I am married to someone who was never associated with the JW's. Since we still have his family and friends and my post JW friends it makes life seem full. I don't mind not having him understand completely what I have been through because there are so many other perks with him never having been through that. However I have been away from the JW's for a long time now and perhaps when I was freshly out I may have felt differently.

I got scammed!!!!!!!!! But it's okay now.
by Mulan ini debated about posting this, because it's embarrassing but i decided to do it just in case anyone else falls for this one.. i have 3 websites where i market nutritional supplements, and i get thousands of dollars in orders each month.
at the end of july, i got a very large order ($10,500) for one of the products.
i filled the order using the credit card numbers provided by the customer.

That is horrible. People have some nerve.
Sorry you had to go through that - but I would not be embarrassed at all - you did nothing wrong. I can't imagine any other way you could have done this differently since you got tha auth on the transactions etc.

The New System of Things - How much longer?
by Nosferatu inthis post isn't about "how much longer until the new system of things" arrives.
i'm wondering how much longer people will buy this load of crap?
the society has been telling the r&f that armageddon is right around the corner for 124 years now, and they're still using this method.
-
breal
The society is very convincing in how it uses current events as "signs of the times" (more earthquakes, storms, famine, war etc)Unfortunately JW's tend to forget that it may not be a case of these events increasing in occurance but rather more reporting of them by news, internet, etc. I think people need something to hold onto. It is easier for some to wait for "paradise earth", than it would be to admit they had spent there entire life believing something that was not going to happen. It is similar to staying with a dead end job/relationship - someone sticks with what they know as it is within there comfort zone. Also as many know as soon as any JW stops following the rank and file it creates all sorts of problems for them, df'd, labelled as bad association.
In speaking with a JW coworker recently she said she is happy that the society adjusts timelines and admits mistakes in these areas as it shows they are gaining increasing insight into the bible.

Incompatibility
by JH inin chemistry, certain chemicals react violently to other ingredients and should never be put together.
if we make a comparison with our everyday lives, do you think that certain people are incompatible with others, and that no matter what they do, they will never be friends?
have you ever experienced being incompatible to someone?
-
breal
Yes. There comes a point where it is not worth it to invest energy or time into a relationship or situation if the end result is not benneficial. There have been a few people over the years that I was not compatible with, and yet I still made an effort. I no longer do that since I might as well invest that effort into relationships with potential.

Disappointed a little .... How many of your family still stuck in the borg?
by run dont walk inmy brother had called a few months ago, and said he and his family will be travelling through on their way to the usa, i have now found out that they are passing me by, and just continuing on to their destination.. i haven't seen him or my nephews in 10 years, actually this was the first time i talked to him in 5 years and was quite surprised they were even considering coming by.
a brief history on me, i left the borg at 20, and i ran, moved 2000 miles to get away from family.
they really believed (i think) that i was going to fall flat on my face and come crawling back asking for forgiveness, dream on.

There are only a handful of my family members now that are still witnesses.
Reading your post got me to thinking...especially this part...
I have done better then my whole family put together
Recently I was discussing with Spaznik how well I figured I had done for myself and how I really wished I could make my family realize this....Spaznik mentioned that just as I figured I had done well (good job, husband, home, life etc), they too felt the same about there success (still being a witness etc)...or something to that affect... it's all about perception. It helped me to hear that from someone else cuz it made me realize I don't have to prove anything to them cuz they'll never see it from my point of view.
I am sorry that they are passing by and you won't be able to chat with him...but perhaps in due time you will get the opportunity to express what you wish.
Cheers,
Breal

Teejay - No worries! I understand where you are coming from cuz you have been here for a long while and it can seem very boring if reading topics from days gone by.
Ravyn - Thanx!!

Now at this point, I gotta ask "WHY?"
I think for everyone it is different...for me the reasons I lurked for a while were:
I found there seemed to be some very clear alliances on the board and it seemed "dangerous" to go against the grain. The topics are interesting but I often have an opinion that someone has already stated it. I also am not as well written or intelectual as some here (on certain topics) so I did not want to get in over my head. People are wary of newbies (rightfully so I guess in some cases)...but I have read a few posts where the long time board members get upset that a newbie posts a topic of interest to them and someone else feels they should have just checked old posts to see if already covered...which is not fair since other newbies may have something to add & it seems harmless to restart something and see where it goes.
Just my 2c...

Gettin' Personal here.......
by Frannie Banannie inthanks to little toe's piquing my interest on this subject, i hafta ask it...... .
has anyone here had any personal spiritual experiences and is anyone here brave enough to describe/relate any personal spiritual experiences they've had, whether pre-borg, during being borganized or post-borg?
to be more specific, have you ever seen any angels or spirit creatures, been made aware of their presence in any way, interacted with or communicated with them, or had dream/visions...etc?
-
breal
No conversations and sightings with angels etc. However I am very aware of a "spirit" world or the aura that is left behind by those that have departed. I cannot go into antique stores as the emotions are too overwhelming. Also when we were house hunting there were houses I could not enter as I was sure that someone had died a horrible death in that house or on that land. The house we finally bought brought me a sense of being watched in one area so I avoided going through a certain doorway...discovered from the previous residents son that his grandfather had a heartattack and died in that portion of the yard when they were clearing the land to build the house. I don't find it upsetting or bad... it is simply intense.
I also have a strange sense of deja-vu...so I kept track of weird dreams/thoughts and after a few years I realized I was able to see situations that would occur to me (not usually very important ones) in the future.
However some people think I am weird in a sense that I do not "believe" or give much thought to demons or evil forces....however I do believe in angels/guardians.

Oh I so feel your pain. It is amazing the things that people get so worked up about - makes one wonder how they deal with the really important things in life. It also amazes me that people are willing to sit on hold for endless amount of time to complain about a 2c billing error or some such trivial thing.... (of course to them it is the principal of the matter)....

Oh Estee - I am sorry to hear this.
Follow your heart and do whatever you feel is right. Be it a bunch of peonies delivered on her wedding day, a card, a letter... Or just a quiet moment spent thinking of her on that special day!
Hugs,
