I hereby call on ALL nations in Africa, and ALL warring factions, to immediately cease all violence. They can then put ALL their efforts into fighting the Ebola threat. Why should the 'world community' try to solve this while Africans refuse to step up and do proactive things to contain the epidemic? The African people must stop believing in witch doctors and tribal cures, and listen to and work with doctors and aid workers. Just having the US send in troops won't be effective unless the African people cooperate and do their part. I'm waiting to see when/if this will happen.

EBOLA -why should America take the lead in handling it?
by hamsterbait inmillions have died in africa from civil wars where the governments have squandered money on bombs guns and tanks, whilst allowing millions more to die of malaria, diarrhoea and other treatable diseases.
thousands more have died in nigeria from religious killing than ebola.. and now big bad america is the one they all turn to (in mainly muslim countries) to save them, just like kuwait did in 1991.
(condemned after for their interference).

JWIN QUESTION: No, I didn't at all find your comments about gays offensive. My reply was simply to respond to the various points raised by responders concerning gay people. I appreciate your post and of course you are totally right in expressing your views. I would HOPE that people here would at least get to know a few gay people in person before generalizing about them. Of all the current problems in the world right now, it would seem that loving same-sex adults getting married is the least of our worries. Anyway, I did appreciate your post and I hope you find the answers to your various concerns. Best wishes.

As a man who, among MANY other things, happens to be gay, I have a few points to make. First of all, gay people aren't what they 'do', it's who they ARE. I was attracted to other males at age 12, long before I 'did' anything with another man. It seems to a lot of Christians see a gay couple and IMMEDIATELY start obsessing about 'what they do in bed', but when they see a straight couple, do they right away think 'what do they do in the bedroom'??? Gay people lead varied and productive lives, so why obsess only about their sex life?? As for gay marriage, which is more harmful to the 'traditional marriage', same -sex marriage or heterosexual divorce especially when children are involved?? Why can a straight triple murderer in prison get Married with no objections from the anti-gay -marriage crowd, yet when two loving gay adults want to exact same right they are denied it. The ability to have offspring has NOTHING to do with having the right to get married. Last time I looked, straight couples aren't required to take a 'fertility test' before being allowed to marry. The ultimate point is that the US Constitution doesn't allow for one set of laws for heterosexuals and a different set of laws for homosexuals. Isn't one of our founding principles the phrase: 'ALL men ( and women) are created EQUAL'?? Please think about these points the next time you decide to criticize gay people who only want the same rights as everybody else.

What's "THE END" going to look like?
by Coded Logic inokay, so its no secret that many of us are hoping to see the downfall of the wtbts (or at least a mass exodous of jws away from them anyway).
i was wondering if you had any thoughts on what this might look like?.
we all know that most every jw has their doubts, large and small, but is afraid to speak due to the illusion of unanimity and self censorship .

I think that the GB will eventually make the mistake of issuing some doctrine or rule that is so harsh and unreasonable that even the most brainwashed followers will rebel. After that, the genie will be out of the bottle and can't be put back in. JWs will suddenly see the Organization as just another oppressive man-made racket. Once this happens, the JWs will spiral downhill quickly, except in the most backward areas. This will happen, it's just a matter of WHEN. If the GB are given enough rope, they will hang themselves.

WHY are so many "spiritual" young men in the congo soo insipid?
by hamsterbait inthe last gathering i went to, i was impressed by how submissive and compliant the young men were.
more like sweet little old ladies (not knocking old women here).
they were socially inept, and non-assertive.

REAL Men ( and Women ) think for themselves and have well thought-out opinions. Their 'spirituality' is a result of independent study and critical thinking. As for the JWs, they are actually the LEAST spiritual people I have ever been around. They only discuss boring, inane topics because they are scared of expressing an independent opinion on anything. They give their minds and personalities over to a faceless group of old men in New York. Whatever drivel is published in the Watchtower is uncritically swallowed by the Witnesses. No thought necessary. That is the exact opposite of being a normal, functioning, adult member of society. So that is why JW men and women seem so socially and spiritually inept.

1200 requests for bible study a day

Your local phone book is a great source of requests for Bible Studies. Be sure to include the addresses of your local churches, businesses, taverns, strip clubs, adult stores, etc. The more JW resources we can waste, the better.

GB Gerrit Losch and his questionable article in the 7/14 WT study edition!!!
by ADJUSTMENTS inin this article gerrit talks about his father in the first and last paragraphs, what he says about him and his hope for him goes against all that witnesses have preached about the worldly for the last 100 years... as i recall aren't all the worldly supposed to be destroyed and never have a hope of everlasting life like jw's are, and isn't that the purpose of the preaching work to baptize and warn the worldly of this???
if not why do jws even preach, or even become jws in the first place if all have a hope of everlasting life, jw and non-jw, are they releasing a little hint at new light to come???
or am i just missing or over analyzing something?.

This is all a very nice fantasy, but 'living forever' is just a pipe dream. We are no more 'immortal' than a tree, a bird or a dog. They live for a while, experience life, and then they die and are gone forever. The same goes for humans. I guess a large percentage of people cannot face this reality so they use Magical Thinking to dream up stories about living 'forever' in Paradise. This has been going on at least since Ancient Egyptian times, but the names and faces of the 'gods' change depending on the culture at the time. So quit worrying about what happens when you die. Life your life to the fullest NOW.

Today's WT study!. Watch out for the "wicked" in the cong!
by stuckinarut2 inhow strange today's study was!.
warning examples of apostacy, and saying to all witnesses "watch for bad associations in the cong".
talk about paranoia and distrust amongst themselves!.

When I was studying about six years ago and attending meetings, an elder gave a similar talk. I told my study conductor that I didn't like the idea of having to 'judge' the worthiness of others in the congregation. Weren't we supposed to all be one happy family?? He seemed to understand my concerns. But obviously that paranoid way of viewing others is still being promoted by the GB. Maybe this suspiciousness will cause more JWs to see the light and get out. This is just another way that the GB are circling the wagons to root out any independent thinking among the R & F.

jesus' appearances in the modern world.
of particular interest are instances in which jesus is said to have appeared to entire groups of people, rather than just to an individual.

There is no end to the gullibility of religious types. They are masters at Magical Thinking. Even if something makes no sense, a certain portion of believers will fall for it.

The frustration of talking to a person with a closed mind
by TheStumbler inokay, this is going to be a bit of a general rant.
i had a long conversation with a jw elder recently about shunning and evolution.
i became qunite frustrated with the conversation and admitted this at the time.

Next time, just ask him: 'Where exactly do Neanderthals fit into your view of Man's creation???'. Of course he will give some totally prefab, know-nothing answer. No thinking involved. Beyond asking that, why waste your time on him??
