as a fading jw i am trying to find ways to fill up the time i wasted in field circus and try to make this world a better place.
the food bank is used by our judicial system, we get lots of low-level criminals doing community service, every other day i hear "what did you do?
No one buys food from food banks.. the food they provide is free no? In the UK it is.
The watchtower does absolutely nothing to help the poor or homesless anywhere on this earth. When it comes to money and charity and giving to those in need and to strangers I have never see such a group of utterly closed fisted individuals as I have seen among the witnesses.

since the faithful and discreet slave class now opposes higher education because it allegedly brings with it 'bad association', i wonder what their take is on online education.
let's remember that distance education was pioneered by fundamentalist saudi arabia and apartheid south africa for the very reasons that the jehovah's witnesses criticize higher education.
my wife is one of the faithful and i fear for our kids future, that they will see no point in keeping their grades up.

I understand what you mean villagegirl, there are no exams, no tutoring, diplomas etc. But I think it qualifies.
It's how most of us here got our knowledge of the TATT. Online distance learning. Teaching oneself by using the incredible resources that are available online on any and every subject is most defintely educational.
I became a professioanal photographer by completely teaching myself. Before that I was a professional musician again entirely self taught.

I wish ill on no one. Depsite how much damage and hurt they caused me when I was young, sensitive and impressionable, I wish them no ill.
I blame the organisaiton for what happened to me.. and eventually over time all these people too. Seems some of them ended up worse off. It's all so sad and tragic the way this religion can utterly destroy lives.
It's clearly not the spritual paradise of healing love they describe it to be.
hi all, just happened to come across this site again after 10 or 12 years - i see some old posts of mine under a diff username (can't reopen the account, forgot the freakin' password).
i left the borg in 1977, age 21, haven't looked back but every now and then i am amazed to find there's some old, old attitude from the jw days that i find is still clinging to my pants leg like a stray sticker.. looking over some of the posts here and some linked ex-jw sites yesterday it finally hit me - it is an effing cult.
when i was in, we were always accused of being that, so naturally we totally spouted the society's line and got all defensive, etc.

That fact is only just really dawning on me too right now and the serious harm and abuse this does to one's mind, heart and spirit. That damage goes very deep and can take years if not decades to wash it from one's system. I think I would do well to read Steven Hassan's book again.
there are books out there that talk about why it is so difficult to convince someone that they are wrong.
hassan and singer specifically address destructive cults.
hassan refers to cult members under mind control and singer under thought reform.

are "stuck in" jws in a toxic relationship?
this past two weeks, i've been realizing that a few of my jw relatives are very toxic people (they fit the description below).
i realized that alot of ex-jws who are stuck dealing with jws may also be in a toxic relationship.
