For a long time I endured being ignored, the subtle insults, the outright derogatory comments. I was a good sister...kept quiet, did what was expected. But when a so-called "loving" brother kept telling me that my dad was going to die at Armageddon because he was never a JW, thus reducing me to tears, I had enough. My parents have been married for more than 56 years. My mom became a JW shortly after they married. Even though he never converted, my dad was a hard-worker, supported his family, didn't drink, never ran around with other women, and taught us kids honesty, loyalty, dependability, responsibility and much more just by his example. To have some cretin insist that Dad was not good enough was more than I could handle. I faded away more than twenty years ago, and it still bothers me that someone would say such a thing. I'm not in the borg any longer...and I still have my Dad.

You need to face the fact that you will never grow old
by Elsewhere inmay 22 1969 awake .
"if you are a young person, you need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things.
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... therefore, as a young person, you will never fufill any career that this system offers.

I was 16 in 1969. When I turned 50 this summer, I told my mom that I wasn't supposed to be this old. She didn't know what to say.

by digderidoo in.
i was 15, quite old compared to some.. a friends child has just got baptised at 13.....to think that she knows what she wants for the rest of her life at that age seems ludicrous.. so, who here got baptised at the youngest age?.

March 22, 1969...I'll never forget because my brother was born only two weeks before...I was 15 yrs 8 months old. The PO tried everything he could do to stop it, but didn't have any reason to..he just didn't like my family. He kept cancelling the appointment for the questions and I kept having it rescheduled. Finally, he called again to cancel and I asked why couldn't we do it over the phone..the assembly was just a few week away. He hemmed and hawed, but there was no reason not to. So, we did part of it by phone...and he kept accusing me reading the answers out of the book. No matter what I said, he didn't believe me. He came by our house to finish up the questions the day my mom came home from the hospital.

Do what I did when flying to Aruba a few years ago:
Bring a few magazines with you to read, and the whole time mutter under your breath, "It's a bus, it's a bus, it's a bus, it's a bus...."

I don't remember the name of the song, or who does it (Matthew sombody or other) but the chorus goes:
"Nobody's gonna break my stride,
Nobody's gonna slow me down,
Oh, no...I've got to keep a-moving"

I once sent a b'day card to a younger friend of mine that read:
"May you live to be 120 years old....and may the last voice you hear be mine."
Let's see....I had surgery at age 16 and being a good little dub, refused all blood. The thing was, I had a serious clotting problem and the surgeon told me just before I was wheeled into the operating room that I might not make it through. In the past ten years I've had 4 surgeries for early cancer.
When my husband was 17, he was struck by an 18-wheeler and dragged. He was crushed from the hips down and spent two year in the hospital. He had his first hip replacement at age 19, and in the next year will be getting his fourth hip replacement.
By all counts, neither one of us should be here.
Believe me, every day is a gift.

As a YOUNG loyal JW, did you think you would see you're 60th birthday ?
by run dont walk inwith all the talk in the organization about the end being so close, and we have all heard this story over and over again for years, as a young/loyal jw, did you think you would see your 60th birthday.. if we were to walk into the kingdom hall today and poll all the jw's under 30, and ask them "will you see your 60th birthday", what kind of response would you get ???.
armageddon is not coming, the year 2014 will pass, as will 2025, 2075, 2100, and even 3000. .
would love to hear experiences from some of the older ones on this board, who probaly thought the same thing when they were young.

I turned 50 in July. A few days before, while talking with my mom (active JW) on the phone, she mentioned my age. I blurted out to her that I wasn't supposed to be this old. She sighed, and talked of things that "weren't supposed to happen" because of the end being so close, but she had no explanation for me...and no excuses, either. It was kind of sad that Mom, who has been a JW for more than 50 years, didn't have any answers.

Stupidest thing a JW ever told you
by Nosferatu inwhat is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?
we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.
for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.

An elder pulled me aside once and said that all married women should wear girdles. Being a "good little dub" I bit my tongue... but why was a married man such as he was looking at other women like that?
I began working at the local library and the presiding overseer told me if anyone came in and asked me for a book on abortion, I should not look for it for them. In fact, I would be better off just quitting rather than "hand out" information on drugs, sex, drinking, etc.; if I didn't quit, I would be compromising my spirituality. I faded a few years after this. I finally did leave that job....more than thirty years later!
My dad is not a Witness, yet he's worked hard all his life, honest in all his dealings with others, supported his family, doesn't drink, has been happily married for more than 55 years; yet a "loving" Witless told me once that my dad was not worthy enough to survive Armageddon. Who is he to judge?????? It was that thoughtless comment (along with some other stuff) that pushed me into fading away more than 25 years ago.
