I talk in my sleep too - like darkuncle - only for me it's French, sometimes asstd. nonsense in English (there's a dog on the roof!) and sometimes I laugh or giggle if I'm a good mood. I tend to get really warm sleeping with someone else, too - wake up kind of overheated and it keeps me from sleeping really well. Of course, that wakes up the other person.

Why I may not be able to sleep with anyone again
by ballistic inalong with finding my favorite arm-chair and coffee mug, growing (slightly) older has brought on some curious sleeping habits.. for some time now, i have been in the habit of positioning four pillows in the shape of an arrow and sleeping with my head nestled in the middle supporting shoulders, on my back, with arms and legs stretched out across the whole bed (like a star-fish).
i also have a king size quilt which i use all of.
there is now even a slight dip in the centre of the bed where i sleep in the middle.. has any other single people got any curious habits they would find difficult to give up?

Platonic Friendships....
by diamondblue1974 inthere are some conflicting views on this subject; when i was a teenage jw i was friends with someone of the opposite sex and we were the best of mates...nothing sexual, no attraction in that department at all but it was frowned upon by those in the congregation (as you can probably imagine).. my ex wife never believed a man and woman could be just platonic...hence no longer with her...but..now being somewhat older (and a teeny bit wiser .
what do you think though, do you think a man and woman can be just friends and more importantly has this view been changed since leaving the jw's?.

As a dub, I did think that sex would always be an issue. But now I have a number of male friends I adore but I would never, ever want to sleep with any of them. I didn't think that could be possible, but it is.

I decided to go back to school and ditched my god-awful job in the middle of the night. Then I started working nights doing janitorial b/c it worked with my school schedule, but god it was hell. I'd go to the bookstore and study/sleep till they closed at 11, then force myself to go to work.
One Monday I get a call from a mental-health services agency that I'd applied for prior to getting the first job I mentioned (the one I ditched). They'd hired someone else but she'd quit. I looked at my computer and out of the dozens of cover letters I'd sent out, this was the only one I'd saved. I went in for an interview that day, armed with the knowledge of exactly the spin I'd put on my work & school history in the letter I'd sent previously.
Tuesday I was at the bookstore and had my legs over the side of the chair I was in. I fell asleep (I would be lucky to sleep for 2-3 hours during the night, so I was constantly falling asleep anytime I dared to sit down) and an employee woke me up when they were closing. I stood up - both my legs had gone to sleep, and I fell. Half-asleep and embarrassed, I tried to stand up again, fell again, and this time there was a loud "crack." My foot was broken, and badly. I quit my janitorial job that night (can't mop if you can't walk, you know?).
The next day I was offered the job at the mental-health agency. They were thrilled that I could start right away b/c the 2-week notice I would have given my other job wasn't an issue since my foot was broken.
I've been there now since October of 2003. It is, bar none, the best job I could ever have dreamed of. I love it! My boss is amazing, my co-workers are great, I have almost complete autonomy when it comes to my schedule and how I manage my responsibilities. Oh, and I'm a Psych major, so not only am I lucky to be working in the Psych field but I've been given permission to publish our programs results as a research study for an undergrad competition.
Jehovah provides! (Oh, um, wait, I hadn't been going to meetings for a year at that point...okay, better rethink this one...)

Squinks, your comment, "I think I am afraid to make deep friendships" is so true among the witnesses. How many have experienced so-called friendship/s and then when you slip and fall short of the glory of God, they cast you away?

I've thought similar things fairly often of late. I was having a bad night last night and trying to explain this exact thing to my husband, and the thing is that as a witness you almost lose the ability to connect. It's not so much a conscious decision. I have great friends but, at the same time, I do keep a distance that if they walked away tomorrow and never looked back, I'd be okay, probably think "hmm, okay, thats odd" but I'd be fine. And it's not about not being open or perhaps even trying to establish a connection; you just have just shut down at some point and like I said, it's not a conscious decision. I think it might sound harsh that people who I share my life with, dear friends, that I just can't feel emotion towards them - respect, admiration, desire for their happiness, worry for them, those things yes - but that actual point where it crosses the threshold of needing them, it just doesn't happen. My husband says that if I don't learn how - insert poetic waxing here about giving up fear and living despite being vulnerable etc etc - I will never feel whole.
But really, how would you choose to "make a deep friendship" as the quote says above? And I just don't think it's about sharing activities or stories about your past or even about what you think might be nice for the future. I do all those things, pretty open, but the actual caring just is like a switch that has been turned off. It's cliche I suppose to say "well my parents don't love me and my witness friends don't talk to me" blah blah blah, we can all commiserate about how much we've been hurt, but I've never had all of that get me anywhere - not that I don't revert to it on occasion.
So hmm, what makes a deep friendship come into being? And if it does, how do you stop yourself from destroying it? You know, the inevitable "this is going to end badly so I will just end it now b/c the waiting is almost worse."
Back to the original "living or existing" question - it varies for me. I think it does for everyone.

Saw my JW parents yesterday. Dad not doing well. Neither am I!

This is actually pretty damn hilarious - they pulled the same crap with the "donation arrangement." Basically, see a way to make money/save money/avoid taxes, whatever, it's always money in the end, and then conjure up a scriptural, Biblical, "this is Jehovah's channel" line of reasoning to cover over the money issue. Next, pat yourself on the back as the poor confused "sheep" fall all over themselves trying to believe you. Wow, I think somebody's getting off on this!

Don't make this a womans issue. She is a lawyer who did what she could and broke the law and putting the national security of this country in jeapardy for her client (and ultimately, money).
Fair enough. I just made the connection in my mind between her and the women I'd read about who risked their freedom to run drugs for these men in South America b/c they thought they were in love. And maybe she did risk national security for money, but I would be surprised if she wasn't somewhat taken by this man. I mean, she had to have known she was gonna get in trouble. Really, she's a lawyer, unless she just thought she was so smart she could beat anything. She was blatent about her behavior, and that speaks to me of a feeling behind it that is stronger than money.
