Londo, so what was 1874, 1878, and 1881? It is hard to follow all this non-sense:

Call to mind that the Scriptures showed us that the full end of Gentile power in the world, and of the time of trouble which brings its overthrow, will follow the end of A.D. 1914, and that some time near that date the last members of the Church of Christ will have been "changed," glorified.
Remember, too, that the Scriptures proved to us in various ways--by the Jubilee Cycles, the 1335 days of Daniel, the Parallel Dispensations, etc.--that the "harvest" or end of this age was due to begin in October, 1874, and that the Great Reaper was then due to be present; that seven
years later--in October, 1881--the "high calling" ceased, though some will be admitted to the same favors afterward, without a general call being made, to fill the places of some of the called ones who, on being tested, will be found unworthy.

It seems Russell just continues pick various dates and years and combined into his nonsense later accepted by WT as a proof that 1914 was the beginning of the end.

Burial laws and regulations varies by countries. For example in former Austrain monarchy, which includes present Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Austria among others, all inner cities burials were forbidden after 1784 with exception of Jewish cemeteries. With a few rural cemeteries, all Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, and Austrian cemeteries are the most 200 years old. Additionally, the burial space is rented, never owned and must be paid every 20 years. Once the descendants die and do not pay the burial plot, the site is reused and rented to different family. Therefore, many families attempt to keep the same plot over generations. We have ours for five or six generations since the 1800's. I has seen elders making speeches on funeral, but they were held in memorial halls in cemetery. There were also open casket funerals. I am not sure how is it in UK or USA, but in Central Europe cremation is highly popular and choosen by majority of JW. My JW aunt was cremated her ashes were scattered around her house or so (I did not go to her funeral).

When I look into the Russell's writting, he wrote that Gentile Times ended in 1799 when Napoleon stormed Rome and took a Pope as a prisoner.

The subject of special condemnation in this regard, the masterpiece of Satan, is the old Roman Empire, still living in the Papacy and the Church-State governments of Europe. This system is about contemporaneous with the (seven) Times of the Gentiles (2520 years ending in Oct, 1914), which began in the Fall of 607 B. C., or, as we would say, at the beginning of 606, Jewish Time. Rome was already well started on its upward path at that time.

We could not, of course, know in 1889, whether the date 1914, so clearly marked in the Bible as the end of the Gentile lease of power or permission to rule the world, would mean that they would be fully out of power at that time, or whether, their lease expiring, their eviction would begin. The latter we perceive to be the Lord's program; and promptly in August, 1914, the Gentile kingdoms referred to in the prophecy began the present great struggle, which, according to the Bible, will culminate in the complete overthrow of all human government, opening the way for the full establishment of the Kingdom of God's dear Son.

Additionally, Russell came to 1878 by adding 33 years to 1845. If you really looking into crazies of the WT, you can add, substruct, multiple and divide various years to get to whatever date is WT comfortable with and make it as a proof of their guidance of the Holy Spirit. Entire book volume Studies of the Scripture is full of various calculation and multiplication to proof something. Even Austria-Hungary that disintegrated 96 years ago is identified as 10 horn.

i would like some advice from those that are inpartial, and are familiar with the teachings of jw.

i studied with a wonderful jw couple weekly for 3 years.

LisaRose, you are so correct. I also remember around 1990 when we had CA overseer that make small speach how Armageddon is about to happen becaue the annoited felt that something was happening the heaven and saw angles alarmed. I had afterward long private discussion with son of the elder who walked away around the same time as I did, and he was shaking his head on such nonsense. My evil JW aunt that dragged my family into WT used to say the same that Armageddon is just happening around us, and the end was imminent. I remember hearing it as child in the 70's, teen in the 80's and hear it from my relatives as adult 40 year later. And for life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday, and people age and die, and no big "A" is happening in their lifes.

Yeah, AnnOmally ignore these posts, as he/she/it is mentally challenged and do add anything into the posts.

Heaven, I remember this WT and this is the most synonymous for me as false teaching of JW and confirmation that this religion does not have truth nor are guided by Holy Spirit. Every JW should recieve this old WT. Speaking on my behalf, this WT publication helped me to walk away ten years later after it was published and I had not looked back for 20 years.

Problem with 1914 is that it is invented by JW and they wrap various biblical prophecies around it. In 1914 they believed that the reign started in 1874 or 1878, and time of the end stated in 1799. It was much later, in the 1930's when Rutherford decided to make the 1914 as year of Jesus invisible presence and JW modeled their entire doctrine on that year. There is nowhere in Daniel indication that Jesus would return in that specific year. Russell considered the return to be calculated from the temporarty conquest of Rome by Justinian in 539 and 1260 years later coincided with Napoleon taking a Pope as a prisoner.

How many in the cong visited you when you started fading

i'm just curious speaking from a person who has stopped going to meetings.

i have heard reports from inactive ones (or from ones who the elders suspect of going to the dark side) of having so many visits from elders (cong members) that it got to the point of harassment.

surprisingly i have to say from personal experience and from numerous others that i have spoken to that the exact opposite has been the case.

Julia, you are lucky. I know at least in my native country that faded JW do not get visited. Even irregular do not get visited. We used to have elderly sister in KH that did not showed for some time when someone decided to visit her. She was long dead and buried on city expenses because she did not have any relatives. I still remember JW speculating if she died in faith or she faded and DA; therefore, not eligible for resurrection.

The same division happened in former Yugoslavia. I was there before the war and during and remember in 1990 when I sit with bunch of Yugoslavs at the garden bar at the corso about the ongoing crisis there and one Yugoslav guy told me that they will not fight each other, because they are all Slavs. Year later, entire country was engulfed in war and neighbor shot neighbor over the fence.

i'm just curious speaking from a person who has stopped going to meetings.

i have heard reports from inactive ones (or from ones who the elders suspect of going to the dark side) of having so many visits from elders (cong members) that it got to the point of harassment.

surprisingly i have to say from personal experience and from numerous others that i have spoken to that the exact opposite has been the case.
