i'm going to my brothers birthday party in september, and the dress code is the 70s.
i'm a bit stuck on where the best place to get hold of 70s clothes, and what sort of things do you recomend?
i fancy wearing a pair of platforms as i'm not too tall, but how easy are they to walk in after a few drinks?

Q.
london ladybirds top sex disease league .
nine in 10 of london's ladybirds suffer from a sexually transmitted disease.
the figure is well above that of the ladybird population outside the uk capital and scientists have been looking for an explanation.
maybe the name "Ladybug" is a bit of a misnomer then?"Slutbug" just doesn't have the same ring though does it?
Well that is just hilarious.

when i first was studying with the duds, one of the things i found interesting is that duds are ok with drinking alcohol, "in moderation".
i never was a big drinker, usually one drink if i'm out and will have to drive and no more than three in any 24 hour period, even if i'm staying home.. i wonder if the fact the "the judge" was a rumpot contributed to the soft attitude on alcohol?
most of the brothers i knew were big drinkers and many of the older elders drank more with dinner that i drink in a weekend.
I developed major drinking problems while I was underage AND in the troof. EVERYONE I know drank--and drank a lot. I had no problem getting older witnesses to serve me, or even buy it for me. (I always had a stash in my closet).
I seriously partied with JW's--and I mean puking your guts out partying...and not just with 'fringe' witnesses. JW's in good standing, or pioneers partied.
I was in the west, though--they are a lot more liberal out there, I guess.
As it is, I have quit drinking. But my favorite was always just a plain old Stoli Martini--bruised, with 3 olives...

.
you know the type... always going on about how their car got possessed by the devil because someone left a pack of cigarettes in it.
or maybe their pots and pans started flying around the house because they bought something from a garage sale.. there are also the types who won't eat skittles because they contain an ingredient made from dried and crushed beetles... which means that they were not properly bled.. and the types who won't let their kids watch cartoons because the animals talk... like satan did with the snake.. then there are they types who are always into the latest get-rich-quick scam... or amway and trying to get everyone in the congregation to buy something.. oh, and don't get me started about the demon possessed smurfs who run around kingdom halls swearing and accosting the women with their teeny-peenies.. what's up with this!?!?
No, I noticed this as well. And I think it is partly because it is acceptable to BE looney in the org.
There were a LOT of nutty people--depressed, strange illnesses that no one has ever heard of, LOTS of low blood sugar, and lots of people who had very strange anti-social behaviors. I think people are drawn to this group because they can be anti-social and still be validated. In fact, they are going to be REWARDED for being strange. I remember being told that 'if worldly people like you, you need to reevaluate what you're doing wrong!".
Oy!
Q.
p.s. Both me and my mother were diagnosed with clinical depression and taking medication while we were in. Funny, now that we're out, neither of us are depressed, and neither of us take any medication. Its like...MAGIC! heh.
what do you think??
?
I was explaining to a friend of mine the other day what JW's believe. She asked me, knowing that I grew up as one--so I tried to give her an 'overview'. I got to the part about heaven--and said that JW's believe only a few people actually go to heaven while the rest stay on earth. I explained that those few people had the job of helping God govern the earth.
She looked at me reproachfully and said, "But God doesn't need help governing the earth".
Heh.
ADQ
as i was growing up in the troof.
there were sayings used over and over again to control my behaviour.
the biblical on bad associations spoil useful habits and another on just because everyone else does it doesnt mean you have to do it to, would you jump off a cliff just because other people do what were the sayings that bugged you?
"Come and take life's water free..."
"FREE" MY ASS!!!
what do you think??
?
What about the act of putting in a field service report? Counting every minute given to Jehovah, making sure that you know the difference between a return visit and a Bible study, making sure you follow the dictates of the "slave" by turning in the reports no later than the 6th, and that includes your Bible Study report. JW's teach that we HAVE to turn in a report. Where does it say that in the Bible???
This SLAYS me! I mean, seriously, the ENTIRE STRUCTURE OF THE ORGANIZATION--the printing of tons of literature (aka, stuff we need to HELP US READ THE BIBLE), five sales meetings a week, a 'school' to make people learn how to talk in front of large groups, counting time and submitting reports, counting literature placements, and submitting reports--ALL OF IT--IS A COMPLETE FABRICATION WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SCRIPTURAL BASIS.
GACK! IT IS 8:30 AM AND I AM ONLY ON MY FIRST CUP OF COFFEE AND THIS THREAD HAS ALREADY GOT ME FIRED UP!!!!!!
Q.
sure there are some of us who have been "out" for years and others that are only out by their mindset but due to many reasons still have to save face.. in what ways do you still feel the hold of the wt in you?
do you still pick out your music/movies carefully?
does nudity and/or language still offend you to a deafening degree?
And I can’t ‘join’ any group. I mean any group.
I have this same problem--although not because I feel like an 'outsider' per se--but just because I feel disdain for any 'group hype'. ANYTHING--we're talking committees, teams, whatever. I am definitely scarred for life in this department, and I need to work HARD to overcome this, because I know (logically) that I need to be able to function in groups--because great things are accomplished by some groups--I still really shy away from it.
In fact, I have another religion now, but I never attend any 'services', and most of my volunteer efforts in regard to my religion are done on an individual basis...
I am judgmental. I am terribly, terribly judgmental. And the scary thing is, I used to me MORE judgmental!
Lisa, you say so MANY things that I relate to. It is amazing to be able to watch yourself from the 'outside' and be shocked at your own behavior. I, too, am still so judgemental--I really dislike this quality in myself, but I hypocritically HATE it in other people. *sigh*
They say admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, right?
Still, aside from these personal challenges--nothing else bothers me--not taking blood, not rated R movies, nothing--I don't have any constraints on the way I live, except the ones I've chosen to put there myself.
Q.
like my mother before me, im a martyr.
i am almost unable to make a choice based on what is best for me.
and of course this has over time made me a depressed, bitter person who, much to my horror, explodes with rage from time to time.
My life was not based on the theology of the JWs, but it sure was based on the psychology of the JWs!
Boy, you hit the nail on the head with that statement! I couldn't figure out for years why I was still so unhappy and miserable, even AFTER I left the borg. Now I know, and it has taken me a long time to get myself straight. I still work at it every day.
I was (and to some extent still am) a big martyr. It's pathetic. I've been known to INVENT problems just so that I can martyr myself. I'm just so happy to be free and to see clearly, now. I consider myself lucky to have made these discoveries and changes so early in my life. I'm only 29 and I have a lot of quality living to do, now!
