Did you get made fun of when you were in school? If so, what did you do about it?
I'm curious to know because when i was in Junior High I was constantly picked on made fun of and the butt of many jokes. Even remembering that hurts till this day. I guess its a given that if you grow up JW and dont hide it at school then you are going to stick out like a sore thumb, and that i did. Sixth grade was the absolute worse for me. At that age all the kids were in cliques. I had my own clique which consisted of one person, myself. My clothes sucked. My mom got all my clothes from second hand stores, which i dont blame her of course because it was all we could afford. But man, did it suck going to school wearing courdoury slacks (in 1988). I would come home crying and my mom would say that I was supposed to be different because i was a JW and Jehovah's people constantly have their faith tested and undergo persecution. It got better when i got in high-school but I still had a hard time interacting with "worldy" people because of my underdeveloped social skills. I'm much better now that im out, but i never ever ever want my kids to go through what i did. *sigh*
ok someone please give me a hug

What does SOON mean to a JW
by Noumenon inwas reading some early 1990 wt articles relating to the un, and was amused at the expression 'soon' god will and do this and do that etc.
it made me wonder just what does this expression mean to the average jw.
how relative is this word 'soon' and 'shortly'.

I think when they get a question like this, JW's always revert back to "In Jehovah's due time" because they always refer to the 7 creative "days" and that to Jehovah, one day to him is like a thousand years to us.

ahhhh, your guys' stories bring back so many memories (yuck) JW KGB at its finest! I've got another one... this one really burns me up till this day. I wanted to be a counseler when i was in highschool, my parents told me that was fine since another witness was going and we were going to be in the same cabin. Well, i made the mistake of asking an elders daughter if she was going, because she was attending an elementary school in which her class would be going to camp the same week i was to be a counseler. I asked her in front of him, and she quietly says "no". Stupid me, i was like "why not??" and he promptly answers for her "because i dont want my daughter associating with wordly people for an entire week!"
Well a few days later, my parents have a talk with me and tell me after reading the scriptures they realize that it might not be a good idea for me to be a counselor. Of course, they have me read the 2 Corinthians 3:19 bad association spoils useful habits, and im thinking (so a bunch of 11 year olds are bad association??) I tell you i was highly upset. I find out later that this elder had a talk with my dad and told him that he wasnt letting his daughter go and he didnt think i should go either! (bah!!)

All the people in my group were boys and one of them volunteered to drive to our project site. well our site was near a sisters house. Little did i know that when we got out of the car this sister happened to be peering out of the window.
Sure enough, when i got home, my dad was like "sister nosy saw you get out of a car with for other boys... she told me she was very "concerned" I knew it was perfectly innocent, but i had to spend the next half hour defending myself and explaining that it was part of my school project. All the while i was thinking (WTF??? Do i always have to look over my shoulder? Are there dubs spying on me wherever I go, just so they could run to the elders to express their "concern"?) Why dont they just mind their own f*****n business?
Did any of you have a similar experience? where some of you doing something perfectly innocent when a group of dubs out in service saw you and then ran to your parents or the elders? did you ever find yourself hauled before a JC for something that was totally stupid and taken out of context?

Will America Ever Be Able To Beat England?
by Englishman init seems that americans are keen to get amongst the big boys when it comes to soccer skills as can be seen from the embedded page futher down this post.. however, i have a sneaky feeling that americans might well be lacking in the genetic skills department when it comes to actually understanding the finer points of the noble art of soccer, let alone having any natural aptitude for the game.
this is a an excerpt from a book by bill bryson, a very popular american author who keeps us brits amused for hours with his experiences of living in england.this is bill's account of his first ever attempt to play soccer:.
"i had watched football (soccer) on tv and i thought i had a fair idea of what was required, so when one of the team lofted a ball in my direction, i decided to flick it casually into the net with my head, the way i had seen kevin keegan do it.

What did you miss the most while being a kid in the Borg?
by Jessica Rabbit inthe other day i was watching "charlie's angel's" (the weekly series from the '70's) on tvland.
it dawned on me how much i used to wish they had aired that show any night but thursdays.
maybe twice a year, if i was too sick to go to the meeting i would get my hour to watch my favorite star...farrah!

I agree Blondie......
I would sneak and watch ThunderCats and Transformers, HeMan and SheRA. Boy... If i got caught, there would have been hell to pay!
I missed a lot of cool movies that I now have to catch up on. My husband is always like "what! you've never seen The Exorcist?" and im like "uhhh no, I was in the borg, so i thought if i watched it i would get possessed by the deeeeemeeenz!"
I couldnt go to any school dances or to my prom and i couldnt even be a camp counselor (still bitter at the last one)
I would walk home from school and dread it if a boy was walking the same direction and started talking to me, because i would be so scared that JW's from my cong would drive by, see me and express "concern" to my parents at the meeting that night that I was engaging in bad association. *heavy sigh*
typing this makes me realized how much i missed
