I remember that article about the crossdressing. Funny thing is we had just returned from a cruise (with alot of witnesses) and they had a ladies clothing scavenger hunt in which you had to find a dress, shoes, purse, ect. and dress the man in the group up. Several elders were dressed like ladies, it was hilarious!!!!

OK, I know Yoga comes from a religious background, but I have been taking a Yoga class for several months, and if there was any thing religious I would have stopped the class, but there is NOTHING. You do sit quiet for a time at the begining focusing on your breath, but she does not encourage us to meditate during this time or anything. With any exercising you have to ensure that you exhale one the exersion and inhale one the rest, we do this in my aerobics and weight training class as well so I see nothing wrong with focusing on your breath. All we do is stretch (poses). I have really toned up doing this and it has given me better flexibility. I can't understand why they would ban everyone from a good exercise, just because it has been used in religion sometime in the past, if no religious practices are associated with it now. Just ranting. Opinions?

In the ritual the candy represented life blood. I looked up the origin on the web and it said nothing about blood. It supposedly represented money in one place and luck in another place and christians tried to put a faith spin on it, but nothing about blood. To me it seems the same as pin the tail on the donkey a game I played at many witness gatherings when I was a child. Anybody know anything about this? I had never heard of Pinata's being a no no.
It was announced at our hall that it was 6. It was right after so the number may have went up since then. That was the turning point for me. Every prayer, with the exception of one smart elder, was for the 6 witnesses and their families. I was like HELLO, does anyone realize this is screwed up? We are supposed to be christians, loving and non-judging and 3000+ people died and you only pray for 6? Bunch of Psychos. I don't know their names, sorry, they didn't announce that at the time.

YEAH, when I was SINGLE. Meat Market Heaven!!! I looked forward to walking around with my girlfriends and picking up some guys. After I got married, they became alot less fun and I finally realized it wasn't the talks I liked, it was the guys.

i was explaining why i can't and won't go back to the kh.
i tried to explain my feelings as best i could without annoying him or making him feel upset.
I have discovered that reading a scripture in context with others often clears the matter up. Matt Chapter 10: “Brother38 will hand over brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise against39 parents and have them put to death. 10:22 And you will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 10:23 Whenever40 they persecute you in one place,41 flee to another. I tell you the truth,42 you will not finish going through all the cities and towns43 of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
It appears that the ones Jesus is speaking of doing the hating/disowning are the ones who don't believe in him. If read in this context when Jesus says he will set a man against his father, it would be because the father believed in Christ and the Man didn't. Those believing in christ, the witnesses, should not be the ones doing the hating/disowning of others.
He will try to argue that disfellowshipping is loving, but is it really? Be prepared for this arguement as well. If all else fails, (If you are baptised) state that baptisim made you responsible for yourself before god and he is not responsible for you and if you don't want to go to the meeting that is your choice and on YOUR conscience.
my parents have finally disowned me.. my dad called yesturday and told me to get the "dogs of my mothers back" about my upcoming wedding.. i told him that i havent put anyone on mum's back and if they are saying it, its because they want to and don't agree with what he and mum are doing.
i said that mum can speak for herself and he said that she and will and the next time you speak to your mother she will tell you that we dont want to ever speak to or see you again...".
at this point in the conversation i hung up the phone in his ear.
I am so sorry to hear that. It is the one thing I am super afraid of so good for you for standing up for yourself. It is your life now, you don't have to follow their rules anymore and sadly many parents don't understand taht. I think that is one thing that has turned me off about the JW's. I know if I remove myself from the congregation they will stop speaking to me. Love is unconditional. That isn't what is taught in the KH. I don't have the balls yet to stand up for myself, but knowing that others have done it helps.
HANG IN THERE!!! Maybe your parents will realize their mistake and start talking to you once again. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I can honestly say I was glad to have the experience. It has made me a stronger person and more of an individual as opposed to a follower of the crowd. Being and outcast in every part of society taught me to not be afraid to be different. Unfortunately for the JW's it also taught me to rely on myself and not on what others told me. Hence my falling away. I am not completely gone yet, still go to the KH about once every 2 weeks merely to please my mother. Again I agree with the others that I did gain a thorough knowledge of the bible and yes it does come in handy with Jeopardy. I did also make several great friends.
Don't get me wrong, it left me with alot of emotional shit to deal with as well, but the only regret I have is not going to college. Really wish my parents had been more willing to let me go, but the society says no, so that is the way it went.
