How old were you when you got Baptised?
by El Kabong ini was 13 at the time.
i wanted to get baptised before the end came in 1975. .
back then, 13 was borderline young for baptism, but from what i've been reading, some are now getting baptised as young as 9 or 10. .

Who has the best chance of defeating Bush in '04?
by badwillie ini will be backing former vermont gov howard dean to run in '04.
my reason: clinton was quoted recently as saying that "strong and wrong always beats weak and right".
i remember during the run up to election in 2000 watching the bush vs. gore debates and thinking..i know gore is smarter but he comes across as weaker in debate.

I'm pulling for John Edwards, mostly because he is from BFE, North Carolina. I doubt he will make it that far, but I can keep my fingers crossed.

Article on Watchtower website discusses child molestors
by expatbrit inthe article on the watchtower website entitled "let us abhor what is wicked" comments fairly extensively on child molestors both before becoming jw's and while they are jw's.. here are the relevant paragraphs:for a man who was a child molester before he was baptized, there may be another consequence.
when he learns the truth, he repents and turns around, not bringing that cruel sin into the congregation.
he may thereafter make fine progress, completely overcome his wrong impulses, and even be inclined to 'reach out' for a responsible position in the congregation.

It is not his status as an authority figure that should be of concern but, rather, the unblemished purity of the congregation.—
Most children are open, eager to please, and thus vulnerable to abuse by a scheming adult whom they know and trust.
Contridictory, don't ya think?
It isn't the molestors status of an authority figure that should be of concern, but children are eager to pleas adults they trust? That makes NO SENSE!!!
What's this talk about the pure, unblemished congregations? Do those exist?

My Mother the Classic ETERNAL Witness
by unique1 inher ever loving text and comment sent to me every morning, included the following this morning.
it is just so ignorant that i almost can't stand it.
obviously it is a subliminal message about my non-attendance of meetings, but i had to vent and share because she really just pisses me off.. look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey .

Expatbrit: Funny.
Cat: Maybe I will try that one. She will probably think I am just being plain silly and ignore it. My mom, in case you can't tell is a bit of a psycho.

Dodgy comment in WT 99 5/1
by Noumenon infor any readers of e-watchman's articles, especially his article on 'we have concluded a covenant with death', please note this comment from this 1999 watchtower article:.
"23 we must be certain that our refuge continues to be jehovah and his mountainlike organization.
(2 samuel 22:2, 3; psalm 18:2; daniel 2:35, 44) that is where we will find protection!

I totally agree. Once I started looking I saw a bunch of that stuff. It was either in the Daniel or Isiah Vol. 1, because I was still going to the Bookstudy, but they applied the scripture talking about John the Baptist coming before Jesus to the Organization preaching before Armageddon. I was pretty pissed at that one too.

Logic Lures Them in, Emotions Keep them In
by jgnat inthe wtbts was able to get a foothold years ago because they offered a radical departure from traditional christianity.
they offered up an alternative view of god and the afterlife, some prophetic math, and a good kick in the pants to mainline churches.
the catholic (universal) church deserved that kick, caught asleep on the job.

Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey
through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of
men. - Col. 2:8
Paul sounded that warning because he sensed a real danger lurking behind
the thinking of those attracted by the world. The word "philosophy"
literally means "the love and pursuit of wisdom." That in itself may be
beneficial. In fact, the Bible, particularly in the book of Proverbs,
encourages the pursuit of the right kind of knowledge and wisdom. (Prov.
1:1-7; 3:13-18) Paul, however, coupled "philosophy" with "empty
deception." In other words, Paul viewed the wisdom that the world had to
offer as empty and deceptive. Like an inflated balloon, it had the
appearance of solidity, but there was no substance to it. It would
certainly be futile, even disastrous, to base one's of right and wrong on
something as insubstantial as "the philosophy and empty deception" of the
world. w 8/1/01 6, 7
Comment: Today the world is filled with different types of philosophy. It
has some good points but none of it can stand to the wisdom Jehovah tells
us to apply. The knowledge and understanding we gain from study of the
Bible is the most valuable knowledge we can attain. It gives us
information on how to properly live our lives and offers a grand hope for
everlasting life in peace. When we misapply that council is when we get in
trouble. For example, our council in the Bible is not to be owing anything
but love. Well, because we did not apply that council we are in financial
trouble. NO MORE CREDIT!! I also know of a brother who pioneered for
years and went to Bethel for 4 years and decided to go to college. What
did he major in? Philosophy! He is no longer in the truth. He stopped
attending meetings, studying, and has gotten married out of the truth. I
saw him before he got married and spoke to him about my concerns. He told
me he wasn't going to do anything to cause the Big D
(disfellowshipping). How disrespectful! He has made his choice whether he
is disfellowshipped or not, Jehovah is his judge. Let us all apply wisdom
from Jehovah!

How to start up your own cult
by refiners fire inbecoming a cult leader is not as tough as you might think.
all it takes is a little charisma and some insecure, feeble-minded followers.
the reasons you might wanna become one are many -- it pays well (and all of it tax-exempt), you get lotsa nookie, you can get other people to do your laundry, etc..

Down at the local suds parlor you'll find oodles of brain-dead scum, Perfect cult fodder.

Today was my D-Day ... I beat the odds!
by Amazing inlast year on july 15th, 2002, my cardiologist gave me less than a year to live.
with the 14 remaining blocked arteries, there was not much hope.
even a by-pass would only correct 3 or 4 arteries and give me a slight lease on life.
