Having to have a chaperon when you go out on a date.

my daughter was telling me yesterday that she was explaining the differences between jehovah's witnesses and other religions to her co-workers.
she explained that witnesses can't date "worldly" people-----only fellow witnesses.
she said jws don't celebrate birthdays because they are "pagan".......it dawned on my daughter that it was very incredible all the things jehovah's witnesses don't believe in or will not do.....can you think of different things that only jws do or do not do??

i was just thinking back to when i got baptised.
and i dont really remember the real reason why.. thinking about it seems to bring up the idea that i only got baptised because of the way everyone treats you when they find out you are getting dunked - and not specifically to serve jehovah.. baptism day comes and you sit there and listen to the talk.
then you go out and get your swimming duds on and line up at the "whatever it is they decide to dunk you in".
Why did I get baptized? One word, FEAR!!! I was baptized in 1975 after only studying with the jws for 6 months. I didn't understand what I was getting into. After all, they taught that in 1975 Armageddon was imminent. So I thought that I had better get dunked, and sort it all out later. I trusted them, even though I didn't understand completely what was involved, I believed that the jws had the truth.
I know real stupid, I was at a vulnerable time in my life.

i've seen a lot of persons that got baptized and go thru 100 questions with the elders say that they did not know that such and such a thing was a disfellowshipping offense.
or that they would be counseled or looked down upon for a certain thing.
did you ever experience that type of thing?
An elder and his wife studied with my hubby and myself together (we were not raised in the "truth"). My hubby was far more advanced in understanding the JW crap than I was. So we studied at his pace. I was left way behind, being too shy to say "slow down". I just nodded my head and thought to myself that I would sort this all out later and get a better understanding of what was being taught.
We were baptized in 1975, so because the end was so near there was a group of us that went through the baptismal questions together. I was able to skate through that also.
So, the answer is no, I did not understand what I was getting myself into.

our two kids were so excited this morning going to school.
this afternoon was the christmas party.
so they were all set with party clothes in a bag to change into and their assigned food/drink they had to bring.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. It's great that your kids can just be normal kids without the Watchtower baggage. I'm so happy for you and your children! Sounds like you all had a blast.
I wasn't overly strict with the jw rules at Christmas time. I aways tried to do something special for my daughter and make sure she got some new clothes and toys during that time of year. But she missed so much growing up, I still feel the guilt. She is now making up for lost time with her little family. She has every nook and cranny of her home decorated. She put up my Mom's Christmas tree that has been in the family for years, it's so beautiful . I went with my daughter to take my Grandson (her little son) to see Santa at the mall. It was so much fun seeing the joy in his little face.
Have a Merry Christmas!

take the test................mmmmmmmmmmmmmm i don't think it fits me!
fresh, lively charming, amusing, practical and always interesting; someone who's always in the centre of attention, but sufficiently well balanced enough not let it go all to your head.
My score was 40
The description in the test results said the exact same thing as bikerchicks.

well, it's been a long time coming, but my publisher just sent me the proof for the cover of my sci-fi novel today, and it looks fantastic!
i wrote back and told them it was well worth the wait.. as soon as they release the book, i'll make a shameless announcement so you can all rush out and buy a copy.
(unless, of course, you want me to come to your town for a book-signing!
Congratulations, Jim! Your book sounds awesome. Keep us posted, your book would defiantly be something that I would be interested in reading. You mentioned that you were going to be doing a book signing at a PA bookstore. I'm in PA let me know which one, maybe it's close to where I live.

and how did you learn the truth?
remember those questions?
remember how jws would always ask you that when they met you?.
I was baptized in 1975. Had my awakening in the winter of 1998. Left for good December 2001. It's my 2 year anniversary!

in our personal life, there has been a slight improvement over last year.
our area, our little town is still struggling and losing small businesses.
my latest co-worker is a fellow business owner.
In the next month or so the area that I live in, there is going to be two Walmarts opening that are only about 10 miles apart from each other and a Lowe's hardware store. Already a hardware store that had been in business for over 30 has closed. So far none of the business (that were left after the mall opened) in the downtown area have closed. I hope that our downtown areas survives Walmart. As for the economy it's so-so. Some people must have really good jobs because there a lot of really big houses being built in the area. We still have coal mines and a few steel mills here, but with the tariffs being lifted, I don't know if the steel mills that are left will survive.

well, here we are - three quarters of a century of weekend polls.
doesn't seem like it, but when i look back, well, we've sent these polls from downunder and from the tropical jungles of exotic regions as well as from the northern polar region.. so how's the weekend shaping ip?
good we hope.
First of all I usually arrived late, sometimes I would miss about half the talk (stomach problems was my excuse :-) Then for the rest of the talk I would doze off or daydream. I would design my flower and veggie garden in my head. I would think of new ways to decorate my house. Then it was time for a restroom brake. I did try to pay attention, really.
