EXACTLY!!!! I know even if I sent this to my dad with all the reasoning, he would still come back with his usual when he can't answer something: "Well, they have to be the right religion because they are the only ones preaching the good news." To which I reply, NO THEY AREN'T and the arguement begins again. They are just to stubborn to admit they have been proved wrong!!

My fathers arguement is always that the FDS is not inspired so their humanity causes them to get things wrong. They are merely spirit directed. I realized a main flaw in this arguement last night. It just hit me for no reason. What is the difference between spirit guidance and inspired?

Dads arguement would be that men of old were inspired not spirit directed and that explains why the bible writers were correct and the FDS has made mistakes. These passages, which are just a few of many, prove that WRONG!!! They both are "spirit directed" and claiming to be "inspired". Inspired means receiving messages from God. This would be the same if God spoke directly like in the burning bush or if he used his holy spirit. If it wasn't then God really didn't speak to Jeus when the dove landed on his head, because he used the Holy Spirit.

I never realized this basic flaw till now. It seems so simple. How could I have missed it?

the thing that immediately caught my eye was the explicite standpoint that the morals of this world went into decay in 1914. .

this statement was often echeod to me during my formative years.

i remember my very first day of elementary school (stateside) at the age of 4. my parents were flustered because they couldn't believe they actually had to start their only child into public school to begin with; after all, the end was right around the corner!

this was 1984, the year the first apple mac was introduced, 80's music was loud and in your face, the delorean was cool, and miami vice was just in production.

Yeah, I too am real pissed off about the lack of tigers and lions in my backyard paradise. I never even tried for college as I knew it wouldn't happen. Sometime I wonder what it would have been like if I had the opportunity to go. Guess I will never know. Sorry you went through all of that, but it is great that you have your mother back!!!

While I appreciate your effort, it is just sad to see that it is of no use. I came to the same conclusion with my parents. No matter if I won the arguement or not, they would just go back to "It has to be the truth because they are the only ones preaching the good news." To which I would reply, "You are not!" and over and over. I just gave up. If they refuse to be reasonable, there is NO way to reason with them. You are in the same boat as the rest of us. I feel for you.

Disfellowshiping is it the act of judging?

somehow to me the disfellowshipping is very close to judging another person.

jesus once said he who is without sin cast the first stone.

now i know how that repented person felt when jesus stepped in.

You have hit the nail on the head. They are sitting in judgement of others which is the place where only God should have jurisdiction. Judge lest not your be judged. The scriptures they use for Disfellowshipping are grosslly misapplied. If you read the context they are in instead of one verse you will see this. I am truely sorry that your dad has had to go through all of this. Best wishes to you and him.
