Omaha area - suicide?
by asleif_dufansdottir ini don't know if it's ok to post names on this board, but i've been trying to find out about this for some months and can't (i don't have any 'connections' who are still in).. i heard a very well-known sister (beautiful, wealthy, pioneer, good-looking husband, parts on assemblies) from my old circuit committed suicide some time back.. anybody know anything about it?
i always admired and, honestly, really envied her, although i didn't know her personally.
i'm very curious.

Lurkers - Confused
by Mystery ini am a newbie and apparently very naive.
i in reading different threads, lurkers have been mentioned.
my initial thought was "lurking" meant people like me reading for awhile and eventually posting.

Heh heh heh... Grace, you kick ass!
You go, girl.
It really floors them when you don't flipping care what they think. They're so used to being so damned important.

free literature
by Beanie inmy mother in law informed me that the mags, books, bibles etc.. are now free over the counter.
(you put a donation in the box).
apparantly this dispels the notion that the wtbs is only out to make money.

That was right when I started going out in service. What a mess that was. At the conventions and assemblies that year and the next, every friggin' 10 minutes the brothers on the platform were reminding us we were supposed to donate for everything. You could just tell they were sh*tting their pants, afraid they were going to go in the hole!
*I* think that they thought they'd get more money out of their loyal JW-bots. And I think Bethel was very unpleasantly surprised that 'Jehovah's loyal followers' stiffed the organization as much as they did!!!

Oh, man, that reminds me of the experience one brother gave from the platform (CO visit? Convention? Assembly? Don't remember). He told about an elderly JW couple who told him they were so appreciative of the information found in the Watchtower that, every time they got one in the mail (this was the late 80's), they would kneel together in the kitchen and pray to Jehovah in gratitude to be worthy of this priceless information before they even took it out of the brown wrapper.
Even as a JW I thought that was a bit much!!

Witnesses and Dating (An Essay)
by SYN inby [syn],
introduction
unclean thoughts are what happen when you see a particularly fine specimen of the sex you enjoy looking at the most and you consider what you would like to do with them.

ROFLMAO! This is the funniest damn thing i've read in ages.
“Unclean Thoughts” are what happen when you see a particularly fine specimen of the sex you enjoy looking at the most and you consider what you would like to do with them. If what you have considered doing with them deviates in any way at all from planting a bed of rosebushes while discussing last Sunday’s Watchtower Study, you have just had an Unclean Thought.
Well, then, I'm in trouble, because all those thoughts about what I'd like to do with Hugh Jackman (Logan from the Xmen movies) have nothing to do with planting roses and discussing the Watchtower. LOL.
Some things are just worth the risk of being on the wrong end of a budgie flock at an unspecified time in the near future. ('specially when the risk is actually zero)

Ever wonder why elders read from a piece of paper when DF'ing someone?
by Jourles in.
of course, the reason why they read from a slip of paper is to make sure they do not get caught in any legal difficulties..

ROFLMAO....
So, in page 2 of 5 on "Guidelines for Weddings"...it says...
"...if two or more credible eyewitnesses can confirm that the mate has stayed all night in the same house with a person of the opposite sex (or a known homosexual) under improper circumstances" then the spouse has a scriptural divorce??
Hah. You know JW men came up with the "all night" requirement...as if it takes the average dub "all night" to have sex??? Please. Most of the best, most theocratic brothers are probably 3 minute wonders (as in she's wondering what actually happened). That's just wishful thinking on their part. So only actually sleeping with somebody is grounds for divorce?
That brings up a good question, if it takes you less than all night, are "quickies" not grounds for divorce??? ROFL.

I must admit I haven't read them yet, but I plan to read Joseph Campbell's studies of the commonalities of the myths of all cultures (including Bible stories) and what those commonalities may tell us about humanity's need for religion, as well as tales that most if not all religions share.
If your son's reading level is up to it, he might find them really interesting. There is also a DVD/VHS of what I think was a PBS series on Campbell by Bill Moyers, called "Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth." And another DVD/VHS called "Joseph Campbell - Mythos".

What a handsome guy, but are you sure he's not part FOX? (look at his tail) I was wondering if he's not (all or part) Maine Coon.

OOH! What a pretty boy!! Let me see if I can figure out how to link to a picture of my George (he's been gone a few years and I still miss him). There are pics of my other cats there too. Cats named George are extra wonderful.
