Who knew the pyramid-loving, miracle-wheat-selling, failed prophets of yesteryear would one day grow to be the poorest, dumbest religion in all the land........I'm so proud.

the pew survey i've been reading is quite lengthy, but filled with interesting information.
it really explains a lot of the social issues.
impact of little education, donation issues, the issues of women finding marriage partners.
Who knew the pyramid-loving, miracle-wheat-selling, failed prophets of yesteryear would one day grow to be the poorest, dumbest religion in all the land........I'm so proud.

i know there are many posts discussing the may money requesting televangalism...er... broadcast i mean!
but i wanted to start one where anyone can put what they have heard any non-exjw, non-apostate witnesses say good or bad about the broadcast.
i don't see how it can't rattle followers... but then again i might be surprised how they can twist things (2+2=5).
Sorry driving force..... That sucks. Hopefully reason wins out with her in time.

not sure if my title is correct.
what i noticed is that in say secular bible research documentation, books, lectures etc, one never (or at least i have never read it) reads a quote from one of the former or current wbts leaders nor do i ever see a reference to one of their publication (unless it is article about the jw/wbts itself).. for example, if you read a book on a bible theme or topic written by a scholar or other bible teachers/professors from prof xyz, you will find often in these books a reference to publications / statements / quotes from other scholars or professors.
but never have i seen a reference to say a wt publication or quote / statement from one the leaders of the organisation.. so, despite the million page printed or conferences organised by the wbts, the material apparently is never considered of value to others or to use as reference material.. in my view, that says a lot..... or am i wrong?
giordano and doc made me laugh...
Like any used car salesman in a plaid jacket, the GB have an answer for everything. If they ever were quoted by scholars, they would brag about it from the rooftops:
"Even the 'World' has to acknowledge the WISDOM of the Faithful Slave!"
If they get mocked by scholars, then it's just Satan "blinding the minds of the unbelievers" or some reference to "Man's Wisdom" vs "God's Wisdom".
In their fantasy bubble, its the middle ages and they own the printing press. No reply allowed. Nobody to answer to.

so, as well reported, the latest jw broadcasting show is all about giving money.
as far as the wt society goes they have been pretty candid about there not being enough funds to meet the expenditure.
there are plenty of views on if this is really the case or not but underlying this is why are they spending so much money?.
LOL Outlaw.... good stuff!

after the bombshell that is the may broadcast asking for cold hard cash, i was thinking about the mathematics of the money that they want.
details are very few, but with help from a few people we could build up a decent guess about cashflow.
we know that 6 buildings recently were sold for 375 million dollars, tax free i assume.
They act as if they are letting you see some numbers with no intention of ever letting you see any numbers at all.
Which property are you referring to Lett? How many weeks of operating expenses exactly? How many weeks are a "few"? These are incredibly simple questions to answer since they brought the subject up and all. While we are at it, why don't you throw a graphic up showing how much money was donated during the calendar year of 2014?
There is no need to speculate and turn to the devil's mathematics on this topic. These are deceptive crooks running a game. The sad thing is, they will see a bump in donations at the expense of some well-meaning but gullible people.

They aren't hurting for money. They are just missing donation projections. They want to hit their numbers, like any business, to meet their goals for expansion (read - future luxury accommodations). Numbers are down... so instead of running a promotion or sale or hiring new sales people like other businesses would, they send Lett on the broadcast to talk to the "friends" about their "dedication to Jehovah". Guilt sells in religion land.
Astonishing - if you think it is supposed to be the "Truth" of all the universe backed by the Holy Magic of Jah.
If you see them as just another group of swinging di**s looking for a score, then it's completely predictable.

what does the bible really teach page 110....
why does god allow suffering?.
the wt uses the illustration of a math teacher who is challenged by a student that the math problem can be worked out a different way.
It's even worse when you read it straight from the book:
Let us consider an illustration. Imagine that a teacher is telling his students how to solve a difficult problem. A clever but rebellious student claims that the teacher’s way of solving the problem is wrong. Implying that the teacher is not capable, this rebel insists that he knows a much better way to solve the problem. Some students think that he is right, and they also become rebellious. What should the teacher do? If he throws the rebels out of the class, what will be the effect on the other students? Will they not believe that their fellow student and those who joined him are right? All the other students in the class might lose respect for the teacher, thinking that he is afraid of being proved wrong. But suppose that the teacher allows the rebel to show the class how he would solve the problem.
Prologos may be right. Either they are trying to get rid of critical thinkers or trying to dumb down whoever gets a bible study.
It is an insulting illustration either way.

i am sitting at the recent assembly, bored out of my mind (have you ever heard anyone call these things fun?
) and the next speaker walks out on stage.
he starts off with an illustration.
Yeah sounds like a down-play as you said.
"What we REALLY need to be focused on is SATAN" .... (Not the pedophiles wandering around this assembly)
Same ole brainwashing B.S. Sad they don't put more energy into actually fixing the problem instead of manipulating the "flock" into thinking the problem is smaller than it is.

yes, today is the forum's 15th birthday!.
i never thought for one moment that it would survive this long or have so many people post so many great subjects over the years.. it is still humbling when i get pm's or emails from people expressing how the site has helped them and of course thanks goes to all the posters who have shared their experiences and make helpful and supportive comments to others who are in the sometimes difficult process of learning the real truth about 'the truth'.. the site has gone through several different incarnations over the last 15 years running on different platforms, different databases and different hosts but we've been able to keep all the old topics.
the current site is still being developed and i'm hoping to push another major upgrade soon.. i also may have some other news to share soon about the future of the site so stay posted.. until then, here's the the next 15 years!
Good job Simon and congrats.
I have greatly benefited from the discussions here.

great report by abc on the abuses in jw-dot-org land.... i hope it opens a "floodgate" of future news reports and exposes.
if you ask yourself, "why hasn't the watchtower leadership changed their policy on the 2 witness rule?
if one or more persons on the gb has victims out there that can't come forward because of the 2 witness rule, then that would explain the permanent road block to policy change that is obviously in place.
I think it is obvious that the refusal to change the painfully illogical 2-witness rule for child sexual abuse is for some incredibly selfish reason that leads to further and further abuse of innocent children.
The GB's "indirect" connection to children being abused is undeniable.
When an organization insists on strange, left-field policies that make child molestation easy to get away with, the organization is taking a stand as a pedophile sympathizer and enabler.
The next question is why?...... I am aware of the business reasons often stated. It doesn't take much imagination to think there could be more to the story.
Simon, my apologies for posting anything that causes trouble. I accept full responsibility.
The GB have to accept full responsibility for the consequences of their policies. One of those consequences is "wild" speculation as I have offered the OP.
I admit that the subject is an emotional one when you think of heartless men forcing themselves on innocent children. If these emotions have clouded my judgement, and I have under-appreciated the power of Greed as a lone explanation for these policies, then for that I apologize.
