Has anyone here heard from someone who's been to one of the assemblys? A month or so ago the wtr study was really laying it down heavy about accepting new light and not being stumbled about it. The general consensus at my hall was that there must be something big coming out at the assembly. Anyone know if anything did come out in any of the talks?

Local Needs Talk Given About My Family
by minimus inthis week, the local needs talk dealt with showing loyalty to jehovah and his organization.
the account of achan and his family was discussed.
because they did not report what achan had done, the entire family was punished by jehovah with death.

This is sounding more like one of your other threds on why the organisation has so much power over people. They give talks like that so the elders don't have to actually do much, they use the congregation to do the shunning and put the pressure on for them. Except its not just the individual that gets effected, how much pressure would have been on that elders son just to conform and not bring it on his family. Poor lad.

Quick Builds
by Gadget inhas any body any idea how good the workmanship is on quickbuilds?
normally if you get a group of people who don't know about building you get chaos.
i know a few years ago they were changed from 48hrs to 2weekend, something to do with not being able to lay the bricks fast enough, new legislation limiting how many courses could be done in a day.

Does this mean the brickwork might not be right on early quickbuilds, and that they might be dangerous? And how many accidents are there on quickbuilds?

Disfellowshipping
by Gadget inhi, i wonder if someone can give me some information on the disfellowshipping/reinstating process.
i appealed my disfellowshipping and at the appeal hearing they went to deliberate.
they spent 10min on their own, over an hour with the original committee, then 5-10 min on their own again before disfellowshipping me.

I've got a strong reason to go back, my fiance is still a wittness(In another hall). I got DF'd, and she got no further action from her committee{Her dads an elder-very nice bloke). So I'm going to get reinstated because in the meantime we've been stopped from seeing each other. But the elders in my hall really don't like me. I had few problems about 4 years ago, nearly had a breakdown, and went of the rails big time. After I started to get things sorted out a bit I moved halls for a new start, but I still had a lot of emotional bagage. I buried myself in my work, where I've got to be observant, think carefully about situations and challange inappropriate behaviour. Made a few enemies acting like this in the hall, pointing things out to elders. This has left me as a "bad associate" for the last few years, even though most in the hall, apart from elders, like me and disagree. So this is all things I need to get cleared up if I want to get reinstated and carry on my relationship, and I'd like some advice on the best way to get round the elders if possible. Knowledge is power.

They spent 10min on their own, over an hour with the original committee, then 5-10 min on their own again before disfellowshipping me. Is this normal? In the elders manual I downloaded(Thanks for the link!) it said they should deliberate seperately, only calling either of us in if more testimony was required. Why would they have spent so much time with the original committee? Any ideas?
And what about reinstating? Is crying in the hearing a requirement for showing repentance? What if your known for not normally showing if your feeling emotional? And does appealing the original decision go against you when applying to be reinstated?
Cheers.

Inquiryman, why do you think people will be put off because of various viewpoints being tolerated? Is that not why some people come here, to look at various viewpoints they can't hear from other places (Like in the congregation), take these on board and make their own mind up. People do have a lot of different viewpoints, its part of not being under mind control.

Hi from a fellow newby!
How did it feel getting reinstated then stopping going straight away? Was it not weird sitting in the committee to get reinstated knowing what you were saying wasn't what you thought? I'm DF'd, but my fiance isn't(Elders daughter...) so I've got the choice of getting reinstated or leaving her. so if you've got any advice on getting reinstated I'd appreciate it. Cheers.

The Power Of The Organization
by minimus in.
what do you think makes the organization so powerful in the lives of people??
?

Just think about how big a part the organisation has in peoples lives. People are brought up in it, all their family are in it, all their friends are in it, they may work with people in it. So if they don't completely follow the organisation, They stand to lose virtually every single thing that they have. Most people wouldn't risk that, and you can spot them a mile off in any kingdom hall you go in.

I think a big thig for me, as a lurker, is how the arguments are presented. A lot of people have had bad experiences which make them feel very strongly about stuff, but if you go spouting off people are just going to turn off. I came here because I looked around, and still am, and saw so much hypocrasy and wanted to know what was really going on, FACTS not just how people feel. When you've been associated with something for a long time you automaticaly follow the rules, no matter what you really think. So if they hear someone spouting off they think "Its apostate, I can't read that", but if its just facts they'll read it, think on it and come back for more. Remember all that logical coherant devolopement stuff they taught you int the TMS?

Thats an interesting point about Achens family being destroyed for not reporting his wrong doing.
How many elders children do you know that have had their things covered up....
Does this mean a load of elders are going to be destroyed soon?
