Are "Apostates" Running The Watchtower??Of course. The watchtower was born when Russell and others apostosized from their former religions. Their "preaching work" was their way of asking others to turn their backs on established religions to join the cult. They apostosize against their own teachings every time they turn their backs on "current truth" in favor of "new light".

I learned how to hate. With the constant emphasis on "hating what is bad" and "abhoring what is wicked" a person eventually is taught to hate everything aside from the watchtower. "Worldly" people are considered "bird food". All "worldly" organizations are thought to be controlled by Satan. So if someone "worldly" pissed you off you remembered that one day they would be "as manure on the surface of the ground."
After leaving I learned to stop hating and I began to appreciate the differences in people instead of condemning them.

i finally started reading ray franz book and was reading the part how he ends up with little to no money, buying a trailer in ms. i thought about my own mother, who sacrificed a lot in the name of the "truth" meaning she only worked part time jobs so that she could pioneer, she didn't accumulate money or buy herself a nice house, she continued to believe and still does that armeggedon is around the corner.. some of these people have literally sacrificed their whole lives.
at this point they may or may not come to the realization that armeggedon isn't coming.
whether they are still waiting for it or not, many of them have gotten old and they may not have paid a lot into social security, they may have a very limited income, may live in trailers or whatever.
I bought in to the "armageddon's just around the corner" crap for the first 7 years I was a JW, but not later. I used to think since Jesus didn't "know the day or hour", then how could the watchtower? So I started working full time and furthering my career, and planning for retirement.
I think people are mostly responsible for their own choices. I think most JWs are aware that the society has had to cover its ass revise its expectations a number of times, and should know it would could happen again. They should plan accordingly. One way to do this is to follow the example of the presiding overseer?. I've never seen one who didn't live well. And I've never seen one who was a pioneer?. They all had full time jobs, owned their own homes, and vacationed in the tropics at least twice a year.

i haven't started a thread in some time but this is something that has got me thinking.
i want to know if i'm off-base here or if others have noticed this too.is.. over the last several months (perhaps 6-9) i feel that the tone of the wts and kms have been very strong.
not strong in the sense of legalistic do's and don'ts but strong in the sense of do more!!!!
Problem is most people either resent it or just miss the meeting because no one wants to hang around longer than they have to.
I started resenting the goodie nights. Since the book study? was in my house I usually had to provide most of the refreshments. The few things people did bring were often old, stale, or just plain awful, so as to make me gag. (it takes a lot to make me gag). There was one sister? who did bring really good stuff though. And of course, there are the people who came to the BS only on goodie nights, or those from other BS groups who would crash the goodie night because they wanted some free food. These always came empty handed. Then some kid would puke on my couch or carpet, and of course, the parents would make no effort to wipe it up. Nor would they offer to replace any items their screaming brats broke.
And, of course, most of the people there wouldn't bother talking to me anyway. The hens cackled with one another about the latest congregational gossip. The young up-and-coming brothers? spent most of their time sucking up to the elder?. I'd eventually make my way to the other room where my computers resided.
The day I threw out the book study? was one of the happiest days of my life.

i was in nassau sitting on the beach, sipping a 151 pina colada, watching the jet-ski guy, all toned and tanned.
i remember thinking, he's got the coolest job in the world ... sittting on the beach all day, renting & teaching drunk & horny tourists how to ride them.

to be a "good roman catholic" you have to be "cultic", that's for sure!
their beliefs and practices, rites and ceremonies are simply weird!
I think it depends on the individual. In any group you'll find some who are given to extremes. I was a catholic before I was a JW, and to most it was just a sunday religion. Then there are the fanatics, like my sister who is trying to convert me back to catholicism. She lives and breathes her religion, worse than any JW I ever met.

tonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.
the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.
through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.
Men make gods in their own image.
I disagree. The gods are usually much worse.
