"the u.s. supreme court turned away an appeal from a new mexico wedding photographer found to have violated a state anti-discrimination law when she refused to take pictures of a commitment ceremony for a same-sex couple.. the photographer, elaine huguenin, argued unsuccessfully that she was being unconstitutionally forced to convey a message conflicting with her religious beliefs.
@viviane:
You need to use another dictionary. Dictionary.com is more of a Wikipedia, not a scholarly dictionary. Oxford, Merriam-Webster, etc. are examples of scholarly dictionaries.
Quoting one union of a same sex couple is cherry picking a rare instance.
The fact is that the term marriage is defined as between man and woman. So, why are same sex couples trying to change the definition.
Actually, answer this question!
Why would same sex partners WANT to use a term that so closely associates their union with thousands of years of same sex union?

@viviane & devanmuvan
I'm just quoting the DICTIONARY.
Regardless of whether polygamy was practiced, it was still between a man and woman.
So, you are trying to change the definition of marriage?
And I ask again, why don't same sex couples just coin their own term?

Can you please provide proof that marriage "meant something besides that"?

The Oxford dictionary says that marriage is
I don't understand why same-sex couples just don't coin a new term for their union. Why do they have to COPY heterosexual's term?

The gay rights bandwagon is a cult in of itself. It pushes its agenda onto others 'personal' lives and businesses. I uninsalled all Mozilla programs from my PC because of the Mozilla CEO resignation from gay marriage pressure. I am proud to be anti-gay marriage. However, I am not against the gay person themselves. I love them as much as I do a straight person. I just don't agree the definition of marriage should be changed.
And I am proud, proud, proud to write this!

the gb must loooove obama-care socialist health-care.
jws can go part time to pioneer and then still get health care coverage, while the successful jws and other non jw successful people foot the tax bill.
god i hate socialism..
Also, I find that people who support socialsm and in particular 'universal health care' do not understand basic economics and 'free market' economics. They think it sounds good, and that is good enough for them. Watch the US end up like Spain (26% unemployment).

Funny, most people I talk to that support Obama care either work for the government in some form or don't make a good living. Never met one that was a sucessful entrepreneur.
