I remember when I was about 12 years old being sent with another girl my age to a rooming house full of men. We knocked on two doors and then fled the building. When the elder asked if we did that house, we nodded...sure we did. What we never told anyone was that at the second door the man who answered was stark naked. If they knew we just left they would have made us go back into that rooming house to finish it.

Door to Door Risk Factors?
by Outaservice inif you had, say, a daughter around 11 or 12 years old, would you let her go door to door with a friend also that age?
with all the strange people out there, is the watchtower society contributing to dangerous situations with their manner of preaching?
at least, the mormon's go two by two with young men.. some large cities have apartments up dark stairways and many neighborhoods are not even safe during daylight hours.. outaservice .

I love it here in the Adirondacks. The nearest McDonald's is a 45 mile ride; a trip to the mall means an all-day event since it's about 65 miles away. I love the remoteness, the quiet, the wildlife. Winters are not so bad, even though it gets down to -40F for a few weeks in January. It can snow for days at a time. The air is clean, life is laid back, and I wouldn't trade it for any where else. (ok...ok...so maybe I dream of Aruba when it gets -40F...) Summers are very short so we practically live outdoors during the season, but I feel lucky to live here all year round ( inside the Adirondack Park....6,000,000 acres and a year round population of about 130,000 - plenty of elbow-room)

Field service - the very first time I was about 6 years old. The brother I was with had me give a little sermon at the door. The guy who answered was huge and yelled at me and it was all I could do not to cry. I absolutely hated it and would pray for rain every Saturday... at least no house-to-house.
I hated the idea that we could not asociate with anyone on the outside, and close friendships within the hall were frowned upon, so we (three siblings and I) only had each other when we were growing up. To this day, none of us have any close friends.
I hated being made to feel like a second-rate person just because I'm female.
I hated the clicks that existed and made my family feel like outsiders.
I hated having a talk on the ministry school.
Come to think of it....I can't think of anything I did like about it all...

When the "witless" in charge of the service group sent me, about 12 years old, and another young girl, about 16 years old, into a rooming house full of men, then when we left, asked if we knocked on every single door. We didn't... we were too scared. Fortunately, nothing happened, even though the first door we knocked on, the guy who opened it was in his underwear. After knocking on a few more doors, we huddled in the front hallway for a bit, then left. And never told anyone (well, except my mother who was livid that we were sent in there alone) what we did.

Stop college or keep plugging on?...opinions please.
by FreedomFrog inhere's my situation...i'm doing college online because i can't very well do college the traditional way with a 2 year old.
anyway, my computer has been acting really funny and it's not reliable anymore.
my ex worked on it for almost 4 hours and the darn thing still crashes saying my "virtual" memory is too low.

As difficult as it may, keep plugging away. if you stop for now, it may very, very tough to get back into things again. How about going to a community college for your core classes? I was working full time and did it that way...and took one class every semester in the evenings until I was finished. It took nine years to get through, but I stuck it out. After graduation I transferred to the university and took two courses a semester (had to because of student loans).. it was rough going, but I kept at it. I graduated magna cum laude in 2001 with a BA in English Literature. It was the proudest moment of my life to hear my name announced, walk across the stage and hear my family cheering. It took fourteen years of part time to earn that sheepskin.

May 28th is the 2nd anniversary of my dad's passing. I will be with my family, laughing, crying and sharing memories. I will rub the urn that Dad's ashes are in and tell him how much he's missed, then get extra copies of the local paper to have a copy of the memorial we put in.

Do your burial wishes reflect your inner most beliefs?
by Gregor inthe subject of how ones remains are dealt with, i think, is very revealing of ones core beliefs.
i've heard atheists say that under no circumstances would they want to be cremated.
that, to me, is inconsistent with their proclaimed viewpoint.

I plan on being cremated and half my ashes buried up here with my husband and the rest taken to my home state of Massachusetts to be buried with my family. I don't want my ashes scattered because I need to be somewhere, I need to be in a place. When my dad died in May 2005 he was cremated and mom has his ashes. She wants to be cremated also, and we will bury their ashes together. I will probably be buried with them when the time comes. (not too soon)
