Of the 6 elders that were on my committee in 1884: 10 of their collective children have left 'the truth' completely, 3 are gay, one is on class A drugs, 3 are apostate, the rest had mental breakdowns and fell away. The one married elder that did not have kids was removed as an elder but not disfellowshipped for sexually molesting a younger sister during and one-on-one home shepherding visit at her place.
"By their fruits you will know them."

Hey D-M:
Have you located that information yet 'proving' your claim that no (atheist) Chinese has invented anything in the last 1,000 years? I'm dying to read that....
It was not me that made that comment ADCMS.. I would never be so reckless. But you thinking it was me makes your previous statment make sense now.
A quick search will show the Chinese have been extremely busy in the inventions game.

Dis-Member seems to be one of those people who will do the right thing only because....fear of punishment from some god keeps him from doing what he really wants to do. In his view, an atheist must be wicked because he doesn't believe in god...therefore apparently has no goodness or morals whatsoever.
Perhaps I need to qualify ADCMS.. I was referring to the extreme ends of both the so called Christian and atheist spectrum. And you have to admit there are some pretty unpleasant individuals in both camps. I'm sure too there are also gentle and kind individuals in both circles.
.. and no I try to do the right thing because it feels right to me.. not because I am told or because I read it in some book. If I feared punishment I would still be at the meetings I quit over a year and a half ago and on my knees pleading. I do neither. Even when in I was extremely independent. I fear neither punishment or death as I have had many close dealings with both in my life.
I'm currently floating in no-mans land till I can figure out what I exactly do and do not believe. I am neither a Christian nor an atheist.. what ever options are left I'm in that blur somewhere.. One thing I feel somewhat sure about though is that everyone of us is wrong.
@Objectivetruth: You just confuse me that's all. I meant no offense.. -

Is Faith Immoral?
by Coded Logic inwhen people willfully believe something without evidence, or contrary to evidence, are they neglecting thier moral responsibility?
so many people say faith is a virtue but i just can't comprehend why anyone would think that.

Let's take romance as an analogy. In the early stages there is plenty of deception on both sides as we present our best selves. There's a fair bit of self-deception too, as our hormones kick in, the rose coloured glasses are firmly installed, and all our evolutionary drive is hurtling us towards coupling and commitment. It is not logical or reasonable, but we do it anyways.
That usually only applies to young naive and often inexperienced teenagers. Not mature, experienced and critical thinking persons. I mean when was the last time you 'hurtled towards coupling'?
Between blind love and blind faith I think blind faith to be the more dangerous.

Why so long between Skype appointments? Does she not have a laptop or something? I never heard anyone in my life say: "Hey let's talk on Skype in 7 days time.."
In my experience such long distance relationships are fraught with difficulty stress and frustration not to mention they can be very expensive. I have been in a few. I had a relationship with a woman that lived 1,484 miles from me. In the first year alone I spent just under £20,000 just on going back and forth visiting her 6 times. Then when you have to leave and come home the feeling of separation and loneliness is worse then you can imagine. It's actually quite horrible.I would be cautious about getting involved.

ELDER LIES AND GET'S PRAISED FOR IT! FALSE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST ME!

You should always stand up to elders... I have found them to be generally cowards.
Jame 4:7 Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
That also applies to elders.

The air of superiority is the core of being a Jehovah's Witness don't you think ? JW's believe they have all the answers. Their whole existence is based on the idea of "us" and "them". JW's have the idea the common rubble of humanity around them simple do not have the "special knowledge" they have. There is no special knowledge in reality, everything knowable can be known. Even those who leave the WT and see behind the curtain and the immense fraud and arrogance of the "organization" often retain, desperately in fact, the need to be "right" to "have all the answers".
That right there is about the only bit of absolute truth I have read in a long time. It's true of ex-jw's that have left the org but remained some form of annoying hippy Christian and it's true of many ex-jw's that have become hard core absolute cold hearted atheists.
This does not include Objectivetruth who deserves a category all of his/her own own. Buddhist practice detachment by the way not attachment.
