Living forever would be pretty cool, but if I had to sacrifice TV, drugs, political/religous discussions, Elton John, friends (not the tv show), freewill, oral sex, Stevie Wonder, Rock and metal....etc, then I think I would be better off dead. One of the main reasons I stopped Dubbing was because I decided I'd rather die than share eternity with those idiots. Urghhh can you imagine it!!

Paradise vs. Living Forever
by Water ini wonder; if the typical jw was given a choice between living 100 years in paradise or living forever in a society such as we have today, what would they choose?
what is the real draw, immortality or perfection?.

saintsatan,
you mentioned that rockandroll matured in the seventies, and peaked in the eighties. What exactly was that "peak"?

New light question
by yxl1 ini was discussing with my motherinlaw last weekend the change in the 1995 "generation" doctrine, and got the usual response that it was a new light.
what started out as a little bit of fun during a long car journey actually turning into something quite sad and disturbing.
i argued that old light was obviously wrong (by their own definition), and therefore, by her reasoning she has been preaching lies.

thanks BeelzeDub and neon, I'll give the Proverbs chapter a good read when I leave work. It would be nice to sit down with my M-i-L and show her scriptual reasoning that the "new light" has nothing to do with recieving amendments on current teaching. I know she wont listen, and I know she'll spout some other verse to "prove" that I'm wrong. What I really want is for her husband, a long standing elder, to sit down and have a discussion with me. Not much chance of that, seeing as he has been refusing to speak to me since my wedding!! (even though I'm not df'ed)

I was discussing with my motherinlaw last weekend the change in the 1995 "Generation" doctrine, and got the usual response that it was a new light. What started out as a little bit of fun during a long car journey actually turning into something quite sad and disturbing. I argued that old light was obviously wrong (by their own definition), and therefore, by her reasoning she has been preaching lies. Then came the shocker. I was expecting the Light getting brighter bollox, but she went on and on repeating the word "New light" and "getting brighter" over and over again. My wife who was sat in the back of the car found it amusing initially, but then I noticed a concerned look in her eyes. After about 5 minutes of my M-I-L repeating the same sentence, I quickly changed the subject to something non-jw related and everything went back to normal.
So, is there any information on the scripture(s) that contains the phrase "New light" with an explaination of what it really is about. A URL or a book title will do. I know that the Dubs use this phrase as a kind of "get out of jail free" card, and would love to know what the scripture really means.
Thanks in advance

Sick of it
by Tron ini am not a jw, i am 100% free to choose born and raised.
well let me get to my story, i have no problem with jw, my wife who i love with all my heart is though.
she was raised in it and didnt have much choice due to a dominating mother in the truth, and at 16 got baptized by pressure, we have 3 young children who attend meetings but i made it very clear that they will choose there own way, i dont worry because she is a believer but still has her own mind.

Tron,
Your comment " Plain old NASTY woman except at meetings (Elders Wife)" shows what type of people Jehovahs witnesses can be. It can be an amazing sight to see a brother or sister act at being so "Spritually strong" while in the company of other JW's, but alone is more nasty and hurtfull than anyone you're likely to meet outside the "truth". I'm just saddened that your kids are still going. Hopefully, one day they'll see the real truth

Whenever my father-in-law wanted to round up his 8 kids, he would put two fingers in his mouth and whistle as loud as he could and the kids would come running (OR ELSE!!! ) Once, when on the service the CO was talking to my (future) F-I-L, I whistled real loud and all 8 of his kids came running asking what he wanted. He had to explain to the CO that it was his method of rounding up the kids and that someone was playing a prank (he knew it was me...!!) . The CO took him to one side and had a short word with him. He never did it again....

"When your nose turns a very DEEP shade of brown. " And thats absolutely right! I was dissed just after meeting the girl of my dreams (An Elders Daughter) So I decided to get back into the borg in order to get her out (I know...stupid..but it worked) I simply attended every meeting (except bookstudies) and after 6 months (I was told you had to wait 6 months) I wrote to the Elders requesting reinstatment. They asked me if I was repentant, and I answered "yes". Even though I was dissed for not doing anything wrong, ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/54009/781203/post.ashx#781203)I knew this would not be the time to bring it up. After two or three weeks I was reinstated. I married the Elders daughter and we both left the dubs....

Were You Ever A Bible Student???
by minimus indid you consider yourself a real student of the bible, one who regularly read the scriptures, with a view to helping others learn the "truth" of god's word?
-
yxl1
Nope. I believed in what the WTS taught but I still only studied the bare minium and did as few hours of service that was allowed. I spent most of my teens waiting to die at Armaggedon.
