  well i'm pretty dang sure that the lady was giving from the heart not because she filled out some dumba$$ piece of paper pledging two small coins several months previous!.

  Stuckinarut - This is very real. It will happen in all US Congs in the coming weeks that have a paid-for hall.

  The congs that have a note already to the branch will be expected to send an amount that is above their current payment but will prob be decided by the elders.

  This slip thing is for congs with paid-for halls to come up with an amount they will commit to sending each month to the branch.

  They are creating a guilt induced obligation that serves as a predetermined monthly revenue stream to the branch.

  We are passing the slips out this week in our hall. All family heads will be expected to write down a number they are willing to commit to giving each month to the branch for Kingdom Hall construction/renovation/maintenance.

  But seriously, lets not fool ourselves here. They only need a 2/3 vote to change doctrine. That's all you need to know.

  That means right now there are members of the GB that are technically apostates. It's a sham.

  Ocean1111 is right on the money. It will be fun to watch the ship sink.

  Ocean1111 - You make a good point.

  Many on this forum have speculated that the pedophilia lawsuits are mounting and will eventually topple the org.

  It does seem as if the org lawyers have told them its time to liquidate and get the money as far out of reach as possible.

  It would also explain the sudden desire to milk the cow with this new pledge/tithe thing. It's like they are getting all they can as fast as they can.

  Something is on the horizon - and it ain't Armegeddon.

  i find it interesting that the wt is boasting about the 100 year anniversary of the kingdom in 2014, but i have never seen an explanation on how they calculate it.

  i know how to get to 1914 using the bible (ezekiel, revelation, daniel, jeremiah).

  in fact, i know all the messy stuff behind it, such as 606 bce, 537 bce, mishandling of no-zero year in the calendar, 536 bce instead of 539 bce, etc.. what i am wondering is when was the last time the wt wrote an article in the wt magazine to explain in the weekly meeting how to calculate 1914. if this year is so important, one would expect an explanation in a regular basis, but i have not seen it yet.

  I agree. I guess it's too messy for them to deal with anymore.

  It's a dumbed down version of the religion today. The meetings are like a broken record.

  I think a lot of their wealth has come from guilt-tripped last will and testaments also.

  This new arrangement is trying to pull more out of the "regular folks" which it will.

  We are seeing JW history in the making

  with all the current changes and downsizing, the 1914 "anchor date" appears to be drifting out to sea.

  yes, i know the gb is putting all of their chips on 1914 but if you stop and think about it for a moment.. we are seeing jw history in the making for the next jw generation of 2114.. first they teach a date as significant.second, when it becomes obsolete, they come up with a convoluted explanation of how it really was significant, just not in the way "some believers" once taught.third, it becomes a historical footnote, as in: "bible students at one time thought... but now we see... evidently... .

  the next generation of jws (100 years from today) will be talking about 2014 as the year of great expectation, and how close the end is in 2114. yes, when jesus spoke about this generation evidently he was talking in a symbolic way, and he was truly referring to the generation class.. .

  Yeah it will go the way of the Bible Students - fade to obscurity.

  They will pump up numbers to keep breathing life into the "growth" claims as long as possible, but eventually the tricks won't hide the facts.

  The apathy is already present and being covered up with rampant anti-depressant/anti-anxiety meds. (at least in the States)

  That is probably why they are looking to cash $$$ in so much lately - to milk the cow before it's gone.

  I wonder though if there will be a spinoff again like before?

  Laika... the slips will be anonymous. We haven't met on how it will go down yet.

  I assume everyone gets a slip and then drops it in the "time" box or something.

  Our hall is paid for so we will be going down this road.

  It wouldn't surprise me. When you have billions to manage and millions streaming in, you don't leave things to chance. These are not men of "faith" at the top of this organization. They have vested interests to protect.

  Meeting with outside consultants wouldn't be that big of a deal whether they were witnesses or not. They would just be getting a professional's take on things and then proceed however they wanted.

  What about taking a vow to donate zero and no more? That way, if they use that "if you break a vow, you are sinning" crap, you simply say that you are not breaking your vow. You simply vowed to not donate anything at all, and if you donate anything, that would be breaking your vow and that would therefore be a sin. - WTWizard

  I like that thought Wizard.

  Putting zero is being honest about what I am willing to commit to.

  I believe everyone should put zero to limit as much as possible how much money gets sent to their billion dollar accounts.

  I do understand the sabotage angle of writing an amount and then not paying it, but I don't like the thought of raising the bar even for a few months sending the branch a larger amount of money until the local account dries up.
