for a while, i've sort of been wondering why i always check in with this board... i mean it's filled with great people of course - and is my only link to what's happening in the jw world, but i shouldn't care that much... i'm not a jw, neither is my husband - it's only his batshit crazy family who are and it shouldn't bother me that much.. however it does interfere with my life and when i'm around them, they do somehow manage to make me feel like crap.
i think it's all mad and they are most definitely stuck in a cult, however my husband - who grew up as a jw just sort of shrugs his shoulders and is a bit 'it is what it is' - it doesn't seem to offend him as much as it does me.... every time that i hear about a new change or scandal on here, i think 'surely this will be what wakes them up'!

We made fun of Jim and Tammy Faye and the Fake Judge was driving two cars worth $160,000 (present day dollar valuation) while families were standing in Soup Lines. These are cars men like JP Morgan, rich Old Money were driving, not some punk ass Con Man Religious Hack!
The Judge built a Mansion and bragged on Print, JWs sold their farms and homes Pre-1925 and lived in Tent-Cars while Joe Blow Rutherford was living like a god!
Think of the old Gallo Wine Commerical, "We Will Sell No Wine Before It's Time", that's how it works with JWs. Nobody is going to realize it's the Long Con until they realize there is "loving brotherhood", people at the Kingdom Halls are self-serving and users. Elders and their wives share Judicial Confidential Matters with the entire family.
I meet another JW who left the Organization years ago, we reconnected and it took him five years from his first major doubt-shocker before the Fade began. You would think being a very special pioneer would merit much attention and "love bombing", nope! They allowed him to leave without any fuss.

The court yesterday heard how respected Jehovah's Witness Sewell used his "position of power" as an elder in the Barry congregation to "exploit and abuse" women and children for more than 10 years.
Ms Waters told the jury of eight women and four men in her opening address: "He is a sexual predator that took opportunities available to him to satisfy his sexual desires."
Between 1985 and 1995 Sewell is alleged to have abused two young girls and also raped a woman, all of whom were fellow Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is also accused of indecently assaulting another woman by rubbing his groin against her as she made a cup of tea."

Ok, now I know why you atheists get so spittin' mad at some believers.
by Julia Orwell incuz they feel like they're banging their heads against a wall.. i don't really fall into the category of atheist or believer, but i'll go where the facts lead me.
that generally leads to atheism, and is why atheists end up getting mad and therefore rude at believers: they will lay out facts, raise questions, play devil's advocate, and reason in an evidence-based, structured way.
i've seen it many times before on this forum.

Julia, I appreciate your explanation, but in terms of logic, your original post did make it's own hasty generalization. There are atheists as well that can't make a reasonable argument and refer back to generalizations and emotional (usually suggesting higher intelligence on their part) claims on their own part, starting that circular reasoning we all despise.
Many can be said to not even truly know what they believe as an atheists, not even knowing the scientists that speciaization in explaining it to the masses. They see it as an alternative to religion, yet not able to reason out their beliefs. It goes both ways.
