The fear of apostasy within was probably behind the ban of bible studies in the privacy of the homes with a small group of elders at the end of 1980's. WT was probably afraid that JW will find out something that does not match with official teaching from Brooklyn.

The Apostasy Within
by Ultimate Axiom inin the latest watchtower (july 15, 2014, page 14, paragraph 10) it says; today, jehovahs people are not often confronted with apostasy within the congregation.
still, when exposed to unscriptural teachings, regardless of the source, we must decisively reject them.. so, not often, but occasionally jws are exposed to apostasy within the congregation, and they are instructed to decisively reject it.
as we all know, the vast majority of the apostasy they are exposed to comes from the governing body.. i am meeting up soon with an old friend from the 1970s who i havent seen for decades, who is still an active jw, and who would really like to hear what i think about things.

None of the points are there for me. As other had said, there is an anger. My family is in, and I lost 20 years of having closer relationship with sibling, nieces and nephews, my mom married in truth after my biological father left and died. Something cannot be ever taken back nor fixed.

Does Christianity Need The Bible
by Mat inchristianity began it's formation without the bible.
the bible, as we know it, is a collection of what were very old texts when they were assembled by christian leaders in the late second and third centuries because they were deemed to be inspired by god.. whether they really were inspired by god or not is now open to debate, but should they prove to not be, it should not undermine christianity as an establishment.. discuss......

Sarah, my relatives only know what is told in WT and Awake. They will look into bible only when required with selective text in the publication. They will never read bible from cover to cover. If I mention that is something written in bible they will first look in publication before they will open bible. When I was visiting them last summer, I had regular newspaper where there was a nice article about Jesus and [promiscous] Samaritan woman at the well. This is one the most known story of NT, yet my JW relatives were absolutely clueless that it was in John 4. It is probably a story that WT rather not to mention because it involves Jesus who did not condemned woman who was in concubine relationship with another man. WT utilizes only small portion of Scriptures, mostly related to doomsday scenario and this is sufficient for the masses of WT followers.

Want to know why people accept evolution ?
by snare&racket indo you have questions about or want to understand evolution?
it is a difficult concept to communicate and so if it is not explained well , it is understandable that we would dismiss it.. i sincerely want to talk with people who want to learn more or see what all the fuss is about.
we are all learning and increasing our knowledge all the time and it is good to go over facts with critical eye.. evolution we can discuss, looking at the foundational facts and evidence, one at a time for you to go and check, agree or disagree with and return.. no pressure to accept it, you can decide for yourself, also no mocking etc of what you have to say.. .

I am not sure if mammoth huntres lived in Northern America, but they were widespread in Europe during interglaciar period. In Central Europe there are three major sites which were excavated where some graves had tools made from mammoth tusks. The most famous discovery is Venuse of Willensdorf, but there are dozen others discovered similar prehestoric madonnas from Austria to Ukraine. What made interesting that the integraciar warming period was between 20,000-32,000 BC where warmer weather allowed roaring large mammals like mammoths and saber-toothed cats. The population disappeared again for several thousands years when returning glacier made most of the central Europe inhospitable. All large mammals disappeared and never returned. Last glaciers had melted about 12,000 years ago and new flora evolved that we have today.

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

Scully, I believe there are several issues with cashflow for WT and the people at the apex of the organization. The wealthy states like USA, Germany, and Japan see stagnant membership, even declining one. Overall the witnesses had grayed out as the western world is aging. However, many JW over 60 do not have whatsoever money, property, savings, and retirement as they did not expect to age and die. This demographic cannot support lavish lifestyle of DO and others who in Czech Republic ride Audis, BMW, and Mercedes. Younger people are less interested joining obscure cult and many children and grandchildren of JW had not joined the faith of their ancestor. WT can bet on growth in 3rd world countries, but there is not sufficient money flow to support expensive lifestyle in USA, Germany, Switzerland or UK.
I heard from my relatives that there were cases when JW willed their estate to the WT. I am not sure how much is this truthfull, but I hear from my siblings, parents and others that the demand for money is turning into extortion.

I heard the same issue from my parents in Czech Republic. They were asked to increase donations, etc, while the number of JW is the same past 20 years and WT used to own properties around Prague. Bethel in Prague was closed couple years ago.

Humans are around more than 7000 years. There was already 1-2 million of people around 10000 BC. There are graves left in Central Europe during the interglaciar periods which are known as a Mammoth hunters. The receding glaciers enabled spreading of population into Central Europe around 28000BC only to be pushed by returning glacier that melted away again around 10000 BC. The back to back glaciation left significant changes on the landscape, flora, and distribution of large animals like mommoths and saber-toothed cats are well documented.

Shunning now applies to non-jw relatives of apostates...
by Julia Orwell inapparently.
my never-a-jw mother was at the shops with my never-a-jw 5 year old niece today and saw some jws she's known loosely for years as they were friends of mine.
she'd even taught the teenaged girl among them.

My JW aunt shunned her grandchildren when my cousin walked away from the >Truth<. She was proud doing it because she considered his offspring as children of Satan who would weaken her faith. She pretty much died without knowing them.

Sarah, some JW never read bible from beginning to end, but they read everything in Watchtower and Awake.
