say stop me now before I start talking about the travesty of the last election, I'm wearing a Bush International Terrorist shirt right now.

WALKING IN THE PATH OF INCREASING LIGHT - WT STUDY
by Mary infor those of you not "keeping up with the organization"botchtower deals soley with all the bullshit instances of "increased light" on this joke of a religion god's organization.
it asks many drone-like thought-provoking questions as i've listed below.
incredible that these guys claim to be the sole ownership of what is absolute "truth", yet change doctrines like i change lipsticks.

Ooh wicked far fetched but to see the internet be "banned" like an R-Rated movie or something would be fantastic. It's really REALLY far fetched I know, but imagine the horror stories of kids having to stand outside the classroom when the teacher does internet research LOL.

OK so my thought real quick; I posted something about 2034 possibly being the end, also mentioned here is something about 2014, I don't think that there would be an article about increasing light if they were just going to bring up a time of the end. I think there would be articles about prophecy or something.
I have no clue as to what doctrine change is in store, it does seem that way though from the way you guys are talking. I wonder also if it could be the preaching work, maybe it will become like the mormons where one can choose to be a minister and preach or one doesn't have to. The slowly changing of the requirements for all of the pioneering priviledges and so forth could be leading to this change. Just a thought.

It's been a while since I've been to one but from what I remember I don't ever remember having to look up scriptures. Or sing actually. I remember the Kingdom Melody thing, I'm not a huge fan of them, I think they're rather contrived, but the bride seemed happy to be coming down the aisle to the dullness. I remember in my hall they got to choose which Kingdom Melody to come out to. Like picking entrance music, they should pick something to pop the crowd...really.
Afterwards the reception is the real celebration, there's corny music, corny food, and corny conversation. Actually I was at a reception in an Elk's Lodge when I was about 15 where the fire alarm went off and the sprinklers went on in the hall. Everyone ran outside to a torential downpour. I remember by the time everyone made it back inside, at least myself (who was looking for an older person who "didn't make it out" but was actually on the other side) was completely drenched. Everyone settled in again for another long bout of laughter and dancing to the worst freakin' pop music in the history of man (seriously it was like '95 and they were playing Wham) the sprinklers went off again.
Funny looking back, actually I thought it was funny then too.

Anyone ever seen a ghost?
by Clam inhave you ever seen a "ghost"?
if you did, were you scared, fascinated or straight to denial?.
if you did see one, were you a jw at the time and therefore did you believe it to be an apparition projected by the demons?

I did, I'm pretty sure at least. I was somewhat asleep. This is a strange story really but, I fell asleep with my wife completely naked. I'm a pretty modest person and don't like being seen even with out a shirt, nevermind naked. So I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like people were watching me. I quickly covered up my ass and there were about 10 people surrounding the bed. They were really somber looking; for some reason I didn't freak out, I just said to my wife somewhat half-heartidly "Why are all these people watching us?"
When I woke up fully in the morning my wife was yelling at me for being a deep sleeper (which I am, the atom bomb could go off and I wouldn't wake up), while I was asleep the sheets got caught in between my wife's choker necklace and her neck and was choking her bad. She really felt like she was about to pass out, she was kicking me and punching me trying to get me up to help her. But once again I'm a deep sleeper and she couldn't wake me up, she thought she was going to die, and just as that happened the sheet let up and she could breath again. Not even a second later I turned to her and said "Why are all these people watching us?" then fell back to sleep immediately.
It was wierd I remembered it plain as day, my wife was convinced she was about to die. It kinda changed my feelings on some things and confused me with some other stuff.
As for demon stories I have a pretty long one as well, but I gotta get back to work, I'll post it a bit later.
