When they asked from the platform to pledge money - we all had a blank sheet just to put the amount on: no name or fform to fill in: at that stage I was so scared not to put anything on that blank page: so put an amount: but did not pay it: felt so guilty: if only (well not really) I felt like I do today: I would have put R50 000 a month (rands in South Africa) haha would have been so funny!

Smiling at a Disfellowshipped JW instead of Completely Ignoring him
by ProfCNJ ini was driving our car going to our assigned territory for our sunday field minsitry (was with jw 2 sisters) when i saw a disfellowshipped jw riding his motorcycle heading towards us.
the guy was df'd around 2 months ago only (won't delve much on his case).
approximately about 10 meters, we saw him smile.

Always said hi and even a talk - funny thing is as I said in another post about not being invited to my nephews wedding - when he was d/f I spoke to him - now the foot is on the other shoe and he does not do the same - I got d/f because when the elders wanted to speak to me about my diffirent way of thinking - I called him him up and told him that surely after all these years of being in the so called truth he can see that it is not! so end of story for me. Anyway others get d/f for "other things" and think that they are all right.
Yes thank god for apostates we get all the d/f going.

Not invited to my nephews wedding
by outforever inknew that this would be the case - so not surprised.
quite happy to not go - as i would not like to see my mother / or my big sister at all.
this nephew is my small sisters son - my small sister and myself are very close - she does not go to the meetings anymore for quite a while now, her eyes have been opened.

steve2 - yes my sister is going - she has to as she is the mom - but she did not have any say in her son's marriage arrangements - his girlfriend did all that - (so we know who wears the pants) which is true of most jw's its the wife behind all the scens (well most of the time) yes as bigmac says one get hardened to it all.
Even when I see my big sister and mom - (who lives down the road) in the supermarket - I am the one now who turns my head aways for just looks over their head. Cannot at this stage of my life be concerned to look at them in the face and they get to look away. Done with that! they are invisiable to me.

Knew that this would be the case - so not surprised. Quite happy to not go - as I would not like to see my mother / or my big sister at all. This nephew is my small sisters son - my small sister and myself are very close - she does not go to the meetings anymore for quite a while now, her eyes have been opened. I remembered long ago when I found out about all the nonsense that was being taught and spoke to my small sister - she used to listen but she kept on rolling her eyes: now it is different: she is competley out! read c/c and all the info on exjw.net: thank goodness.
It has been 10 or so years that I am out: and am quite happy not to go: could not step into the kingdom hall at all:
Their invite to the guests states: no smoking (as my nephews girlfriend has worldly family members that are coming and who smoke) no alcohol (as they drink like fishers) let me tell you 99.9% of jw are going to be disappointed about this; they are the worst drinkers. No throwing of rice etc, no pants for women (can you belive that) - too scared that the family members will come in tight jeans!! and taint the kingdom hall.

I long long while ago - I tried to throw away the NWT - but could not ( I then still believed in a god) but after seeing it lying around I just threw it out!! no need for it at all as it is just a story that I have heard over and over again - its not true.

Could it be that Jehovah is punishing me for leaving his religion?
by Julia Orwell ini know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.
my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.
as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.

Julia my daughter has really had it tough these last years - she is on jwnet as Loubell and know she will not mind me tell you this.
She had a really really good paying job in advertising - then the company moved it all to JHB (we stay in Durban) (for all the South Africans on this site) so she could not move and relocate.
Applied for another job which she got about 4 or so months later - (if you see on her other posts on this site - Loubell really went thru a tough time - she was down and out mentally etc etc) (i had never seen her like that before) this was a dead end job - applied for another advertising spot - got it but it paid really bad - but she decided this job was better than none at all.
She then got recommended for another advertising job - much better salary - (she was to start up the advertising dept) lots of promises but some have come to nothing - she is still there but it is tough - let me tell you Julia that all on this site rallied together and helped Loubell get thru this bad time in her life - she is forever so grateful for this!!
Loubell used to say to me "why, why me of all people does this have to happen - I am hard working and LOVE advertising -etc" so yes not easy - but she is strong and applies herself - picks herself up and starts again.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. ...Winston Churchill
all the best Julia - all the best x

This is the first time I am hearing that you can stay at home and still tune into the meetings by phone!! live in South Africa so maybe we do not have that here!! my sister's kids would have told her (she does not go to the meetings) and she would have told me.
They must have a lot of sick people staying at home! wonderful don't have to get dressed up and go out - I think jw would still tune in because they would feel guilty if they do not.

DF=death
by doneandout inour last midweek meeting was going along as planed, then after the last talk, an elder was called up to say: member x is no longer a jw, please sing.... after the song it was silent (compared to todays were people started talk right away) and the father had his head down with someones hand on his back.
i didn't catch what they were saying, but the pose said: i'm sorry for your loss.. it was a weird night thinking how leaving a religion could couse such sadnness.. jw.org.
